  • Short sleeves to short sleeves in three generations. What a fantastic job we have done in squandering our wealth...

  • 2 folks are fascists.

  • Long Live the worker struggle!

  • Anybody thinking about "Talking world war III blues"?

  • @lklkljlk of course! he was such a huge influence on Dylan.

  • Woody Guthrie was an amazing musician and man - love his politics and music

  • Bob Dylan's father

  • I wonder were Bob Dylan got the idea for "Bear Mountain Picnic"

  • @thors12345 READ BOB DYLAN "CHRONICLES" IF YOU DON'T KNOW, DYLAN MOVED TO NEW YORK CITY SO HE COULD MEET GUTHRIE....WHO WAS DYING IN A SANITARIUM.....HE HAD NEVER MET HIM.....GUTHRIE HAD NEVER EVEN HEARD HIS NAME.... DYLAN DID VISIT HIM.........THEY BECAME FRIENDS..........................LIKE YOU AND I....

  • @bluegrass570 I just started reading "Chronicles" this morning. Reading it is like listening to an old friend talking. I was on the back porch smoking, with the Sunday morning rain beating down, and was so engrossed that I was on page 89 before I even realised I'd had my feet sticking out of the porch, enough to get soaked.

That's the kind of read it is and although not a massive Dylan fan, I do appreciate who and what he is, as I do Woody. :-)

  • @thors12345 I think peter yarrow or paul stookey

  • BUT IN A FIDDLE & THE ELECTRIC STEEL-GUITAR, IN THEM THAR THAT

BACKGROUND THAR & AMAZING, OUT POPS GOOD OLE HANK WILLIAMS !

  • there is great music today, but man there is nothing more authentic then folk song by woody.

  • When was this produced?

  • like now.

  • An uncle I never knew introduced me to Woody. He paralized and died before I was born but his recording of Woody's dustbowel ballads got me and I love him from then to now.

  • OUT OF DUST NOVEL

    cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170623571650&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1156

  • Ya think Jerry Reed listened to this a few times? ;)

  • sorry for the stupid question, but what is a facist?

  • @jennolund

     you JOking.....???

  • @jennolund fascism is a totalitarian ideology that calls for one group of people to rule all others; they are opposed to democracy, liberalism, and Marxism. they believe in the power of will, a singular collective identity, and militarism to create an ideal man. italy was the first to implement it - ever heard of Mussolini? but a classic example would be the Third Reich and Hitler's Germany. people who are strongly to the right are sometimes called fascists. woody guthrie was more of a communist

  • @inkblackRose i liked your comment, it's a good explanation of of fascism, but i take exception to your characterization of Woody as a communist. Just because he spoke for poor ppl, working ppl, labor unions, migrant workers....the poor and oppressed. He was never actually in the communist party or ever claimed to be a commie as far as i know. in my book he is was a great artist and a genuine American hero, forget the politics, it was more about principle for him.

  • @strummersbrother Agree with you, but it was also more about principle for other people, like Che... the only difference is that Woody used his guitar to send the message (and only in his country, USA) while Che used everything he had, including his own life, and shared his message with all of Latin America, Africa, Asia, USA and the world, before he was killed for it... The similarities are huge (sharing same ideals/principles). The differences is that Che decided to stand up and take action

  • @z3nb3b . it's true they were both revolutionaries in their own ways, both sided with the underdog against powers that be, both became folk hero's......But could Che write songs and play guitar and make music like Woody? i doubt it.

  • @z3nb3b Yea like rifles and torture and failed revolution

  • @domcplnc "rifles and torture and failed revolution"

As if the U.S. never uses weapons to force its economic program on the remainder of the world.

As if the U.S. doesn't torture.

As if capitalism isn't a constant revolutionary force . . . for the wealthy, who are, basically, the people for whom YOU stand up.

Woody Guthrie was a rank leftist who hung out with communists.

The Pledge of Allegiance was written by socialist Francis Bellamy.

    Remember those, you worthless fascist.

    Kill you later!

  • You can totally hear how Dylan used this singing style (and even the way he stresses certain words) in the song "Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues".

    Guthrie is so awesome.

  • @DannyCarmeli personally, i heard it more in "Talking World War III Blues"

  • @inkblackRose me too, really similar melody, great stuff

  • There's just something about it. It's so funny to sing.

  • HEIL SS!!!!!

  • They just don't make them like that any more...sorry bill Bragg

  • dylan's "talkin' bear mountain picnic massacre blues" sounds JUST like this

  • @beatlemaniac1966

i was thinking talkin wwIII blues sounds like this too.

no surprise though, guthrie was dylan's biggest influence

  • Great video. Great talking blues delivery. I'm going through a Woody Guthrie phase right now: reading "Bound For Glory" and soon to watch the documentary "Woody Guthrie: This Machine Kills Fascists."

