Like a lot of other words, the word "theory" has multiple meanings, just like bat, bowl, row, etc. In colloquial use, a "theory" is a guess. When used in science, a "theory" explains a set of facts. And in science, a guess is called a "hypothesis."
lol, I don't really understand why you use "German" as a synonym for "atheist" or why you think that every German is an atheist... I think even the Germans believe in something (what ever it is) and some of them even go to church! Unbelievable, isn't it? =P

It is supported by genetics, embryology, anatomy, biochemistry, biogeography, and the fossil record. It has millions of tests in the lab and in the field, and has been observed directly. and by the way.. there IS a theoreticle way to proof almost everything.. especially evolution.. time travel... yeah yeah I know what you think BUT, just in theory (lol) think about it.. if we had one that could take us to any time we want to go, we could prove or disprove it.. prove that jesus never existed or did existed (I bet hardcore believers would argue the disprove of jesus doesn't could cuz god knew what evil science wants to do and deleted jesus for them so they can't disprove it)
I never heard someone argueing that "it'S only a theory, therefore it doenst have to be true" and I guess i could be glad about that. Genereal freedom of speech is a good thing, but it's terrible if you have to argue with someone, that has a safisticated opinion on something, where only "I heard" stuff is, rather than research and actual state of the art scientific conclusions. the other problem is, you can't argue with believers.. it's just impossible
