this woman reminds me of the PEACE PILGRIM story....many years ago...a woman who walked everywhere & people took her in. her only property was the clothing on her back. she walked all over the US carrying her message of PEACE until she was being transported by car to a talk, and was killed in an accident. I'm not sure what would happen if this was actually attempted on a global scale, but her years of living without money and actually being happier for it is testament that an alternative is possible, at least as implemented in the life of a single individual.

You really can't live without money the way our system is set up. I can't just ask the person at the store can I fill up my car with gas for free. I have to have a car to get to school and work. If I tried to live without money I would be nothing but a piece of shit because I would be incapable of doing anything in this money structured global system.
As long as money determines our decisions we will continue to see the degeneration of our environment, freedoms and quality of life.
A resource based economy is inevitable if we are to continue to survive on this planet. This is awesome. I'm also trying to live a minimalist lifestyle, but to a lesser degree. Just getting rid of most of the stuff you don't need, and not buying extra stuff are huge steps. If I don't use something at least once a week I, give it away, or sell it.

So I don't really see how you can say she 'leeches' off others, as both parties agree to this barter system, and not necessarily out of a sense of charity on the other party's side - both parties must essentially feel it's a fair trade. It's simply that the transaction does not involve money at all for goods and...

Also, a hero isn't defined as someone who doesn't depend on anyone else - it simply refers to a person who has been able to rise to the occasion and do something that is difficult or exceptional. Plenty of heroes depend on the support of people around them, both in reality and fiction - from real-life policemen and firefighters, to characters like Harry Potter and his friends.

Watch zeitgeist, the money system can never work anyway and we need to start working to make the world better not just to get some papers. You really can't live without money the way our system is set up. I can't just ask the person at the store can I fill up my car with gas for free. I have to have a car to get to school and work. If I tried to live without money I would be nothing but a piece of shit because I would be incapable of doing anything in this money structured global system.

As long as money determines our decisions we will continue to see the degeneration of our environment, freedoms and quality of life.
A resource based economy is inevitable if we are to continue to survive on this planet. A monetary system breeds competition, corruption, unsustainable consumption of resources, war, poverty, crime, hunger, disease, etc.. Watch Zeitgeist moving Forward if you have not, and share it. @darbone I agree! This video is based on a concept that right now sounds good in theory. The woman is nothing more than a good hearted soul living off of other peoples generosity for the sake of promoting a concept without thoroughly working through all of the details first. Wait until she runs out of caregivers, who will invite her into their nursing home? If she had her own family I bet she wouldn't be doing this! I wonder what nursing home will let her come stay with them for free? HA!

I agree completely with the premise of this movie...but I just went to the website and clicked on the "order DVD" link...do you realize how hypocritical it seems?...a pic of the DVD with the title "living without money" and just to the left of it the "buy now" button and a list of credit card companies!! Surely you can do better...

This is awesome. I'm also trying to live a minimalist lifestyle, but to a lesser degree. Just getting rid of most of the stuff you don't need, and not buying extra stuff are huge steps. If I don't use something at least once a week I, give it away, or sell it.
Not only am I much happier, because I don't care about how much fancy stuff I have, but its better for the environment because I'm consuming less resources.

I understand what you say..., - As of late, I have begun to learn what it is like to live without money...and not only is it possible, I'm leaning more towards the belief that it's necessary for our future. So much is done by way of insuring profit that we have become blinded to the concept of profit at the expense of everything else. Lately, I have seen what we have been doing...you couldn't force me to spend another dime, I would not wish to cause anothe to suffer if I can help it...
