I cant stand all these people crying about scrapping this or anything. When it was for sale on the side of the road for a couple hundred bucks nobody wants it but when they scrap it all of the sudden the hood is worth $800 the seats go for $300 each and the rear end would have got $5000. If you put enough money into it EVERY VEHICLE THAT GETS SCRAPPED CAN BE FIXED. Stop crying its is now part of the can of beer you are sobbing over. Those who object to scrapping old vehicles should buy them, preserve them, store them, restore them and then after 20 years give them away for a few dollars to some "collector" or part them out. Put up or stop your whining. This vehicle is over 30 year old, it has paid for itself many times over, probably 300,000 plus miles on it.

What a wast! It buggs the f*ckin' Hell out of me when things are destroid jutst because no one wants to save and remeber history. I do agree with those of you so think politics and the governments money has some thing to do iwith this kind of stupidity! If the bus has to get wrecked then give it to fire departments and let them train on them for extercation and or fire fighting training. Buses do get in accidents and do catch fire. Does anyone know of a good place to find info on old Carpenter rear engine buses? I grew up with them and even a couple of these style gilligs in our fleet. The gilligs had a much more solid feel than the carpenters and it's disgusting to see this happen to such a good bus...

I'm sad and sick to my stomach at the same time. That exact bus was the one that I drove for that district for many years--it ran great and was a lot more reliable, nimble and fun to drive than the newer computerized buses which seem to break down a lot! I wonder how the enviro-whack jobs that required this destruction would like to see one of their beloved old Subarus destroyed like this when they were still running well! It's not the federal government who wants them gone, it's not even California government. It's environmental activists by way of California's Air Resources Board that does. And as the owner of the largest Gillig-related museum, this is pretty damning evidence of California's stupidity by letting environmental whackjobs running state government.
