  • Bought some EB 011.-054 in C tuning...Works better than many of the same diameter of different brands!

  • Earnie ball strings arent worth shit they fucking suck cock the worst strings ive ever played on for 5 min, yeah they brake every time i put them on and ive always played and tuned with other strings and they dont break so wtf, i guess black people(monkeys from africa) made them so u have to keep buying more but unlike retards i stopped buying them after the first couple.FUCK EARNIE BALL COCKE SHINING NIGGER MADE STRINGS.

  • @MrMetalshredder u so funy, troll.

  • it sounds like petrucci is running some type of od pedal in front of his amp cuz rectifiers are not this crunchy.. anyone have any ideas as to what hes using? i no he says he has a keeley mod tube screamer in his rig.. will that give you this type of crunch if used in front of the amp? when i put my zakk wyldle in front of my single rec it tightens it up a lot ( kinda sounds like a mark series) but it also thins the tone too much. Petrucci's tone here is like exactly what im looking for

  • i just put ernie balls on my guitar today and they feel a bit tight. also they only wrap around the tuning things on the headstock once, is this for normal for ernie balls?

  • ive tried these strings but personally i like PRS strings better. They are truly smooth sparkly strings.

  • I only use Ernie Balls. I use skiny top heavy bottoms on most of my guitars, but on my tele I use super slinkys. Best strings in my opinion

  • @StephenFiorentini I use the skinny top heavy bottoms on all my guitars too!

  • Slinky Tops Heavy Bottoms <3

10-52's (orange pack) best strings easy

  • Can somebody tell me, I want to use one of my guitars and tune it down to D Standard. What gauge should I get for it to feel like 9's. Would 10's feel like 9's if I tune it to D?

  • Dream Theater - As I Am 1:02

  • I'm Boondox of da bay.com bitch keep ya fuckedup comments to yourself nigga!

  • I've had a bad experience wit the skinny top heavy bottom so I use ernies power slinky and xl addardois still seeing which is better for me also got dr strings but there to light of gauge

  • should i buy these strings?

  • ERNIE BALL SUCKS, IBANEZ RULEZ!

  • I have change from D'Addario to EarnieBall and i feel a lot of difference!Very confortable stings and stay and don't lose tune easily.Very good strings!!

  • Those ernieball guitars don't have the options that the Ibanez JPM's have like the 'World Domination Mode', 'Kill Zone Mode', body-paint by Michelangelo, and hand-wired by Tony Blair HAHA!!

  • nice guitar tone..

someone please tell me what kind of effects he use?

    he sound heavy..

  • I love this. He comes right out and says "No, I do not like these strings." Instead of saying a bunch of BS. Still love Ernie and Still love John.

  • which string is better for small fingers??thick or thin???i never try thick though

  • well for me i use thin but i have medium size figers and i think it just matter on ur comfort

  • it's as i am from the train of thought

  • What is the song at 1:12?

  • its As I Am from the train of thought album

  • @Hobbs8887 as i am

  • John Petrucci is my favorite player but how do you tune down to C ?

  • From lowest to highest, C-F-A♯-D♯-G-C

  • John is a great player

    ROCK ON BRO

  • Great Looking guitar !

Also love the Music Man Axis Guitars!

    Great Guitar player

  • 1:45 - 1:56 now that SUCH a fucking sikk riff hahaa

  • I've used standard string and tuned from standard to Drop C back and forth a few times, works just fine on my guitar

  • THANX!!!

  • Does he use the Ernie Ball 2223 super slinky ?

  • No, as shown in the video he uses

    Ernie Ball Not Even Slinky

    12-16-14-32-44-56

  • He said at the beginning that he was using 9 gauge strings though

  • i giot some now my fingers hurt

  • which ones you get

  • @bcrichplayer88 lawlz i have calluses all over my hands i cant hurt

  • damn he put on some muscle since than!

  • i know watching the new DT live dvd and the G3 dvd he is massive now

  • The tone he gets with the second guitar is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE sound for metal. It's fucking BADASS. End of story.

  • EW what the fuck!? 9's in C? Get some fucking 11's.

  • he was using 9s as an example. he normally uses 12-56 ernie ball strings for c tuning as he said after.

  • His website says he uses 12's for C tuning...

  • its john petrucci he knows what hes doin

  • 9's in drop C feel like spaghetti. You have to compensate for the looseness with thicker string gauge.

  • Read everyone's responses to what I said dude.

  • Does anybody know what mesa amp might he have used in this video? RK?

  • Hey Dude. Its Road King. That was his amp of choice for the TOT Album and tour.

