I came on here for football reasons, but debate about war is overhsadowing the fact two old foes were able to put differences aside and become firm friends during gary's short stay. Alot of countries have done shameful things in the past, as hombrerelents said about Argentina harbouring Nazi war criminals. But then look at what we, The British, did in Ireland in the late 19th and early 20th century, no nation is without its regrets, being British im ashamed of the things we did in Ireland.

I came on here for football reasons, but debate about war is overhsadowing the fact two old foes were able to put differences aside and become firm friends during gary's short stay. The Islands Are Vital the same way Irak is Vital for the Americans... Because of the Oil and the strategic point to comercialize or even War... @leiojpc Without natural resources, I do not think anyone would have such interest in the Falklands now. sleepycriminal holds a view that would be considered too emotive and lacking in any rational substance for the majority in the UK. Britain defeated the Argentinian army conclusively, but by using the expression "raped" he shames the British Forces more than the Argentinians. It is strange, I only came on this clip for football reasons. What a non-sense it has been taken over by war.

Men died on both sides. If you make points like this, you actually insult your own nationality. If any Argentinian users read this, most British users would be ashamed of comments like this.

There is primary and secondary historical evidence supporting a conclusion that the British Armed Forces defeated an inferior Argentinian contingent. It was an utterly conclusive victory. That is something that any historian could assess or discuss the reasons why.
I say again, why do you feel validated with the word "rape"?

@leiojpc We are in dialogue with a sensitive individual. A lot of anger over something he was not even alive to experience. There must be some reason sleepycriminal is touchy about this? Maybe he thinks he is being patriotic by bigging up the British. I will agree with anyone who said that the British defeated the Argentinian army conclusively because this is a historically accurate statement. I'm saddened that sleepycriminal needs to use the term "raped" when referring to the British Army

It is coming up to the 25th anniversary of that "Hand of God" game. Everybody knows that Maradona wasn't Mother Teresa and the scandals with drugs, the goal with his hand against England in the world cup etc, etc, impossible to ignore it. There are two groups of people: The ones who respect him as a footballer because he brought with his genious renewed excitement to the game placing football in another level, and the ones who are interested in his antics, namely his " big" mistakes, his personal life, or even his nationality. Argentina tiene muy buenos jugadores y entrenadores. Con un plantel muy bueno fueron humillados en el 2010 y pagan asi por haber elegido un enano sin conocimientos de direccion tecnica para dirigir a su pais. Con cualquier otro entrenador, hubiesen ganado la copa.....

i respect lineker for saying that, players have always cheated in football and it is the referee's job to stop them. i know maradonna cheated, and it was horrible for england, but i reckon if it had been the other way round, and lineker had handballed, and we had gone and won our second world cup as a result, we would forgive him for it. that said i don't get the people who celebrate the hand of god as if it is a good thing, especially when maradonna did so many greater things with his feet!!

I can't believe the people talking crap about Maradona. He was/is a genius. Look at what he has acomplished. And yes he had his down sides. Lets start with the drugs... If you were a striker and hand balled the ball and scored, you would instantly look at the ref and expect the free kick to be given... In this case the ref didn't give it - Therefore his fault.
I myself have scored a goal with my hand and I expect it not to be counted. I didn't do it to get a cheeky goal, I just did it because I thought 'Eh, what they heck, might aswell hand ball it because it's going out for a goal kick anyway'

Good post, man. Maradona was a phenomenal talent and any body would says otherwise is delusional or in denial or both. If a person can't be objective and separate the man from the player, then that person has instantly excluded himself from the conversation IMO.
