@neothespian rofl i was just kidding. my cast iron is like a sacred relic in my kitchen... but imagine how pissed your mom or granny would be if you swiped their cornbread/biscuit cast iron.
@Ben85paintball They use it because of low recoil AND enough stopping power. You say "They use it because of low recoil" like that's the only advantage of this round, and that's what bothers me. 9mm will kill if it hits in torso, doesn't matter where.Good thing about 9mm is that it has just enough stopping power, while introducing moderate recoil. However,i never stated it's strongest handgun caliber....that's outta question :)
@Ben85paintball Oh really ??? So why didn't you said that in first place??? 50 browning will kill also, but there is really no need for it. It is OK that you like some round more, some less, but in reality,9mm is proven to be just enough for kill, and it has moderate recoil- That's why it has been used for years-perfect ballance between stopping power and recoil, not only recoil- It kinda sounded like you said,"it's used because of low recoil...I hope they'll switch to 22 lr,it has even less recoil"
@Ben85paintball First thing- Get your shit together, and don't leave dozen of comments... Second,Army or not, whatever, you should know that after firing a few shots you get used to weapon, regardless of caliber. He can't group your .40 because it's whole other weapon, not only other caliber. And 9mm ISN'T USED BECAUSE OF LOW RECOIL,IT'S USED BECAUSE OF EXCELLENT BALLANCE BETWEEN PARAMETERS THAT MAKE CALIBER A CALIBER.If you really were in Marines, you would know all this...Ask Spec-ops can 9mm kill...
@Ben85paintball HAHAHAHHAHAHAHA !!!! Yes,you're right, they're now switching to 22 LR,only because it has LESS RECOIL !!! Dude,do you really think I'll take seriously someone who never fired something stronger than a paintball rifle ? Trust me,army and SWAT teams have no problem with recoil control even at .44 rounds- they use 9mm because it's the best- Penetration,knock-down power and reliability makes this caliber perfect
Hey, now I know where that stolen frying pan from my daughters barbie doll house is.... ;) I´ll send you my heavy iron frying pan to shoot at instead.... I would also like to see you try out some black pepper, tooth picks and my wife´s old kitchen radio which is killing me. Hell, you could find a lot of fun stuff from a kitchen to shoot at... :)
don't blame the round. its all about shot placement anyways. you can put someone down with a .22 if you hit them in the right places. more powerful rounds just make it easier
I always laugh when people call em p#*sy ass 9's.They have plenty of power & the recoil is very low.Back on target much quicker than a 40.The ammo is cheaper too.If you want more aint nothing sweeter than the crack of a .45 acp. or .44 Magnum.
and it doesnt matter if its FMJ or HP...a bullet is gonna go through a frying pan no matter what...you just cant use a 9mm as a defense round...they suck...they dont pack enough punch...a kid at my school, his house got broke into...his dad shot the dude 6 times, and the robber got away and lived...explain that one dude?????
@justinmfielder15 I'm pretty sure I can, shitty accuracy. In all honesty if you can't drop a guy with six rounds of anything you seriously need to spend more time at the range and doing training. A 9mm will do the job just fine depending on placement. People have been shot 5+ times with an AK-47's 7.62 and still lived to tell about it.
@justinmfielder15 6 times? damn that kids dad has got to be the worst shot in the world. let me shoot u once i bet you a billion dollars u wont be standing
How many people in this forum bitching about the "stopping" or "knockdown" power of the 9mm round have actually shot someone with, or been shot by, a 9mm weapon system? Case in point: when you get shot at point blank range in the chest with a Hydrashock JHP 9mm round, I emplore you to look at the shooter and say, "you know, a larger round would have hurt a lot more guy." You're all talking office-space theoretical ballistics. Get real. A head shot from a .22 will kill you. That's all...
people that say a 9mm is not a good self defense round are ignorant and have no concept of physics. Although some rounds may be arguably better, guns DO NOT knock a person down, such "knock down power" is how much damage you do in a shot. A 9mm is a high velocity, medium mass round, which causes hydrostatic shock and a... um....9mm hole in the recipient on impact.
9mm's have killed plenty of people to prove its lethality.
@ThePurpleNinja4209 Knock down power is amount of kinetic energy transfered to area. Area is ussually 1 cm* I aprecitate that someone actually understands the point....
