Sorry about my postings directed to KMHwhatever, it just totally frustrates me when someone is so ignorant and rude they feel it necessary to post such disgusting things about a truly great person.
I truly hope he feels total shame and self disgust for acting in such a immature and ignorant fashion.

There are too many websites that are free, rather than dealing with short clips from this person who is trying to rape the normally poor woodworker selling his products.
I think you would rephrase this comment if you thought about it - Rob is a pro who makes his living at woodworking and sharing his vast knowledge - his dvd's are excellent teaching tools and no one is forced to buy them - HIs trailers are a business tool that many people use - he is not raping any poor woodworkers. You have a valid point about the free websites - I use them too as often as I may. But the comment about Rob raping poor woodworkers - unnecessary and unfounded.
@kmh196700 So if you've ever bought a woodworking book, magazine or dvd you've been raped. Being new to woodworking I'm always looking for info and have found more in Rob's stuff than most others.
Yes, you may have been raped. Now, how many of his dvd's have you purchased? Or, have you milked this cow online gleaning what freebies you can? You need to mind your own business b4 somebody shuts your mouth.
Democrat freeloader??? You're ignorance keeps showing more and more as you continue to type. You sir, are the one claiming to be a freeloader and complaining that someone is trying to make a living off his own hard work, calling him a "rapist" for wanting money for his products rather than giving them away, as you evidently wish him to.
Hypocrites like you should really keep your mouths shut. And before you threaten to shut anyone elses, shut your own, or I can oblige you in that.
@kmh196700 I have 3 books written by Rob and 6 DVD's, as well as his dowel drilling jig for wooden hinges, and if anything, I feel as though I got a really good deal considering the return on investment.
Book: $30
DVD: $30
Information gained from watching said DVD and reading said book: PRICELESS!!!
And where the hell do you get that woodworker's are poor? Stop stereotyping people, you moron.
Just an FYI, I am FAR from poor and I am a woodworker.
You may have been raped by your father or another close family member or friend, as that would completely explain you're mental issues and most of your ignorant blabbering that you so rudely have posted on a public forum.
You are obviously inferior and a much lesser being, or you would have the confidence in yourself not to feel it necessary to speak so badly about someone you have never met, having nothing to judge them on other than your own ignorant and inaccurate conclusion.
@kmh196700 Yeah, I guess after paying for school, spending years in apprenticeships, putting in years of practice developing incredible skill, spending money to develop tools, publish books and film videos, he should just put everything on the net for free so everyone can benefit from all his dedication and hard work and he can just find some other way to support his wife and seven children other than the career he has worked so hard to build. Makes perfect sense! Friggin IDIOT!!!
i just spent £600.00 on a leigh m&t jig so that i could kiss goodbuy to the labourius task of chippin and sawing for days on end for a joint that is essentially hidden. i hope i never see my tennon saw again.......... as for the dude who says no glue to a m&t then i pity the people who by anything made by him.
He said there isn't much glue in a M&T joint, not that he doesn't put glue in his.
That aside, I agree that cutting these by hand is pretty slow. I suppose that if I was a proffessional and did them all the time I'd get a lot faster. I think machining them is the way to go if you have more than a couple.
yeah sorry woodlist just re read the post! wasn't specific enough, meant that you dont have to use glue if you peg, draw bore or star nail the joint. :-)
well, it maybe won´t take much time, but once you hit the wood with a router, you´re almost done!the point is - we have these machines, so we should use them.
We should use whatever tools we like. Period. Fact is, you learn to use hand tools, it gives you some understanding about wood and how it behaves. Useful for when you want to move to a machine..
Your clip was interesting but you asked and never answered the question "Why handcut?" What are the benefits? Also, it would have been nice if you had not skipped right over the part where you cut the tenons for the wedges and created the wedges themselves. You only showed us driving them in. How come?
It is best to learn all your joinery using hand methods even if you think that you will hardly ever use them. It is kind of like having the basic foundation that gives you the 'feel' for the work. Also, you could well end up in a situation where you don't have convenient access to a functioning morticer or router.

you shouldn't have to use glue with an m+t it's strong enough.

Bullpoo!
You either glue, peg or draw-bore a Mortise and tenon. You can't just leave it, unless you're merely gonna look at your woodwork!

thats simple.
say you went to work abroad say in africa where there is no electricity?
you will not be able to use any power tools whatsoever.
so its best to learn by hand.
