@Chrisayhai Actually they're basically the same, in the same way Rasengan and Rasenshuriken are the same. One is a giant burst of lightning chakra which takes many years to learn and master due to power, speed and control needed. Making the user lethal in combat...and the other is Chidori =P

*sigh* I know explaining this is useless, because everyone will believe what they want, but the difference between Raikiri and Chidori isn't more or less focus, or a choice of naming, or any of the other asinine comments I've read. Chidori isn't even lightning. It's raw chakra. That's clearly stated in both manga and anime. It is chakra with no elemental nature, and simply the 'shape' of electricity, just as Rasengan has no element. Raikiri has lightning natured chakra. There is the difference.

@MarkusCaine nope chidori is only nature manipulation while raikiri is both nature manipulation and shape manipulation making (the last in a lesser degree then with rasenshuriken) it stronger but what people don't understand is that something like that can change as sasuke improved chidori a lot, they used to be one and the same but they evolved in different directions making them different techniques after some time.

@raintixon Sasuke didn't give it a different name. When Kakashi first uses it in Gaiden, he quite clearly states chidori. The Raikiri is the more perfected version. The raikiri requires more chakra focus, hence why it looks like a blue ball of lightning.

Gai identified it as chidori at the cunin exams, ruling out the possibility od Sasuke inventing the name. the raikiri is the S-ranked version while chidori is A-ranked. furthermore, the jutsu look and sound different. the chidori chirps and the raikiri crackles, and the chidori is mostly white in its regular form while the raikir is blue

@SnoopySami Actually techinally Rakiri is stronger than Chidori. Due to the fact the Rakiri is mostly based on Lightning affinity. While Chidori is more relied on chakra mixed with the lightning affinity. Remember that Gai also said that kakashi once cut a lightning bolt in half with his rakiri.

@TheMrkingofbosna Dude... The Raikiri is an improvement of the Chidori so it can t be worse. Raikiri = Chidori with Sharingan eyes, so you can react faster to the opponents movement... The Chidori is the jutsu Kakashi just developed in the Kakashi Chronicles and that's also the jutsu Minato (The 4th Hokage) thought of it as incomplete... Kakashi completed it when he got Obito's Sharingan. So you can't be right ;p

@PeppleDude123456 They are SIMILAR, but not the same. Raikiri is the S-RANKED version of Chidori. Raikiri appears to have 1) greater mobility and use [doesn't need to run along the ground] and 2) is a bit quieter. Chidori makes a loud chirping sound. Raikiri makes a static sound... like electricity. Also, the chakra in Raikiri appears to be more focused.

@FilipinoDudeNZ Actually Raikiri is better then Chidori. It is labeled an S rank jutsu in the naruto jutsu handbook, while chidori is just an A rank. Kakashi taught chidori to Sasuke but not Rakiri. Also Chidori means 1000 birds in english. The jutsu makes that sound when it makes an impact. Raikiri doesnt make the 1000 birds sound.
