  • I've got a 4GB Sandisk Cruzer. Not a micro. I don't think it even opens the same way. I have majorly important work on it that I haven't backed up and months of edits and rewrites on my novel. I'm talking about 60K words. Don't have that kind of money so any help with how to do the procedure on a regular usb would be appreciated!!

  • Thanks

  • I have a sweex mp504fmv2. i have blue screen suddenly. can you help me?

  • Cool! I soved my trouble using this video! Tnx for sharing it!

  • I have a Cruser 4GB that looks like this on the outside but when I crack it open it is different. It has the E square on the side and 5 little ones 3 whitish and 2 blackish. How do you do this with a different circut? It states it is a SDTNMMBHSM-004G on the chip under Sandisk. Any info would help thanks!.

  • is it possible to remove the chipset without destroying the case, as I would like to put a larger storage chip in the cruzer case As i like it more.

  • I have a 8gb cruzer and my circut board is different what do i do.

  • Простой случай при пере полюсовке, а если слетел контроллер?

  • U R THE BEEEEEEEEEEST, i sware ur a Fuckin Jenious !!!!!!! thnx *& sorry for my Language, HAPPY NEW YEAR

  • I L.O.V.E. Flashdrivepros . com!!!!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!

  • hey my flashdrive doesnt even light up is there any hope should i send it in?

  • @h0llywh0 Absolutely! We're able to recover the files in at least 94% of cases.

  • my circuit board is different, i own a transcend 8gb usb.....cn somebody help me understand which one is the capacitor in the circuit???

  • @abjeth Sorry but this trick only works for Sandisk Cruzers. Recovering a Transcend drive is a bit trickier.

  • wow... Thank you very very very much..

  • wow... Thank you very very very much..

  • @marioandresroldan You are very very welcome!

  • Also see our latest blog post: How to Repair a Flash Drive!

  • Thank you very much. My circuit board was different but I took the chance anyway and it worked. Thanks again.

  • @reveuse31 Nice! Glad it worked!

  • I bet mine at 5 degree angle. You think it's repairable? The light comes on and it did say "Device found" but not anymore.

  • how do you people find out all this stuff? you're ALL brilliant. gives me a headache. do you know how to get the stuff off a Sandisk micro onto a mac??

  • @PolyphonyDigitalGT Just a pair of tweezers with a angled head. A standard pair of tweezers should work too.

  • I FINALLY GOT MY PICTURE OF A BANANA BACK

  • @powxpurplexx Hmmmkaay. Happy for you, I think?

  • Also works for the 8GB model - in case any were wondering..

    career saver.....

  • I've got a really cheapo one, I have been using it the past few days and just now the resistor on it broke off, If i solder it back on will it still work

  • i have a transcend v10 flash drive that has the same symptoms, are you able to tell me what surface mount capacitor it is on my drive?

i am hoping to get the dats off it.

    Thanks

  • Ha! So happy! This technique worked on my Transcend usb.. thanks so much!

  • @misscaffeinenicotine

what model of transcend was yours?

ive got a V10 that is giving me this problem, lights up and everything, its hard to tell what resistor is the fusible one and there is no schematics publicly available.

  • @misscaffeinenicotine Really? That's incredible. It must have been an old drive with SanDisk guts.

  • Hope you do a video with a 2GB DANE-ELEC I have some info on one that I would like to recover T-T

  • This says $97 but the website says $147

    BEWARE

  • @1derbouy While we try to offer the lowest price possible, $97 ended up being a little too unrealistic. I hope you can appreciate that $147 is still incredibly low for data recovery. Plus we only charge if we are successful.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! You just saved 3 weeks of work. If you weren't over the internet I'd give you a BJ

  • i need help too , i'll really glad to pay more if you want to show me how to fix my flash disk or get my data back at least. i have source code on it which i can't remember how i made before. my flash disk is PQI travelling disk 2 GB U273 series with one memory and controller chip from micron ( 0938 MT29F2G16AABWP WP ). some software detect as Kingstone DataTraveler 2.0 USB device and JetFlash Transcend 8GB USB Device.

  • Hi my name is kaleem , n im from india.

my 8GB pendrive problem is when i make a file/folder/download from my pc the file or folder shows 000000 data. please give me a solution for it as soon as posible.....

  • ok i have the same thing only its a 2g and the board looks different i need help!!!!

  • @rebelcountry33 Unfortunately, if the circuit board doesn't look exactly the same, there's no quick fix. Feel free to email us at support (at) flashdrivepros (dot) com if you need more assistance.

  • @FlashBackRecovery Surely since the components are the same and only the orientation is different it could work?

  • @EpicMudbud The skills required for this kind of repair are such that if you can't figure it out without assistance, you will more that likely ruin the drive in the attempt if someone were to tell you the steps.

  • On my flash drive the port part fell off (the rectangular part that you plug into the computer). is there anyway i can fix this even for just a few seconds to copy a file off of it? it disconnected from the board but everything is still there

  • could you please tell me how to shor the resistor what should I use and where should I get it from. Please hurry a whole GCSE depends on this.

    Many thanks.

  • @Sahan250 Just use a pair of tweezers or a paper clip. Good luck.

  • hi how do you do this to a 32gb one ?

  • how do you fix a flashdrive when the usb gets bent?

  • @Animaniacs11 Repairing a bent or broken USB connector can be as simple as soldering some leads to the circuit board to extract the data or as involved as rebuilding a damaged circuit board. If the damage it too severe, we can remove the memory chip are read it externally or put it on a new flash drive. Please visit our website for more info.

