I love simple and cool little projects like that. I did want to mention that the dust from cutting acrylic is harmful, and the fumes from burning it are toxic. Anyone attempting this should wear a particle mask for cutting, and a respirator for cooking it. You won't keel over on the spot if you don't, but it adds up.
@zeusvalentine I've done some Vacuum forming. It works well when you want a smooth shape with both concave and convex areas. For these lenses this method works great and give it a real organic feel.

you say you can heat these things with a propane torch too? I have only ever burned my plexi that way - what is your secret? indirect heat?