  • Eddy van halen loves ernie ball,he said, why kill yourself trying to play.I use them to,they r the best.I can play anything with them. MY guitar stays in perfect tune.muffling strings sounds excellent.

  • hmm i wonder why JP uses 9s if he plays some many heavy riffs...

  • You can get all the heavy riff soinds u want with 9 gage,it depends on what amp your using to get that sound.

  • yes but 10s give a more rich sound

  • agreed plus they just feel solid

  • he uses 10s for his guitars that are tuned below the regular pitch

  • I find they also wear down frets faster

  • riff at 1:10 ?

  • As i am from Train of Thought

  • I play D'Addario's Nickel Wound 13-56 Jazz Medium Gauge, they're great for everything from Jazz to Metal (best for both).

  • 1:10 "As i am"... hell yeah

  • his guitar sound just sounds so IN YO'FACE and big.its fantastic!!!

  • The riff that starts at 1:30 has a bit of a Devin Townsend feel to it I think

  • does any one know which way he places his d sonic in the bridge? With the bar facing the neck or bridge?

  • check out on ernie ball web.. or music man

  • I´ve seen him playing always with the bar facing the neck, but i´ve read that when detuning is better to have the bar facing the bridge.

  • "this is my cock, it's very... *TOOYIIIIYYYNG* rubber bandy..."

goddamnit, his tone is divine. i want that too :(

  • whats the song he plays at 1:10?

  • As I Am from Train of Thought

  • god i dig his tone, its so tight when he palm mutes, with the perfect amount of very crunchy distortion.

  • is that his Roadking distortion?

    wow!

  • what kind should i get if i want to play avenged sevenfold music

  • Well if your looking for beefy tone, but dont have quite that much money....Id suggest the GHS Zakk Wylde Boomers. If you have the cash, id just go straight for the Dean Markley Blue Steel's, and of course the Super Slinkys by Ernie Ball (Gauge 10-47

  • @LOGOZZY1369 funny, in my town they're about the same price.

  • look into the Ernie Ball skinny top heavy bottem

    its like a 52-10

  • @zombiegreencard The Avenged Sevenfold page on Ernie Ball's website shows that they use Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and titanium-coated Super Slinkies.

  • i use extra slinky ernie ball:

    8

    11

    14

    22

    30

    38

they sound pretty good!! you can do all tipes of harmonics, the have a really pure sound

  • how low would 11-49 be able to detune before being crappy

  • I think you could detune to C with 11 - 49, i play in D and i have 10-47, They're not floppy at all

  • yes that the string gauge what he uses.....

    C with 11

    D with 10 and

    E with 9

  • id say c possibley b sharp

  • theres no such thing as b sharp...

  • oh fuck i forgot lol

  • i guess everyone gets a brainfart once in a while =D

  • Bahahaha the musicians running joke.

  • i like ernie ball skinny top heavy bottom strings.

  • He has never played As I Am on an Ibanez live

  • ROFL. Owned.

  • ibanez blows

  • Its been nearly ten years since he switched. And the Ibanez picassos did sound good for the type of style DT was employing at the time, but for what JP needs now and to cover older material, EBMM all the way.

  • i love it when he plays those HEAVY RIFFS!makes me bang my head!

  • El sonido de petrucci es realmente hermoso, poderoso, creo ke es el mejor sonido de de todos

  • apestas.

  • Does anyone know what gauge he uses when he's tuned in standard E? 9 or 10?

  • 10's

  • he uses 9 gauge strings in standard e tunings.

  • Is that his 7 string...cant really tell

  • no it's a six string it's just tuned to C

  • He's GOT to have the best tone... it just melts my face off.

  • yea, the mark IV pwns all

  • Ernie Ball Music Man - John Petrucci Signature

  • Those strings are awesome, I cant wait to put them on my SG when i get it. They already sound good on my ibanez.

  • are the second pair 12 guages? holy

  • they're gauges 12, 16, 24, 32, 44, 56

    holy shit is right

  • Tuned down to C standard...they feel like 9's or 10's would in E standard though.

  • hes awesome

  • Wow I thought he used .010 or even .011 string gauge when tuning down to C, but he uses .009, the same as EADGBE... sounds interesting, you can make huge bends without worrying about brake a string LOL

  • The idea is that he shows you C on .009 to show you that Not even slinkys are far better for the job he doesnt actually use .009's when tuning to C normally

  • what distortion effect uses petrucci in as I am?

  • He uses the distortion of a Mesa Boogie Roadking head.

  • what song is on the beginning?

  • honor thy father from train of thought

  • It works to use 9s with drop C but thicker strings are better. The problem is that if you only got one guitar and you want to play on standard tuning also. It´s not fun playing in E with 12s....