  • Great video. Great talking blues delivery. I'm going through a Woody Guthrie phase right now: reading "Bound For Glory" and soon to watch the documentary "Woody Guthrie: This Machine Kills Fascists."

  • My grandfather used to play this record before telling some cool stories.

  • Yes. And many others

  • gas-eileen...lol

  • Truth!

  • I knew this reminded me of a Dylan song...Yes I know Woody was his hero, wrote this before the Dylan song, but I never knew Talkin WWIII Blues was based off this song.

    Cool! haha.

  • @MichaelBallack91 Not just this song, Woody did a lot of different "talking blues". I don't think even Woody invented the talking blues actually, but he popularized it as a folk genre

  • beautiful video, nice song

  • @erissiva shut up

  • This comment kills facists

  • @JudahOwen i have "THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS" ON THE SIDE OF MY PUTER.

  • I'm just finishing "Bound for Glory" his autobiography. Anybody else? Would you say it's better than "Grapes of Wrath?"

  • @Catlovertea4 i would say it's somewhat close. but i'm just a big fan of Steinbeck so... :)

  • Maybe if that stew was a little bit thinner some of them politicians could seen thru it.......Thru this life I've seen alot of funny men; some will rob you with a 6 gun, some with a fountain pen.... But youll never see an outlaw rob a familly of its home... Wake up America its time for a third party. Fug the NWO,the time has come Liberty or Death. God bless Woody Gutherie!

  • I remember Woody Guthrie, he did a lot of song about the Dirty 30s.

  • @MrCraig1930 No, REALLY?! I mean he is singing about the dust bowl. I wouldn't have guessed.

  • Excellent!

  • Why can't taylor swift sound like this?

  • "there was a hairpin turn and I ... didn't make it."

  • woody guthrie and mark twain,.. keep on rolling.--richard cohen films

  • In a way woody´s got something very old we must never forget. One of the most powerful voices i´ve ever heard!

  • Translation for todays kids: "Its hard out here for a pimp"

  • Everything I know that's worth knowing I learnt from Woody

  • This is when America and Americans were still pioneers, and could provide and produce instead of consume.

  • @ivegotamagicstix word up man,i want to homestead some land man

  • never afraid of telling the truth, was he? ! respect people ! "this is history, not histrionics"

  • A big influence on Bob Dylan and apparently.....Ice Cube? lol

  • Gas Eilene. Shoot sound like Woodie could be the original rapper. Gas Eilene.

  • with this america will be revive.hope

  • @thewelford I'm not defending Obama, but W had much more to do with bringing these days back than Obama has...were we in better shape 2 years ago than we are now? Seriously?

  • So this is what it was like before music was invented.

  • @arichards518 You really have no idea do you? I bet you have never read John Steinbeck and the Grapes of Wrath either. Woody followed the box cars. His music was inspired by poverty, starvation, cruelty caused by greed and the bankers of the time. Go back and read some history, he roamed the US, motivated people to unite and challenge the big companies for a fair deal in work conditions and pay. So much more. His music was powerful.

  • starvation,cruelty,greed,blacklisting....yeap.....same shit...different pile.....I said that....

  • @SiriuslyEz cool story. His music still sucks.

  • @arichards518 Oh well, if that is truly your opinion, WC Fields hated all music and was totally tone deaf. Any relation?

  • @arichards518 "Cool story"!!! All I can say is that for you the best thing is "Ignorance is bliss"

  • Things never change.

  • i'm a HUGE Bob Dylan fan, but if i had to pick one musician to take to a desert island..... i'd pick Woody Guthrie.....Sorry Bobby

  • @PAULFC93 Woody certainly would never run out of songs.

  • I`ll gladly trade in my toyota prius for that ol 40 Ford. May not get as many miles per tank of gasiline but Id pick up more chicks thats for dern tootin sure!

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 Howdy Richard!! I found this masterpiece on your channel!! This is so darn cute!! Love this!! I think theres a little Woody in all of us!!

  • Comment removed

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 I wonder how many times Dylan used this tune for his songs? Talkin WWIII Blues, etc, Woodie talks just like Mother did, she use to make the best tater stew in Oklahoma. I have been trying to work out the recipe for forty years, never came close and I make a pretty good tater bisque.

  • " so darn thin I think our senators might see through it".....got this one back featured and Im fixin on tossin all that multi track crap and write me some folk songs.....

  • @CharmedQuarkZ99 Now that is what I am thinkin!

  • these here fellers need a talkin to......keep a thinkin.....

