Dunno why you have a chip on your shoulder about reserve forces, they play an important role within the armed forces and are trained to very similar if not same high level as the full timers. If it wasn't for 'Saturday Cowboys' as you so eloquently put it the forces would grind to a halt, they offer skills that are beneficial as they can bring knowledge from out side careers too.
