Nice, Check out my 1988 T-Bird. Got mass air as well. Still in progress. Just put Nitrous in, eibach springs, bilstein shocks, custom headers/exhaust, and OF COURSE 5 LUG CONVERSION WITH COBRA RIMS/BRAKES!!! On my home page. Still got a ways to go.
The guy in the Honda was a friend of mine...he was an amazing driver. He would brag about being able to do a 14.9 in an SOHC civic hatch with just exhaust and a cai. He did just this, w/ me in the car! I have seen a few others drive normally 16 sec cars to a 14.9 or something. I for the life of me can figure out where they find that almost 2 seconds, I drove a 2nd gen teg with that engine and it was pretty lack luster considering the weight diff vs the CRX.
This video brings back memories. I wish I had gotten to turn that car with the new tires, roller cam, exhaust. I sold this car and I kick myself every day for it. I think it did 15.1 for its best run before any real mods were done. I was in college then and could not afford anything other than the dry rotted tires that came with the car. It was hard to get a good launch. I have an 87 Merkur XR4Ti that I am working on now.
I like how in the beginning of the video there is a slight overlay of a Gen3 Taurus SHO emblem. I'm assuming who ever made this video also has a V8 SHO.
how is the 2.3L turbo coupe? i have a 89' 3.8L thunderbird which is slowerthen crap but its got an awesome stereo and what not but i thought about buying another t-bird or maybe a mustang next year when i work
pretty much everyone who made a comment against hondas is wrong. i dont even drive one and i know you are all full of shit. 3400lb car with 200hp vs 2100lb car with 140..... the crx is not turbo.
with about 2000 in parts the tbird will own the civic, nothing against hondas they are not drag cars, they are good for road course tracks, I have an 01 grand am right now that has eaten up 2 civics running turbo setups.
the CRX had an engine swap...the bird was pretty much stock and weighs double what the CRX weighs. I say it did pretty good all things considered. I am sure he had 3 times as much in that CRX just to run a lousy 14.9
Turbocoupes have lots of potential there are people making 400hp on a stock block with bolton's. I would like to see a CRX do that with out a FULL rebuild and engine swap.
Once again 20 year old tech with more potential that a Honda? Yea...
@turbotuner2300 the crx is only 2 years newer than the bird... and it's got a 1.8 N/A engine, and it's fwd, rather than a 2.3 turbo with rwd. and it gets 30mpg city all day. and the crx STILL won...
idk why you have to bash on hondas, i have a crx and i love turbo coupes, i almost bought one. but it pisses me off when people bash imports for no good reason... and especially when they have to make stupid excuses for losing.
hey, the ford 2.3 liter 4 cylinder is an awesome engine and they can make 400-500rwhp and that is with readliy available parts. Your lack of knowledge on this motor is pathetic. It has a history as storied as the 5.0 and for a 4,000lb TC it didn't do bad with a 15.6
boost controller,Volvo FMIC kit from stinger performance, ported polished upper lower manifold and ported/polished exhaust manifold you will run 14.9's with under well under $500.00 spent on it. cant say that for that civic.
I've got an 88 fully optioned -leather and the way I bought it, it had a manual boost controller and a k+n filter. I gave it some more timing and it went 14.9@90 with the stock IHI turbo. My car without me in it weighs 3400# JFYI
That an auto Bird? If so it's not as much power as the 5 speeds (FTW). I just didn't see any nose dipping or hard launching as is typical of the T5.
gumper1986 1 year ago
@gumper1986 It was an automatic, im 100% positive. I have the T5 in my car and the front end flies up even with the slightest amount of boost.

3 times as much money in the crx to run a 14.9? you must be joking.. a 14.9 is pathetic for a swapped crx. go on youtube and find a real honda

NeonsRule24 4 years ago
yeah, but the T-bird weighs about 1000 lbs more than the CRX.
musewolfman 4 years ago
no 190crank hp and 240ft-lbs in 87-88 and 150hp before that (40hp came from the factory air to air top mount with functional hood scoops)