When i was at the range last year i thought it would be a good idea to do the same exact thing i started off by shooting .22 s....they went right through but then i shot it with a .357 or a .38 i cant remember which and it ricochet and hit me...i still cant figure out why it ricochet multiple times
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@xethanxflipsburgers they someone actually did a test, and proved that a 9mm isnt a good defense roound, the power behind them isnt enough to really do anything...9mm is a popular round, i understand that, plus they are cheaper, but there just isnt much behind it as far as power and "knock down"...learn about the guns dude. it helps to know stuff
@iMagUdspEllr Given the fact that most accounts of getting hit with a 7.62x39mm round [from a Kalashnikov rifle] say that it felt like getting hit with a baseball bat, and the fact that the US soldier who was shot [and survived thankfully] by a Dragunov [7.62x54mmR] was knocked down by the shot, I'd say large caliber bullets do have the power to knock someone down, even if it doesn't kill them.
No, they don't go flying back 10 feet, or even 2 feet, but the force of the bullet does stop them.
@b0n3z3z Yeah like getting pushed... off balance... and then FALLING down. If I pushed you in the shoulder while you were blind folded in body armor and et cetera you wouldn't be able to compensate for it... then you would lose your balance and then you would FALL down. But that is when you are standing and taken totally off guard... normally in a fight you aren't just standing there you are taking cover and not able to fall over (because you are kneeling or laying down)
@iMagUdspEllr A .45 Hollow point is a kill if you hit in the upper region. A 9x19 Parabellum might kill you in the upper region usually that is. And when you get shot YOU GET KNOCKED DOWN, BUT you probably wont know you got hit till about 5 seconds later when it really starts to hurt.
9x19 Parabellum goes in the body and comes right out.
.45 Hollow Point goes in the body and mushrooms and sends shrapnel thru out the entire area of effect.
@ConstantinEWire A .45 hollow point to the "upper region" doesn't = a kill. Mythbusters shot a 185 pound dummy with a .50 BMG round and the dummy only moved back 2 inches. A .45 ACP will not knock you down. The difference in energy is only 100 ft/lbs between a 9mm and a .45 ACP. Shot placement is what matters. A .45 in the lung doesn't equal a 9mm in the heart. All common handgun rounds are ruoughly the same in killing potential until you start talking .44 magnum (same energy as a 5.56x45 round
@ThroatSlitta I would agree depending on which organs it hit and how long you think it will take to kill should it strike those organs. But a 9mm can do the same thing.
@iMagUdspEllr Shot placement matters,so as whether target is wearing armor or not... What counts there is bullet hardness, speed etc. Ballistic is complex science, something that no one here doesn't know good (including me)
@5ky5tr1d3r Body armor? Well you want something that has a smaller surface area (pointier) and harder (steel instead of soft lead) in order to pierce body armor, yes. But what does that have to do with 9mm vs .45 ACP?
@LateKnight347 No, listen, if anyone else doesn't believe me that guns don't knock you down. Watch Mythbusters Episode 25. They shoot a 180lb dummy with a Barrett .50 cal. The bullet became lodged in the metal spine of the dummy. That means 100% of the bullet's energy was transferred to the dummy (instead of passing completely through a softer human body). The dummy only moved back 2". So if a .50 BMG round can't knock you down then no handgun can (or any lesser rifle for that matter).
@iMagUdspEllr that was to prove that they wont go flying through the air not that a gun shot wont knock you on your ass a 12 gauge will break a 2by4. both of those shots would of hit a bullet proof person with a lot of force.
@LateKnight347 If it moved the 180lb dummy 2" then it won't knock you on your ass either. Who cares if a 12 gauge can break a 2x4? A .50 BMG round has over 10,000 MORE ft/lbs of energy than a silly 12 gauge. All guns hit you with "a lot of force" but the momentum of a 180lb person isn't defeated by a 800 grain (or 52 gram) projectile even though it is moving at a very high velocity. Like I said the bullet was caught by the dummies spine which means 100% energy transfer. It wasn't enough.
@iMagUdspEllr ok well their test is all messed up for 1 thing a human torso doesnt weigh any thing near 180 lbs. it shouldnt be hanging. also did you see all the steel the bullet went through that reduced the force maybe not as much as if it would of just went through. however the force of the 50 was greatly reduced. 1000 ft/lbs is enough to knock you on your ass. thats as hard as heavy weight boxers punch. the 50 is like 13000ft/lbs
@LateKnight347 A human body weighs around 180 lbs. The whole dummy weighs 180 lbs. Your point? It shouldn't be hanging but it it carefully balanced... it doesn't take much to push the dummy off. The steel plate was hanging from the dummy... any energy that went into the plate would push the dummy. No energy was lost (same as having body armor). 1000 ft/lbs applied slowly is a push. 13000 ft/lbs applied quickly pierces. That is why bullets don't push. Oh look... you are still wrong.