  • If you dont like Woodrow Wilson Guthrie ( you may remember him better as Woody Guthrie, Named after the President) You just may be a communist. Great song and video post!!!

  • aka Alonzo Zilch

  • Love you woody

  • if you think about it hes probally the first punk ever,

hes from like the 30's and he talks about how politics and government suck,

    just like the punks do!

    WOODY GUTHRIE owns!

  • If that stew would have been a little bit thinner some of these here politicians could have seen thru it! (I know a bit different lyrics).

  • Woody Guthrie was like the father of Hip Hop I'll call him Dub-G from now on and see if it catches on.

  • Times NEVER change

  • Awesome.

  • some people dream, some live. Woody dreamed and lived.

  • and lived the dream..."you can be in my dream if i can be in your dream" bob dylan said that

  • LISTEN TO ME NOW! This pattern sounds like the one Dylan used in Talkin WWIII. I know hes inspired by guthrie but its very similar to it.

  • alexdehart: This was a common format called "talkin blues".

  • @alexdehart Yes..... it's a common pattern, G/C/D is the whole idea of talking blues...

  • This is so similar to ''Talking John Birch Paranoid Society Blues'' its so hillarious there both precious timeless ballads

  • Cleary a huge influence on BobDylan.

  • yeah i think jack elliott and woody guthrie possibly the two main influences on dylans sound.

  • Woody you badass

  • THe guys not an idiot!!If he cant see the storm coming its his own fault.THey listen to all the political pundits leading them to the slaughter.

  • lol if it was thinner senators could see through it?

  • that dust bowl is wating for you, today. you bet your sweet comfortable ass it is.

  • some of us better learn to cook a tater stew... that's for sure.

  • This is way before i was born.. but THIS IS MUSIC!

  • @capin01 How does your age enter the equasion?

  • This ole guy really knows how to sing some music

  • woody saw the dark side of reality, but he had a wonderful way of showing the beautiful side of people as well. his style and works of art will always stand out as educational, inspirational, entertaining and just amazing

  • What a totally different USA that was back then ! ! ! And that was (not) very long ago at all ! It's a staggering (pace) of change !

  • Still true 70+ years later and Washington doesn't care they all are living like royalty.......Look for an uprising in 2010 ....

  • There will never be an "uprising" of honest "mr. smiths" in washington. The people who want to be politicians are almost always the ones you wouldn't want running the country. The good honest people are too good and honest to want to be politicians. VIVA REVOLUCION! =)

  • shut the fuck up you idiot.

  • this is an awesome version of this song. his other one is a little faster and more manic or something......

maybe this one is more deep and sort of believable..more real more depressing...

But, Woody: our senators are terrible today, you would be shocked, or maybe not. They cant even investigate 9.11 honestly.

  • In my Cadillac...oh wait, that's dylan.

  • AMERICANA

  • This music paints such a nice picture in my mind, just sitting on a porch in a peaceful field in the middle of nowhere, suns shining, few beers/cigarettes amazing.

  • it does not matter how thin the stew is.......our senators are blind....they cant even see themselves in the mirror....

  • always a real pleasure to hear Woody; God bless him.

    thanks so much to share

  • no one like Woody, aint bin an wont b,

  • Bob Dylan was a lot like Woody you sir !!

  • God Bless Woody.Amazing, wonderfull.

  • if u dont like woody, u dont like american music.

  • @BigBruinekool this has nothing to do with the ethnicity of the music.. What do you mean by "american music"? Patriots americans re god damn capitalists, imperialists, fascists, racists, etc... WOODY WAS A TRUE HONEST MAN WITH BEAUTIFUL SOUL!

  • @HeadHunteR1988 Not all Americans are that way. I'm an Anarchist, anti-capitalism, anti-fascism, imperialism and racism. I also live in America.

  • times have been harder. we re sissies

  • This sounds alot like his son Arlo Guthrie's 'Alices Restuarant'.

  • Most talking blues songs sound alike. It's just a very specific style. The only thing that changes is the lyrical content, and that's what keeps it awesome, because once you're no longer confined by writing a great tune, you focus on writing some great words.

  • I like this version better than the "Dust Bowl Blues," it's more serious, and tells more of a story, with more of a message to it than the original. Great (as they would call it these days) "remix."

  • great woody!

  • my wife.. haha its all a man.

besides that. this recording is much slower than the first one i've ever heard..

i'm fond of both very much.

  • You can see how indebted Dylan was to

    Woody.....brilliant.

  • Oh yeah... I can see it clearly! <3

  • it's true.. bob is the prophet though!

  • he ripped this off so bad eh? the new york one off his debut

  • Good song, and very charming!

  • Thanks man,brilliant tune!

  • Thanks so much for this song!
