Hi.. I noticed your forward controls may have been relocated? I've been looking into doing that but haven't found anything. Can you tell me what you have done with your forward controls? Thanks!
I was looking for a video on changing my sprocket on my 06' shadow when I found yours. I machined my own 37 tooth sprocket out of O1 tool steel and hardened it. Changed the chain and I thought I was on a different bike. Very smooth. Thanks for your mod video. From Colorado.
Thx for a great vid, and an awsome mod, just done this to my 1997 Ace, the differance is amazing, I can't stop riding the thing, planning to go touring in France this summer, even the wife on pillion said it's so much smoother and comfortable. Why, Why, Why....... did Honda not fit a 37 tooth sprocket in the first place???????
If there is anything you can learn from this guy it's how to mount a camera... Thank you so much for not being yet another wind static mess forcing me to turn off my volume
Do you think this would be a good option for my 07 Shadow 600??? It only has four gears. I am more interested in lowering my RPM's at higher speeds since it is only a four speed!!
LMAO JUST THAUGHT ABOUT THAT>> "Searching for sixth" So true.. Do not know how many times I kept looking for that dam sixth gear.. Nope.. This is it..
Ordered the sprocket for my Spirit as well. Can't wait to take that first freeway ride to school.. You got a nice bike man.. Nice mods and sounds slick. Sweet video man thanks for taking the time to show other "Spirit Riders" a sweet easy mod. Thumbs UP!
I had trouble finding a 37 tooth sprocket for my 03 Shadow so I ended up going with either a 38 or 39 lowered my rpms while cruising top gear on the highway but cant seem to get it up past about 85mph now... any ideas. Seems like that 750 just doesn't have the horses to pull that in the mountains. It used to but it sounded like I was gonna blow the thing up is why I dropped those teeth to begin with...
I found a company in Texas that will make the 37 tooth sprocket. The name of the company is PMP sprockets. They charged $60.00 for the sprocket, $10.00 to color it any color you want and $10.00 for shipping. Turn around is 1 day. The bad part.....its aluminum.
Where did you find the 37 tooth sprocket? all I can find are 38s... But theres probably not much difference between the two right? I'd love to do this mod as soon as possible, it seems great.
Did you change the front and rear sprocket or just the rear sprocket? Where did you purchase the new sprocket/sprockets. Was in difficult to install. I am making the modification as soon as the snow melts.
i love my '07 750 but like most i felt that going faster than 65 was straining the motor. i was always hunting for 6th lol. i went down to a 39 tooth but after seeing this i will definately be dropping to a 37 tooth. thanks for the vid man!
hi, i have a 4 stroke 125cc bike (Honda Stunner) i want increase the top speed of my bike it goes max. 110 kmph. If change the rear sprocket it will help or not . Plz give some ideas....
Yes. You must go to a smaller rear sprocket. I would not go smaller than 4 teeth. For example...if you have a 40 tooth rear sprocket, do not go smaller than a 36 tooth. Remember that whatever you gain in top end speed, you will lose in bottom end take off power.
thanks... i'm turning my 225 into an enduro and i need a little better cruising speed.. tops out at 65 'd like to be able to cruse at 60 without feeling wound out haha
@Italianstallion1 I have a 2002 Honda Shadow Spirit and my chain needs to be changed and sprocket would I have to change the front one allso, if I went from a 41 tooth to a 37
I did not lose top end speed... I gained it. I did lose a little bottom end though but hardly anything to worry about. Yes. I did the same sprocket change on my 1999 Shadow ace 750. I did a 38 tooth sprocket and a 120 link chain. It works fantastic. 75 m.p.h. with no problems at all.
No....actually your fuel milage will increase. The sprocket mod actaully lowers the r.p.m. My milage increased from 43 m.p.g. to 49 m.p.g. And no more looking for 6th gear when you are at 55 or 60 m.p.h.
It's the most popular mod for the spirit 750. It also increased my fuel milage to aprox 52 m.p.g. It cruises at 65, 70 with no buzzing and a much smoother ride.
Seems like the major importer of these sprockets to the US is having problems getting them. Late August 08' is the earliest they will have them. Geezzz... I bought the 39 tooth while waiting for the 37 tooth. What chain breaker and riveting tool did you use?