@LateKnight347 well under knock down we don't actually mean that they'll take the person they hit through brick wall, off the ledge, and nail it to stone walls.... :))) Knock down power is simply power of round delivered to target...and,if you thought that they can't kill, you're wrong...very,very wrong :)
@5ky5tr1d3r nah i was talking of the impact force. ppl seem to think it is a myth because a tv show said so. lets say a man with a 12 gauge and man with a 9 have a gun fight. both men are have on a bullet proof vest and are 10 feet apart. i think that the guy with the 12 gauge is more likely to return fire than the man with the 9. id bet if 12 guage guy got the first hit in the vest he could get a second hit before the man with the 9 could shoot him back. i dont think the reverse is true
@LateKnight347 Whoa,is this about quick drawing or caliber impact force??? :) Hand gun 9mm will be drawn faster,if that's the thing...As for body armor, though none of these calibers can penetrate vest, certainly that 12 gauge will pack stronger punch...35 grams load??? Winning combo :) Even better, just PM me link to that episode of Mythbusters...I think i watched that episode, but can't remember the name
@5ky5tr1d3r my point was that a shot from a 12 gauge in the vest will move someone around too much to shoot back very well. getting shot with a 9 in the vest wont move the person much. im just talking about force from the impact not the pain factor. the myth buster show was disproving the movies that ppl fly around when they get shot. not the knockdown power isnt real. its called "blown away".
@LateKnight347 That's right. If you go out without broken ribs (most likely you won't) :). Anyway, impact force from 12 gauge is more than enough to kick you out of ballance. But,in real, you will feel pain through vest- That's what draws attention, and you probably won't hit shit than-if you can do it continously, you're a phenomenom-sign in special forces
@justinmfielder15 the actual force of the bullet doesnt knock you down. its you not wanting to stand up after having a 3/4 INCH HOLE IN YOUR STOMACH. now .50 bmg however...
@justinmfielder15 oh really not enough knock down power huh? hmmm must be a die hard .45 acp fanboy, you obviously need to learn a bit more about guns because the fact is with the right self defense loads the average 9mm flies at over 1200 fps and hits with more than 400lb of force, combine that with specialty jacketed hollow points that crumble or "mushroom" on impact and there is plenty of stopping power, and thats not even getting into +p ammo, sure target ammo is weak, but who cares?
@justinmfielder15 if a 9mm doesnt have power or knock down. than lets you and me go to the range. you can be my target and afterwards you can tell me all about it. if your still alive which i doubt it.
@justinmfielder15 A 9mm will do the job fine. I doubt that 99% of human beings will with stand a whole magazine of 9mm's. Shot placement and practice are vital with any round. I personally like my .45 acp's, but the 9mm has it's place too.
@justinmfielder15 Who exactly are "they?" "They" come up with a lot of tests. "They" tend to use tests that are biased and far from scientific. "They" usually don't know what "they" are talking about. Granted, the 9mm isn't perfect, but the first rule of a gun fight is bring a gun. I don't care if it's a .22
@justinmfielder15 You are retarded, a 9mm will do damage. It does have "knock down" power. If you get shot by a 9mm one day, then tell me it doesnt have any knockdown power...
@justinmfielder15 dude... so go ahead and attack me so i can defend myself by shooting you with a 9mm and tell me that there's not much power behind it... you can send me hints and encounters of how much it hurts in your surreal life as a ghost lol.
@justinmfielder15 so your telling me that if i shoot someone with a hallow point 9MM they wont go down what if im not aiming for the body i say if i hear some body in my house or on my property i aim for that thing that sits on your shoulders that should take care of the prob but according to you it wont
@justinmfielder15 Look at the hole in pan, now look at your chest, now look at the hole in a pan, now imagine this hole in your chest. now tell me, why do u think that this round dosent have a power to injure or maybe even a kill someone. There have been accidents where people get killed by .22 rounds... :[
@justinmfielder15 yeah, an all the folks killed by 9mms didnt have much damage done to them.... they just decided it was their time just as they were gettin shot :P..... idiot.
