hey man..do i need drivers for a MS-DOS or PC-DOS build??i have teh same motherboard and cpu(440bx2-450PII)I have a trident vid card, sound blaster 16 and 5.25,3.5,HD..Iam gonna need a refresher here since it been along time..lets start with what version dos are you running?
@TheDman216 You'll need drivers for your CDROM and SB16. I can email you images of the SoundBlaster 16 installation diskettes if you'd like. CDROM drivers can vary. If you have an IDE one, it's simple. If you have one of those funky sound card attached ones, you need a specialized driver for the interface.
Sweet. I've been working on my DOS box for a few years now and it's almost done. I have Dual P2 450s, with 1GB RAM, 3 HDDs with UltraATA66 controller, 3DFX V5 5500, Gravis Ultrasound and SB16. At some point I want to upgrade the GUS to a GUS MAX and change the SB16 PnP to a regular SB16 so I can change the addresses.
@PiIsARational I had a 1.2GHz Athlon based DOS system a while back and found it to be too fast...that may be a bit too much hardware for some of those old games and demos! Nice rig though :-)
@FastMHz Well the beauty is that DOS and Win9x will only see 1 processor but to triple boot in Windows XP it will see and use 2 processors so it's slow enough to play the older titles but fast enough to still get online and do whatever I want in XP.
I use a PIII 600B with 256MB of RAM for my DOS/Win9x games, but none of the awesome cards nor ISA slots for the awesome sound cards... Oh well, at least what few Win9x-only games utilize EAX and Hardware T&L will be happy I have a SB Live and GeForce 2 MX in the PIII computer. But then again, a lot of the games I want to play on that machine really need a Voodoo to run with any means of stability, so I still need to track one down.