  • what is he playing at 1:04 sorry, haven't ever listened to Petrucci

  • "as i am" - dream theater

    the verse riff.

  • as i am

  • logo thats cuz hes using 9 slinkys, then later he talks about beefer slinks for the tuning. durr! hah its all good.

  • What i still dont get is if hes advertising a product that hes endorsing, then why does he explain the flaws of the strings?......Quoted "There really bendy, and the riffs where you really have to dig, and mute, the strings start to really go OUT OF TUNE." WTF IS THAT SHIT?....If hes going to advertise, the least he could do is say some fake shit about the product.

  • Haha I realized that too. At first I thought he meant OTHER companies strings go out of tune and all that but he was talking about Ernie Ball lol

He said they're good if you want "loose, out of tune feel" lol

  • All low-gauge strings are "rubber-bandy" as he said, and are not good for chunky riffs because they'll go out of tune. He's simply explaining why he uses the 12-gauges...

  • yea aparently these guys don't realize that all 9 gauge strings would suck for C tuning.

  • Yeah well this video was pointless anyways. No one uses gauge 9 for tuning to C. If he's going to waste his time, at least demonstrate something else.

  • agreed

  • this kid at my school used 9s i think for drop a or something like that. totally gay.

  • ah well:p he's being honest that kinda means you can trust him i think

  • Does anyone know the EXACT model name of the second guitar he plays? That is the EXACT model that I've been looking for. It's a beautiful instrument!

  • That is a Ernie Ball Music Man Petrucci Signature. As you can see, it doesn't have a piezo and JP inlays. It does have a matching headstock. I think the colour is Blue Sparkle.

  • I know that, I meant like is it Family Reserve? or is it a limited edition? And how can you tell there's no piezo on it?

  • if you just search the internet , you will find this guitar. it's not a limited edition or whatever, I think. and like beqarnham says, a Petrucci piezo guitar has a switch.

  • it's not a family reserve, because the family reserve guitars have a special inlay on the 12th fret

  • because in the piezo guitars (jp models) there is a swith like in the les paul (up)

  • John Petrucci Ernie Ball mystic dream

  • his tone sounds so good you really can't even tell the difference, ha. Im sure you can tell its too loose when you're playing though.

  • does someone knows what picks he uses?

  • Jim Dunlop Jazz III picks.

  • just wandering...how do u know he uses those picks?

  • He said so in some interviews. Jazz III picks are really good for fast picking

  • The song after As I am is Honor Thy Father. Those strings are great, I have one of my guitars set up with them and they are fun to play!

  • can anyone tell me what song hes playing after as i am?

  • that riff in the beginning is honor thy father the one after the not even slinky is as i am

  • dam his tone gave me a ear-orgasm...

  • Word!

  • you mean an eargasm!

  • :P

    Steve Vai

    Joe Satriani

    then John Petrucci.

    End of story. :P

  • Im almost in love with you ... man, i would just say Petrucci JUST after Steve Vai ^^

  • he's awesome, even though he uses ernieball electric strings for metalXD, jk, hes great even though i've never heard of him

  • whats the begining

song?????????? PETRUCCİ'S THE BESTTTTT OF WORLD;)

  • Honor Thy Father, from the Train Of Thought album

  • best best best of the world, only petrucci

  • great guitar player;-)

  • can somebody tell me what songs he plays from 1:05 to 1:58 i gota learn that it sounds wicked

  • Going in order from 1:05 to 1:58>>As I Am, Stream Of Conciousness, and Honor They Father. That was exactly how he played man. Hope you enjoyed the vid, and learn those songs. I know i did.

  • i cant hear that riff that is apparantly in Stream of Conciousness, i listened to the whole song and didnt find it, could you give me the time frame in the song where it is located?

  • please, tell me you guys are kidding. Off course he played As I Am (at 01:07). Greatest guitarist ever btw

  • of course he did!! it's obvious!

  • Is the riff that he plays right after the "As I Am" riff from a specific song?

  • Most of the riffs are from "Honor Thy Father". I heard some "In The Name of God" in there too...Didn't hear "As I Am" though...

  • That riff following As I Am at the 1:30 mark is a riff from the song "Honor Thy Father" and "Stream Of Conciousness" combined together off the Train Of Thought album

  • Really? Because "SoC" and "ITNOG" are on my top 10 fav DT songs, and it just didnt sound like either.

  • This video was actually made to respond to the video DR Strings made to Ernie Ball dissing them, So they had John Petrucci jump in front of a camera with the signature strings on his guitar showing off how good EB's product is.

  • there are so many jokes i can make about the stuff he says in this

  • best guitar player ever

  • hypothetically you mean