@justinmfielder15 Depends on what ammo, fmj isnt worth a shit, but hollow point or this new type of ammo, that ive seen and done, shot a deer at 40 yds with a pistol, it just drops, and leaves a hole big enough for 4 fingers
@justinmfielder15 XD...Don't come to guns videos to play games. You can tell your friends this, they might believe you,but around here cut the crap.9 mm is most widely used round,by special forces,,by army,by civilians. They wouldn't use it that much if it's bad! 9 mm offers best balance between knocking power and speed. Don't watch data from hunting carbines, than come here.9mm PARA offers around 250 joules (239 if I remember well) of energy, enough to make big hole, and probably damage inner organs
Now thats the shot it made to what, im guessing a metal frying pan and it has good expansion, now im asking ive shot books and stuff, but on soft tissue, the tissue would turn into a load of mush and blood and stuff right? Like throwing a firecracker at a bag of red icing or perhaps pudding?
Oh yeah that is a HP 9mm. They have that distinctive sound when they shoot. I have shot mine enough to know. Once I got the clip broke in, it shoots good. More accurate than my Glock 23 40cal.
@lilchris6889 No, this is the part where I prove you wrong and thereby correct all the wrongness on the internet. There. Done. Now I will go make fajitas.
Go team bullets! Good to see people get educated on what REALLY stops bullets instead of what TV shows you. Note that a real cast iron frying pan would've stopped that, but probably not a rifle round.
@liOVERLOADil actually i have a hi-point 9mm and there pretty accurate from what people say they are most of them hasnt ever shot one the ones that actually have like them
@StoppingPowerInfo at least you know what to do to get "weird" comments. When i get another USB cord for my BB phone, I will do some more. I have a couple, I hope they are good hits.
that is your lesson for today girls and boys when someones got a gun dont grap a frying pan

@iMagUdspEllr that was to prove that they wont go flying through the air not that a gun shot wont knock you on your ass a 12 gauge will break a 2by4. both of those shots would of hit a bullet proof person with a lot of force.
LateKnight347 6 months ago
@LateKnight347 If it moved the 180lb dummy 2" then it won't knock you on your ass either. Who cares if a 12 gauge can break a 2x4? A .50 BMG round has over 10,000 MORE ft/lbs of energy than a silly 12 gauge. All guns hit you with "a lot of force" but the momentum of a 180lb person isn't defeated by a 800 grain (or 52 gram) projectile even though it is moving at a very high velocity. Like I said the bullet was caught by the dummies spine which means 100% energy transfer. It wasn't enough.
iMagUdspEllr 6 months ago
@iMagUdspEllr ok well their test is all messed up for 1 thing a human torso doesnt weigh any thing near 180 lbs. it shouldnt be hanging. also did you see all the steel the bullet went through that reduced the force maybe not as much as if it would of just went through. however the force of the 50 was greatly reduced. 1000 ft/lbs is enough to knock you on your ass. thats as hard as heavy weight boxers punch. the 50 is like 13000ft/lbs
LateKnight347 6 months ago
@LateKnight347 A human body weighs around 180 lbs. The whole dummy weighs 180 lbs. Your point? It shouldn't be hanging but it it carefully balanced... it doesn't take much to push the dummy off. The steel plate was hanging from the dummy... any energy that went into the plate would push the dummy. No energy was lost (same as having body armor). 1000 ft/lbs applied slowly is a push. 13000 ft/lbs applied quickly pierces. That is why bullets don't push. Oh look... you are still wrong.
iMagUdspEllr 6 months ago
@LateKnight347 well under knock down we don't actually mean that they'll take the person they hit through brick wall, off the ledge, and nail it to stone walls.... :))) Knock down power is simply power of round delivered to target...and,if you thought that they can't kill, you're wrong...very,very wrong :)
5ky5tr1d3r 4 months ago
@5ky5tr1d3r nah i was talking of the impact force. ppl seem to think it is a myth because a tv show said so. lets say a man with a 12 gauge and man with a 9 have a gun fight. both men are have on a bullet proof vest and are 10 feet apart. i think that the guy with the 12 gauge is more likely to return fire than the man with the 9. id bet if 12 guage guy got the first hit in the vest he could get a second hit before the man with the 9 could shoot him back. i dont think the reverse is true
LateKnight347 4 months ago
@LateKnight347 Whoa,is this about quick drawing or caliber impact force??? :) Hand gun 9mm will be drawn faster,if that's the thing...As for body armor, though none of these calibers can penetrate vest, certainly that 12 gauge will pack stronger punch...35 grams load??? Winning combo :) Even better, just PM me link to that episode of Mythbusters...I think i watched that episode, but can't remember the name
5ky5tr1d3r 4 months ago
@5ky5tr1d3r my point was that a shot from a 12 gauge in the vest will move someone around too much to shoot back very well. getting shot with a 9 in the vest wont move the person much. im just talking about force from the impact not the pain factor. the myth buster show was disproving the movies that ppl fly around when they get shot. not the knockdown power isnt real. its called "blown away".