k ...put in first slowly let the clutch off and giv lil gas AT SAME TIME and when shifting in to second do u put in clutch and shift...when doun shifting put clutch doun and push lever thing shifter doun to lower geer and when stoping put clutch in and roll while shifting into 1 right...and can u roll with no gas and no clutch like let off on the gas and dont put in clutch will it kick me off
the more speed you want you have to sacrifice power off the line, so bigger front and smaller back then stock will give you what you want, if you dont have enough power get smaller front and bigger back, its like ratio gearing, he's talkin about the number of links in the chain, 540 is just the series of chain which most motorcycles come with
So does the stock sprocket get up to 5th too quick? The 37 tooth gets you to a cruising speed at an sooner gear? I'm getting a 750 very soon. Very nice video, I love your bike. ^_^
Where did you find the sprocket and chain. I've got to do that to my spirit. I go on long rides all the time and get so tired of hearing the high rpms while on the highway. thespirit world rocks
Where di you buy your 120 link chain at? I know it requires a 525 series chain, I am trying to fin the 120 link chain now. U already found the 37 tooth sprocket for $39 online, just gotta locate the chain. Love what you did with the bike, I would love my gearing like that. I'm doing this to my 750 ACE.
I did the same with my 2002 Spirit and chose the 39 because I weigh in at 225 and worried about the starts. I worried for nothing and this change was one of my better ideas, I still get about 50 MPG raising hell and 55 on long trips. How'd you mount your camera?
Very cool...you got me thinking about maybe the 38 tooth. I have a 750 ACE, and my wife has the Spirit. We like taking long jaunts on the bikes, and it would be nice to take away some of the "buzz". Good sounding pipes too, btw.
They say..."what you gain on top end, you lose on bottom end"... I really didn't notice too much of a difference. It's WAY better than stock though.Yes, I lost a little bottom end but the sacrifice was worth it to me just not to hear my motor buzzing at 50 m.p.h.
yea, the engines pretty awesome at low end anyway, so it wouldn't make a big deal to lose a little. I wonder if you can do this kind of thing with the shaft driven shadows by changing the final gear or something.
I know the guys with the 1800 VTX are swapping their final gear with the VTX 1300's because the gearing is way better in the 1300's. check out some forums for the shaft drive and see if people are doing that yet. Thats the only reason I went with the chain drive . It is still one of their biggest sellers that have unlimited modification potential. You should check out THESPIRITWORLD dot ORG and see if anybody knows about the gear change.
I've had it up to 85 with no problems and lots of room left to keep going but thats too dam quick for me anyway. I like to cruise at between 65 and 70 on the highway.
OMG, that was awesome. I sooooo have to do that. Was it complicated? Where did you find the sprocket and new chain? Did you lose any starting power? or does it accelerate just fine from a dead stop? By the time I am going 50mph, I am already in 5th and then it just screams at 65-70mph and I am looking for that phantom 6th gear. Best mod I have seen yet for these bikes.
Thanks for the feedback on your mod. I have been toying with the idea of doing this on my 2007 Shadow 750.

@boyzpiyush
You wont gain anything but sluggish acceleration.Your bike is 4 stroke right ?
It just don't have enough power (torque).
I done same thing on my Virago 125 couple years back. I lost max speed, and acceleration but i gained 10km/h in cruise speed.
If you want top speed, by 250cc and then experiment with sprockets.
elmuerteyu 2 years ago
@boyzpiyush you will not get a simple 4 stroke 125cc to go much faster than 110 kph...
theoriginaldimi 1 year ago
@boyzpiyush
You bike does not have enough power and torque for such modification, so don;t do it.
I tried sprocket mod 2-3 years ago on my virago 125cc.
It is waste of money !

Hey where did buy the sprocket and chain.

hey man a few questions,
did you loose top speed with the change? or a little of aceleration??
I have an Honda Shadow 750 American Classic 98, do you know if a could made the same modification??
sorry for my bad english,
Thanks from Argentina!
