  • was that crack in your house by this lightning?

  • yea whats that snaping noise?

  • Around 0:33 when I saw the strike I heard a *click* what was it? I work 2nd shift and sleep through some of the day so my windows are covered to make my room dark so I can sleep, funny thing is during a storm I can't see the lightning but can hear the thunder and I can tell when there is going to be a really loud bang when I hear my battery backup / surge protector make a *click* sound do to the disruption in power caused by a near by lightning strike.

  • áljo!klépoujh!

  • did it hit the house to the right?

  • That damaging strike, is closer then a mile, the second to mile conversion is 5 seconds to 1 mile lightning to thunder. That was about 1 second so 1/5th of a mile away roughly

  • Wow. I can't wait till I get to see lightning and hear thunder like that again... I love thunderstorms. :D

  • umm no offense, but I didn't see anything. When did it happen?

  • dude that is awesome

  • I had something similar happen to a computer. It was plugged into a surge protector and got fried. I even felt some of the charge come through the mouse cord. All my other electronics were plugged directly into the wall and came through just fine. Maybe the surge came through the phone line instead of the power line.

  • @bamaslamma1003 Waoowh !! I think that made you afraid !! XD lool

  • I really like it...I'd love to have power to control lightning !! loool !!! ^^ ..

  • Holy crap

  • Amazing sound quality.

  • do i 'hear' the lightning at .34?

  • @tobiasf1 If you watch closely you can see a lightning flash on the right of the screen. That's the lightning you hear at .34.

  • didn't you have surge protectors?

  • @122derek - Yes I had surge protectors. The electrical plugs and telephone were plugged into them.

The lightning didn't come through the electric or phone. It came through the cable television line - Through the cable modem, through the router to all the computers.

  • @FatLane Ok gotcha, I misunderstood. You should get a surge protector that has the capability of protecting your cable line as well. Sometimes though it can diminish the signal.

  • @122derek no surge protectors will protect against a direct strike, its just TOO powerful. it will go right thru it and whatever is connected. during a storm u have to unplug your electronics from the wall and cable/phone line.. i've seen waht it can do to electronics even on surge supressors. always unplug your expensive electronics during a storm

  • @122derek FYI surge protectors are not lightning protectors. I know they have lightning protectors but I don't know how expensive they are. My neighbors house got hit by lightning and it blew out all my phones and the garage door opener :( Oh well.........

  • @defcreator idiot

  • @Zabersus was a joke u dumbazz retard

  • This is a awsome video.

  • That was a cool zappy noise, unfortunate to your electronics as it was.

  • 0:35 clic ^^, the CB, very good sound and quality

  • very nice audio looked through ur comments....your Sony must've been working hard! haha but anyways good job

  • Cool video of the lightning & thunder. Well captured.

  • Were was this at?

  • @rockstarmonster90 - This was in San Diego (county), CA

  • I`ve been pretty close to a strike before (Luckily I was indoors) and I have to say, lightning`s not as loud as I thought. It was over as quickly as it hit and sounded like a loud clap...a little louder than a firework. Needless to say, scared the crap out of me but it wasn`t as bad as I`d thought.

  • Pre-crackle and boom!

  • Very good sound quality!

  • Very good sound quality!

  • @csengeri - Thanks csengeri... And I'm a fan of your thunder clips over at Freesound. I've got some other thunder clips there as well.

  • @csengeri very good storm quality and nice thunder sounds and lightning very cool as well and next year i am going to kansas where they have tornado's and so that will be fucking brill

  • nice lightning.

  • probably the best quality thunder on youtube

  • God must be winning bowling so much that he got a lightning strike

  • Nice thunder, I remember waking up to a storm in 2003 when a strike landed close by and I heard a loud crack albeit not quite as loud as that from my computer right before it cut out, fortunately, however, it was undamaged. I'm guessing my surge protector really did its job well in my case.

  • Yep, never ever think that Lightning won't strike twice or three or four times in the same spot! lol

  • lightning occasionally strikes twice in the same spot because its previous charge created the absolute perfect conditions for it to do so, it kinda layed a path for it to strike a second time in the same place, creating less resistance

the saying "lightning strikes twice" means it wont strike there again in the future because the chances are so tiny, its not impossible but the chances are rediciliously low given the span of the earth and how infrequent it will strike in the same city

  • Aahhhh!!!! Sounds like a typical British thunderstorm - nothing better than when the thunder is crackling and banging all around you!

    Awesome video!!!

