  • K thanks.

  • ours was a low cost generic. It worked but you needed to get a nice little pile of magnesium shavings to really get it going.

  • Need a lil tip. My dad is out of town and he bought me ona these. Actually. The same exact one as in this vid. He sent me a pic of it and its same. But is this a good one? Does the mag go pretty good and start pretty good? And is it generic or a good one.

  • u need some tinder

  • What it looks like you have is actually a Kindling Pile not a Tinder Pile, Tinder is more the lines of Cotton/paper, kindling is the wood which starts at toothpick size and moves to pencil size. You Will not light wood with Just mag and Sparks.

Next Video you make use the same rod and start with a cotton ball with a dab of petro jelly in it not much. Then Use Toothpick sized wood and then pencil sized. Strike the Rod into the cotton without the mag. Magnesium will help the cotton if its wet.

  • The Black Rod is ferrocerium the SIlver is Magnesium. The Magnesium Is used in conjunction with actual tinder to ignite it faster with less sparking effort. Your Ferro/Mag Starter works just fine and would work even when wet because Metal does not absorb water. At the most You would have to shave the rust off if it soaked in water for say weeks to months.

The Shavings you are creating with the mag bar are way to big to properly catch the spark.
