African Jazz was the name of the band - the most influentian in african popular music. Jazz was used in (congo) lingala slang of the era in lots of different ways - It could mean good and among other things I am told it meant marihuana... anyway you are right neither African JAZZ or the other big band of the era OK JAZZ ever played Jazz.
I don't know what to make of this song! It's joyful and according to AboubacarSiddikh who's usualy well informed, this isn't about Modibo's funeral, and yet Kalé is saying the word "Matanga" several times. Matanga means funeral in Lingala, indeed! Unfortunately Im unable to hear clearly most of the lyrics. Fantastic tune, though!
There is a song about Lumumba's demise . Was it by any chance sung by Kale´ .Refrain in Swahili: Lumumba ya mama....ya baba.... Is it possible to post it?
Lol no wonder were salsa came from this is exactly on beat to dance to hahaha..

Anything to do with mourning Modibo or Modibo's Funeral ?
tyty1794 3 years ago
No, I don't think that is very likely, considering the fact that Modibo died 13 years after the song was made. See the link in the info box, please.