  • That was cool you could

    hear the Lightning Strike

before the thunder that does not happen

    to often great catch

  • @garyhstorms09 u didnt hear thunder because it was so close.. (jees whats wrong with the public)

  • thunder is the sound of the rapidly heated air tightly surrounding the lightning. in simple form it basically means thunder is the sound that lightning makes. so saying you could hear the lightning before the thunder doesnt make sence, thats like saying you heard thunder before the thunder.

  • The thunder is lovely in this video.

But I agree the bolt @34seconds isnt amazingly close., maybe a few hundred metres .

  • 340meters aprox :P

  • When you hear that "snap" you know the strike is too close for comfort!!

  • B E A U tiful!

  • something was staticing at 0:34

  • amazing sound

  • Really nice capture of thunders, keep capturing them on media (as tapes is just about dead not lol)!

  • That was a DAMT shattering thunder, and the strike was not so close!! Really good! =)

  • I agree, how do you get such sound quality? excellent stuff.

  • Love the sound of your cam !

  • Lost a hub and several NICs, including one onboard to a strike that somehow got into my LAN cabling.

  • I here alot of snapping noises before some lightning hits in Katoomba and there is always a really big clap of thunder after it and it is kind of scarey to here the thunder. Anyways a awesome vid and thax 4 bringing back thos memories of the lightning sounds 5/5 stars man.

  • awesome!!!!

  • Awesome video. Reminds me of the lightning storms we get on almost a daily basis here in Alabama in the summer.

  • wow u lost 2k in a snap -.-

i actually wish to die by lightning, quick and clean death ;)

  • You must be kidding only if it kills you and it doesn't always, young lad out our way last year got hit, it blew half his skull off and burnt his feet to the bone, incredibly he's still alive and will never recover properly .

  • this video reminds me of the very close encounters I had with lightning twice in my life. the first time was when I was inside the house on January of 2000 and again when I was visiting my grandparents in Mexico on July of 2003. both incidents I had seen a very bright flash of light at the same time feeling a strong tingling feeling all over my feet and legs. fortunately I am still alive despite being very close to being struck by lightning twice.

  • i live in tampa bay....and i have seen some incredible lightning shows. i love lightning even though it is very dangerous.

  • at the beginning, for some skinny ass bolts, they make alot of noise.

  • Jeez, nasty! Was the electrical gear insured?

BTW, thanks for warning exactly when the big strike appears on the vid.

  • if you record close thunderstorms, NEVER plug in <your camera, use a battery...

  • Wow, man, too bad about your equipment. But you still got an incredible shot. Camera's stationary, thunder's awesome--it's all great. Whenever I watch it, I feel like I'm standing there watching the storm and waiting for the storm to build up!

    You've got my 5/5 stars!

  • crap!

  • That thunder is the best quality on youtube!

  • Nice thunders + lightnings!! we get ones like that all the time in summer

  • Nice thunderstorm

  • COOL very cool lighting strikes :D and that sound what is the model of camera? :D

  • This was recorded with an old Sony VX-1000.

  • what was that sound that made a click

  • WHOA!! That thunder is amazing!

  • Awesome thunder...Great video

  • This is not a lighting storm, this is just a DISASTER! My eyers ringing from that blasts

  • nice storm

  • that could happend to everyones houses, one night a big thunder destroyed my cable and there was no power few days, but one day before we got fixed I smelled some strange smoke,it was cuz of my cable,It almost started burning up.

  • man that storm must be bad.

  • omygosh!! my bro and i were playing super smash bros and there was a lightning strike almost simalar 2 this

  • oh god thats a fab storm but it sounds well pissed off! well done i would have been ripping me hair out!!! :-)

  • that was bad ass...not a storm you want to be walking around in. scary..but really cool...really good camera too..cant stand it when people shake the camera around..this is perfect..well done.

  • i think the birds picked a wrong day fer

    singin! lol

    awesome vid

  • everything would not work because that was MY House

  • that rlly sucks...happened to me and we lost a ton of electronics

so now we unplug the plasma and have surge protectors everywhere! lol

  • what sucks is if it strikes the pole outside NO SURGE PROTECTOR IN THE WORLD will protect against lightning. your better off unplugging everything electronic

  • the last lightning strike maybe only was 50-100 meters from you!

  • Wow... I would of been scared to death!! Im 13 and I hate storms still!! I cant belive you were just sitting there with a CAMERA in ur hand!!!

  • Actually, the camera was on a tripod and I was inside the house.

