  • Awesome video bro. Thanks for posting up, and very humerous aswell. I've got standard exhausts on my Bird. Guess what, yep i'm on my way out to get some drills. Thanks and ride safely.

  • that was fucking nice

    and i agree with you

    honda should making more superblackbird

  • Awesome video! The world NEEDS people like you! I've just bought my first 'Bird, but I'm not brave enough to take a drill to it. Kudos ;-)

  • 9 16ths sounds just right

  • You can see the progression and eventual change of your rear tire in this video. Almost as cool as the exhaust change! It Sounds very nice and surprisingly clean. Good job.

  • very nice ! 10 +

  • Thanks! It was a fun experiment that ended up well I think. If anyone does this, make sure you buy a set of cheap OE cans on eBay or something in case the end result is not what you expected. Or better yet, drill out the cheap (possibly damaged/blemished?) OE cans from eBay first and leave your clean ones alone.

  • Killer man. one question though, Did that year come with a narrower rear tire? Cause my 2000 XX came with a 180 rear. yours looks like about a 150/160.

  • Nope. It's the OE 180 size.

  • @tgcoker What bags do you have on your 1100xx

  • @tgcoker

    Nice sound. Good job done.

  • Love it, pity it would fail an MOT over here but ace video anyway. I must admit i had to look through gaps in my fingers when you first took a drill to your girl ;0) but the end result was ace

  • LOL ...wonder if this would work on my CBR 600 and if there are any "secondary effects"

  • yes and yes... you will likely want to re-jet your carbs and have them synced... generally, more flow OUT means more flow IN so you would want to increase your jets by at least 1 size depending on how much you drill out. otherwise you'll burn holes in your pistons because less fuel and more air means a hot burn that doesn't spread over the entire piston surface and therefore cannot dissipate heat properly across the entire piston.

  • Thanks for the info. Ride safe !

  • oh gawd this is funny i had to watch it again! you funny basterd what do you do for work?? chris boston mass.

  • ha funny shit i love it! but why did you call the bike hers as in drilled hers brains out? plural form?? porque? was it for humor? hey, dude i got a 3'' hole saw i can send for free!! LOL good humor good stuff!

  • Lol, awsome kicking video man, love it. Definitely I'm gonna do the same to mine.

    Safe riding

  • Thats good video I like it very much and you got a point in the end cool

  • That was good video , Funny to0... hahaha.. Nice points you made in the end. Great Vid!!!

    thanks!!

  • you like it?

    drilling the rear side? ^^

  • I LOVE IT !!!! I did that to a 1981 CBX and it was great!!!

  • I found a 32mm bit and did the same to my 1999 bird. Sound good for the cost!!

    Thanks for the tip.

  • Since I drilled the "decoration" holes first, I never got to see if only drilling the 32mm made a better sound. I can imagine it's deep and fairly mellow without the high and mid tone cutting in. Yes?

  • I started with the 32mm but it wasn't loud enough so I did the decoration holes as well. Sound a bit 'off' at idle, but great once the engine is under load.

  • gret stuff!

  • dude you like the sound SO so much that you took off those awesome, kickin HARDLUGGAGE off the back of the bike... why? i think those molded ones makethe bikes look like rockets, rocket ships an such

  • i have one and you are giving me crazy bad ideas.. mines mint... just learned to wheelie

    ... your vidio ... awsome....if i look i might find $20

  • Mate,

great video. haha Typical biker gr8 personality.

  • tg, my Bird is standing outside, willing to get louder to be more noticeable.

I'm only thinking of drilling the center holes.

Have you noticed any downside since drilling them? I've no spare pipes if I mess it up :)

Do you actually enjoy the sound yourself?

Can the sound be compared to any slip-on's?

Are they simply louder or the sound get's more rumbly too?

    Hope I'm ain't asking too much :)

Best luck and thank you for your video!!!

  • Definitely drill down the center first. No downside other than the occasional smug remark about being a cheapskate for not spending $800. I can't do a direct comparison to slip-ons as I haven't been to any XX rider meets to contrast/compare. I have a set of TwoBrothers on now (got them C H E A P on eBay). The drilled OE pipes, with all holes drilled, is more raucous and rowdy sounding. Doing only the center would be my first step if I were to do it all over again.

  • what forum are you a member of if you dont mind me asking? thanks

  • Commuter Bike? Sports Tourer 0-90 quicker than R1

  • :) yup, very very fast commuter bike... It gets much better mileage than my Z71. Although I really miss the A/C in the summer.

  • Excellent vid, I liked both sounds before and after you went in for the kill with the 32mm.

It'll probably sound better in person not through the mic of a camcorder and when the bikes warmed up.

Good job, thumbs up from me.

  • nice way of getting good sound

but I wanna ask you something

if I try this, I wanna get the sound at time3:20 (thinking to perform last stage before punch driller 32mm)

have you drilled inner pipes also with 9/16 or only decoration holes??

  • nice vid. much cheaper than getting aftermarket pipes. But no way to those sound that good to me....nothing compared to my Scorpions. Plus the stock pipes weigh a ton. But if you want a bit more sound for cheap then it's not a bad option.

I'd spend the $550 on my Scorpions again in a heartbeat.

  • thanks gonna try this om my old pipes

  • sorry how deep doyou drill with the 32mm??

  • You will feel it bottom out once in about 12 inches maybe- that's the first baffle. After you go through that, there will be a second about 1 inch after. Drill through it and pull out. Ta-daa!

  • i think it sounds smooth and nice before drilling, but its only video.

  • The OE pipes are smooth and nice (which is why I have a untouched set sitting in my attic - just in case). Drilled out they are raucous and loud (louder than TwoBrothers!) If I were to do it all over again, I would drill down the center FIRST then consider the outside holes...

  • I Loll'd at this! It's a pretty good way of getting the sound but keeping the looks stock. Any problem with fuelling on the bike since you drilled the holes? - You're bike's FI right?

  • Thanks! Correct - F.I. No problems that I've noticed. But I never had the O2 measured before or after drilling. It was running rich before (assumption) as I and a few coworkers noticed a gas smell from the exhaust. Can't really smell it now. *Maybe* it leaned out a bit.

  • It's not something i would do, but it doesn't sound to bad at all. I love your humor.

  • Not at all your just cheap

  • Tight Cunt go out and get a decent quality set ofPerformance cans

  • "Performance cans" will bring me maybe 2-5HP and lose 15-20 pounds off the weight. The bike is heavy, I am definitely heavy, so the benefit of lighter cans is negligible. I can go on a diet and get better results. The small increase in horsepower is also a insignificant percentage gain for a commuter bike that brings me to and from work every day, makes quick trips to the grocery store, and takes me on casual Saturday rides every so often. I have more sense than money I guess.

  • sounds unreal for a home job. good on ya mate. Maybe will do the same for my 2007 blackbird and save the cash..