LateKnight347 4 months ago
@LateKnight347 That's right. If you go out without broken ribs (most likely you won't) :). Anyway, impact force from 12 gauge is more than enough to kick you out of ballance. But,in real, you will feel pain through vest- That's what draws attention, and you probably won't hit shit than-if you can do it continously, you're a phenomenom-sign in special forces

@justinmfielder15 They're fairly compact rounds, and they beat the hell out of a .380!
honorabovelife 10 months ago
@justinmfielder15 the actual force of the bullet doesnt knock you down. its you not wanting to stand up after having a 3/4 INCH HOLE IN YOUR STOMACH. now .50 bmg however...
aldaman8 10 months ago
@justinmfielder15 It has a good enough knockdown power as a 45
SPARTAN1T 10 months ago
@justinmfielder15 oh really not enough knock down power huh? hmmm must be a die hard .45 acp fanboy, you obviously need to learn a bit more about guns because the fact is with the right self defense loads the average 9mm flies at over 1200 fps and hits with more than 400lb of force, combine that with specialty jacketed hollow points that crumble or "mushroom" on impact and there is plenty of stopping power, and thats not even getting into +p ammo, sure target ammo is weak, but who cares?
SSSDiaz7 9 months ago
@justinmfielder15 ur a fucking dumbfuck how about i shoot u in the chest with a 9mm and see if ur still walking
itinkgirlzhot12 9 months ago
@justinmfielder15 if a 9mm doesnt have power or knock down. than lets you and me go to the range. you can be my target and afterwards you can tell me all about it. if your still alive which i doubt it.
tidblgger 9 months ago
@justinmfielder15 A 9mm will do the job fine. I doubt that 99% of human beings will with stand a whole magazine of 9mm's. Shot placement and practice are vital with any round. I personally like my .45 acp's, but the 9mm has it's place too.
House6409 9 months ago
@justinmfielder15 Who exactly are "they?" "They" come up with a lot of tests. "They" tend to use tests that are biased and far from scientific. "They" usually don't know what "they" are talking about. Granted, the 9mm isn't perfect, but the first rule of a gun fight is bring a gun. I don't care if it's a .22

sk8rguy178 8 months ago
@justinmfielder15 You are retarded, a 9mm will do damage. It does have "knock down" power. If you get shot by a 9mm one day, then tell me it doesnt have any knockdown power...
MrNutnAddict 8 months ago 2
@justinmfielder15 dude... so go ahead and attack me so i can defend myself by shooting you with a 9mm and tell me that there's not much power behind it... you can send me hints and encounters of how much it hurts in your surreal life as a ghost lol.
EBB47 8 months ago
@justinmfielder15 so your telling me that if i shoot someone with a hallow point 9MM they wont go down what if im not aiming for the body i say if i hear some body in my house or on my property i aim for that thing that sits on your shoulders that should take care of the prob but according to you it wont
monstermiataman 7 months ago
@justinmfielder15 Look at the hole in pan, now look at your chest, now look at the hole in a pan, now imagine this hole in your chest. now tell me, why do u think that this round dosent have a power to injure or maybe even a kill someone. There have been accidents where people get killed by .22 rounds... :[
viesturs93 7 months ago
@justinmfielder15 Anything that goes cleanly through a frying pan wouldn't feel like a massage if it hit you in the head or chest, dude..
cksugdad 7 months ago
@justinmfielder15 yeah, an all the folks killed by 9mms didnt have much damage done to them.... they just decided it was their time just as they were gettin shot :P..... idiot.
RealisticSigma 7 months ago
@justinmfielder15 Depends on what ammo, fmj isnt worth a shit, but hollow point or this new type of ammo, that ive seen and done, shot a deer at 40 yds with a pistol, it just drops, and leaves a hole big enough for 4 fingers
TheWakeMonster 7 months ago
