Maybe we should get rid of Medicare and the VA. Those are government run healthcare programs that benefit seniors and veterans. Everybody keeps calling it socialized medicine which basically means healthcare for all, I don't see how that's a bad thing. I do want the government to step in when Pharmaceutical companies are raping us, when people who can't pay for treatment, for whatever reason, and are kicked out of hospitals. I want my government to step in.

Why not buy people private insurance with stimulous money? Because health care has nothing to do with it. Between Medicare and Medicaid, the government is already 50% of health care. The post office delivers the mail, it is true, but it is going bankrupt,as well as SS. This is a policy that can not work unless cuts in service are made... and who suffers? The people. And do not say that I can keep my current insurer.
No, I accept that we have already begun the practice of rationed services, and that cuts have been made. Does this negate the fact that these practices are wrong? No. We can not justify any more radical steps toward socialism based on president or the status quo.

Regulating health insurance is what is needed. It's operating unconstrained; prices are outrageous and so is the discrimination between who qualifies for it and who doesn't.
The government needs to set the bar, otherwise private insurance will continue to exploit the sick and needy.

I'm an American living abroad. The country I'm living and working in has government healthcare. People pay for it though. People pay monthly or yearly and the cost is based on their salary. I pay about $400 a month.
I can go to any local clinic, hospital, dentist, whatever.
My employer pays nothing for me.
It's a useful system, but I don't consider it a government handout at all.

Maybe we should get rid of Medicare and the VA. Those are government run healthcare programs that benefit seniors and veterans. In every situation that a national health care system is utilized, it loses money for the government. This will not be different in the U.S.'s situation, no matter what obama says. It's simple economics.
If something HAS to be done about it now, i would rather it be a subtle change than a huge, extremely risky one.

The post office delivers the mail, it is true, but it is going bankrupt,as well as SS. At the time of service in the ER, they can dip into your bank account even if you don't want them to. Why don't they just leave what works alone, and fix what doesn't? Regulating health insurance is what is needed. It's operating unconstrained; prices are outrageous and so is the discrimination between who qualifies for it and who doesn't.
The government needs to set the bar, otherwise private insurance will continue to exploit the sick and needy.

There is so many things that can be done to lower the cost of health care and the gov. taking over is not one of them!

The government needs to tell insurance agencies what they can and cannot do, otherwise like an unchallenged predator in an ecosystem, they will grow out of control -- like they have begun to. The government is there to provide for the people when others refuse.

I'm an American living abroad. The country I'm living and working in has government healthcare. People pay for it though. People pay monthly or yearly and the cost is based on their salary. I pay about $400 a month.
I can go to any local clinic, hospital, dentist, whatever.
My employer pays nothing for me.
It's a useful system, but I don't consider it a government handout at all.