If I would have been standing there the camera probably would have flown off the balcony, and I probably would have gone with it.

  • Oh okay I think thats best that it was on a tripod!! Lucky you!

  • once when I was in philly we had a storm that turn of the light and tv

  • yes, people tend to call that "Power going out"

  • yeah no kidding who doesnt have the power go out

  • OMFG the thunder is not normal man, so loud!

  • HOLY CRAP!

  • I used to live down in south Florida and I know that sound all too well. Most of the electronic gear I moved down there with did not make it back four years later when I moved out. Glad you and everyone were okay. Electronics can always be repaired or replaced.

  • Great video. :

  • Oh. My. God. That is amazing, even though I'm absolutely terrified of thunderstorms, though I don't know why. At 34 I would have been crying when I heard that thunder... and I'm 15 XD

  • id rather get my electrical equip, ent getting fried than me getting fried!! great shots

  • Awesome thunder...Great video

  • wow, where the hell do you here thunder like that? amazing!!!

  • great lightning captures, and the thunder is pretty wicked too. sorry to hear the lightning zapped a bunch of your stuff, but at least it didn't get you!

  • Hello

The Sound is Wonderful and the Video = wow

  • Thank you for your comment.

  • what state of america is that?

    florida gets them quite alot

  • This was in the foothills of San Diego, California.

  • THATS pretty unusual, san diego doesnt get a lot of t-storms

  • Wow, beautiful lightning strike :D

It couldt be wonderful video for a screensaver :)

  • there was a lightning storm at my house a year ago, and i was on the PC. im like ooh i better turn the PC off, i turn it off and go into family room, i just sat down when the loudest sound was made. the lightning hit our antenna. my tv was fried and it had ultraviolet blue flames dancing in my TV, my router was fried, and our house started to smell like smoke. we had to call the fire department. but the house was fine. fucking scary shit though.

  • holy christ. i'm glad you're ok!

  • cool

  • super cool im in a bad storm right lightnig is kikuin butt im tring to grt a good lighting strike so i can post it

  • scary i hate lightning

and actually theres a storm right now!!!

    fucking hell!

  • For now, you people who have experianced these are lucky, very lucky.

Just hope death dont sneak up on you. =]

  • wow

  • Super

  • i didnt see much of wat happend so 2 strikes hit weres the damaging part?=|

  • k the last strike. right before it did u hear a TCHZ. and did u notice how far the bolt was.

lol imagion if u were in teh middle of it

  • WOW...u can tell that was extreamly close b/c JUST B4 u see the lightning you hear a clicking sound...(electrical components basically frying) then you see the lightning

  • i'm sorry i don't captured this, but i swear: onetime lightning striked my window!

  • WOW

  • I love it when that happens!

  • THNX 4 THE film fatlane it waz sooooooo awesome

  • GIBWB translation ( Gets in bed with Blankie )

  • I was at home alone during a thunderstorm, boy it was scary, and it even fried my computer, but my uncle made me a new computer, took some of the same parts and put them into the new one.

  • it's monsoon season here in Vegas and that is pretty much whats going on here. Freaky

  • Holy shit

  • oh but that could be the one behind the camera. sorry!

  • Yes, I think that was the case. At 39 seconds you can hear another deep boom, which I believe to be the thunder from the strike we see on camera. The white house w/red roof we see in front of the strike is just under 1/2 mile from the camera.

  • no way thats a mile....dont you know the rule?

1 mile = 5 seconds of time from when you see the lighting and when you hear the thunder.

probably something like 750 - 1000 feet! just a fact...not tryin to be a know it all.

  • I hate it when that happens!!

  • what is the cable amplifier???

  • "The snapping we heard was the destruction of my cable amplifier" He's right

  • you dont see this every day........

last night there was a strike in Amsterdam, holland here too....KABOOM

  • You really captured the essence of that storm. The video and audio quality is perfect. I can't get over how dark the sky looks. That cell must have been enourmous. I'm guessing this thunderstorm occurred in Northern California. Is that Mount Diablo in the upper-right hand corner? That's too bad about the electrical damage that happened to your cable equipment. At least it wasn't you that got fried.

  • u unplug everything and yet u dont unplug the simplest of things lol, it had to of sucked

  • thats why you unplug electronics in a thunder storm

  • I had all of the computers electrical plugs pulled from the wall. Unfortunately I didn't think to unplug the cable. The charge came through the cable line, through the cable amp (blown), through the cable modem (blown), blew out two network cards and one DVR deck.