  • thank you, if it wasnt for you i would have failed my class, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @roger12363 Glad we could help! Now don't forget to back it up! We offer a program called FDP Sync that does it automatically. You can download a free trial on our website.

  • Will this work if my sandisk is equipped with u3 password but suddenly stop working? asking to format drive because it is unable to read it.

  • @nznoname Sadly, we haven't had any luck breaking U3 password protection.

  • The USB connecter broke and my brother tried to resolder it but then it shorted out (I don't think he resoldered it correctly). Even with what I just told you, could you still get all my data off my Sandisk Micro (U3) 8 GB flash drive??

  • Hi FBR - I have a Transcend 16gb usb drive which needs data recovery. Have opened it and the schematic is different. Looks like there are 8 r'tors unlike the 4gb sandisk cruzer demonstrated by you. Where can I get a schematic to know which c'tor to break and which r'tor to short? Do I really need to break off the c'tor to proceed to the shorting of the r'tor? Will appreciate any help you can provide.

  • Want to prevent this from ever happening again? The Flash Drive Pros just created two apps designed to prevent flash drive data loss. FDP Sync automatically synchronizes your flash drive files with your computer's hard drive. FDP Locker lets you password protect your flash drive with 128 bit encryption. Check out the website for more details.Flash drive data recovery software is coming soon!

  • Brilliant!! Worked like a charm. Thanks very much for posting..

  • will this work for the cruzer micros that do the 3 blinks repeatedly? thanks!

  • My memory board doesnt look like that..is there a recovery for a different cruzer??

  • Are there any "around the house" tools I can use to short the second resistor? I am not sure what you were using. Did you have some sort of current going through the "pinchers" or were you just squeezing with something. Thanks.

  • Just a standard pair of household tweezers should do the trick. Yes, current is passing through the tweezers creating a short circuit. Just know that the circuit board needs to look just like the one in the video for this to work. (SanDisk has several different configurations). Also, proceed at your own risk.

  • @sblavo

Yes, almost anything with reasonable conduction would work. For example a piece of wire or paperclip, but the tweezers make it easier to grab ahold of the ends of the resistor so you don't break the circuit if what you use moves around a little.

However, some would just tack a piece of wire down and solder it across the resistor.

  • it worked!!!!! thank you soooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome! Glad to help!

  • Do you know how to do this with the newer SanDisk flash drives? I have a 32gb flashdrive and it looks a little different.

  • @DollarBill26 me to lost all my pics from 32gb argh.... any would be good ..thanks david

  • my pendrive asks for formatting but i can't afford to format the data

    so any suggestions

  • my problem is that it goes on for 1/2 and off again. would this be the same fix? also you cant stop pinching while you save data?

  • This is a great vid.

I'm a beginner at this, but this video really helped.

Just a note, the one I worked on looked slightly different (its like the two capacitor were located to the top left of that E chip [sorry, I don't know its technical name] but I had to break off both which turned on the LED, but the cpu wouldn't read it until I pinched the bottom-most chip with the forceps). Sadly though, mine short circuited right as it was loading the auto-play menu :(

But yeah, this guide works :) }b

  • Just tried this! It works I could not believe it! THANK YOU!

  • Glad to help.

  • are you sure those two (amber and black) are both resistors ?

  • Do you actually connect 4 usb cable in the that one in each, anybody know with information

  • do you actually put it in the computer as you are pinching the resistor? can you please explain the procedure a little clearer please? like what do you mean by connect the usb cable

  • @Jojo99987 You can use a male to female USB cable to connect the flash drive while shorting (pinching) the resistor.

  • @FlashBackRecovery can you put the usb directly into your laptop or do you need a cable, also do i have to short both parts whilst it is connected? if this doesn't work will i still be able to pay and recover my files?

  • thank you very much!! :D you helped me a lot!! wow ^o^

  • You're very welcome!

  • can you please help me?

i have the exact same usb flash drive that was in the video. it was plugged into my laptop and it was knocked over, landing on the flash drive and the part that stuck into the usb port broke off. is it possible to retrieve everything i had saved on the usb drive? if so, how?

    thank you!

  • @krystina08 You can try to solder the connections from a usb-connector again to the right ones on the print (pcb).

  • PLEASE HELP!....I still have my old 512MB SanDisk Cruzer. It stopped working with I improperly disconnected it. If you can show me where the resistor (or capacitor?) is on a 512MB SanDisk Cruzer Mirco USB, that would be awesome!! I have wanted to retrieve some old files from that USB for a while now. I think the 1GB and 512MB USB look the same..not sure though. Thanks!!

  • @tototaya

This hack will probably not help you since your flash drive probably has logical filesystem corruption not the shorted capacitor and blown 0 ohm resistor-as-fuse problem.

  • OMG! thank you thank you thank you thank you! This worked! I am so glad I checked youtube before shipping this out. I was able to recover all of my files

  • Great! Glad it worked out for you!

  • SkiLegend: A pair of tweezers. AgaJabba: The proceedure will not fix a bad micro controller.

  • Is this a method of fixing a controller chip failure or is it completely different?

  • how do you "short the other resistor?"

just not clear on how to short it..

  • If the files on your flash drive are at all important, data recovery should only be performed by a trained professional. There are several risks including ESD, damaging other components while removing the capacitor, and not recognizing other types of damage like a lifted solder pad. Why risk your important files when it only costs $99 to have a pro get them back?

  • what is the risk by do that technique?

    for non xpert...

  • As a data recovery technician, I've used this procedure about 20 times and it has done the trick in each case. Just make sure that a) the drive is not detected in the computer (if you get the device not recognized error, etc., the procedure only works some of the time) and b) there should be no physical damage.