  • wow

  • great footage, one of the best ive seen, sorry to hear the spectacle caused such damage.

  • We've had absolutely no thunderstorms this year. Plenty of rain but no storms. The only storms I've seen so far is on YouTube. Great vid!

  • It takes about 4 to 5 seconds for sound to travel a mile. So that lighting was alot closer than 1 mile.

  • TYSVM, ''sebringts'' and ''Fatlane'' for your nice responses to my recent comments. BTW..finally, here in southern RI..I did videotape some nice lightning and some real NICE thunderclaps((also audiotaped too))--best ones so far in '07!!! From 11am--2pm 7/18/07...was I so HAPPY, at last:-)

  • umm... where was the danger? i mean, im no doctor or anything, but um... where was the danger?

  • THIS video: Excellent lightning and outstanding thunderclaps.... I love it... if only such Tstorms occured here where I live with my own HiTech 8mm camcorder I got on 2/20/07 and videotaped such shows, I'd then feel like ''Bill Gates!!!'' Excellent job and TYSVVM for sharing it with US:-)

  • your right it is a lot better with the camera sitting still!

  • Thats power.... its like magical.

  • took less than 1 sec so about 150-300 yards away

  • You KNOW it's close when you hear that snap, I've heard that in a few other clips with extremely close strikes

  • Great lightning footage...you must have had it on a tripod, like I do when I records storms...having the camera not wildly waving back and forth makes it so much better...great sound too. Nice job.

  • I most sincerely agree with you, ''Sebringts''... I love this steady video shot of the awesome lightning and thunderclaps... if only MY place here in RI had the such-awesome Tstorms too THIS record-breaking whimpy-2007-Tstorm season, I'd feel so tycoonishly rich!!! How I envy you and all of you who GET the such awesome Tstorms I am NOT getting...

  • Don't envy my storms too much. At my location here, we hear thunder maybe two or three times a year (sometimes less). So when they come, I make sure I'm ready. And yes, a tripod is the only way to record lightning.

  • Yup...know how you feel...not that many good storms this year so far in Philly...and most of the best ones happen on weekdays while I'm still at work...grrrr. Lots of my latest ones are at night...challenging conditions...autofocus goes nuts, and you have in and out focus, which sucks. Same thing happens with fireworks; you have to set the focus on manual, maximum distance, beforehand, I've learned.

  • Next time buy surge protected cables

  • who farted in 00:34?

  • hehehehehheehahahahamuuuuuuuuuhahahaha ...me..

  • aaah, you again ;)

  • very nice sound :)

  • veeery nice man, the sound quality is just perfect, there should be more videos here on youtube, lightning videos recorded with good cams! I love the character of the thundersound, sounds very big and aggresive, the sky looks vicious too, the strike was AWESOME...it's bad your devices didn't survive.

  • Awesome!! I also think the first one (0:14) struck two times (0:19) in the same place! not a return stroke.

    great video and sound.

  • BRILLIANT!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Nice bolts dude! This is insane...

  • this is so sweet i love it

  • Why don't you record thunder sounds to the freesound(dot)iua(dot)upf(dot)edu ? I have't heard any cool storm sound recording like this!

  • I've thought about participating in that site before. Now that I have even more good audio stuff, I think I will. The sound of this is much better in it's raw stereo state. Look for me, I'll try to use the same user name.

  • I looove that thunder very much! Thank you for sharing.

  • I just visited Arizona and experienced a monsoon storm. Great experience. Not used to 3 inches of rain in an hour.

  • yes,yes thats why you always unplug all appliances and electronics that you don't want to replace or have the money to replace because lightning loves those things. :)

  • then really quick thin ones are the loudest ive noticed that :p

  • Excellent video and great audio.

  • I love the sound of loud close thunder! Nice capture, and when you hear the snap before the lightning strike then that means one is forming. I heard it in another close lightning video as well, its the sound of the streamer, but iam sure someone ALREADY said that but yea VERY nice capture!

  • I was in arizona during monsoon season in the mountains. Wow. It was a LIGHT show. BRILLIANT! Love it. Like this but one after another and HUGE! Isn't it amazing?!

  • I grew up there. We looked forward to monsoon season. maybe we were idiots. Someone should try to capture the running lightning that scurries all over the desert floor during that time of year. THAT is scary.

  • Spectacular visual and audio quality. :)

  • ive heard that snap before during a very nasty lightning storm..guess i was lucky the streamer didnt connect.

  • great sound!!!
