I'm still new to Synfig. I know it's been awhile since you've made this, but hopefully you can answer this question:
I'm looking at the .sif file and I can see how you increased the width of the vertexes on the bline path to "draw" the handwriting. Is there a way to interpolate this automatically, or did you modify each vertex width value individually?

I used a program called 'synfig' that I also help develop. It's pretty cool, and it's also free software, meaning that anyone can get it, use it, change it, and share it. See the link in the description.
I have just added a link to some Synfig tutorials in the description of this video. Also, there is a link to the handwriting.sif file that I used to make this animation, so you can download it and view it in Synfig to see how I made it.

The sif format isn't proprietary, it's the format used by synfig studio, which is free software.
synfig studio is an animation package. its whole purpose is to make animations from sif files.
I think you've got things a little backwards. 'mov' is the proprietary format. I think I rendered the .sif file to .avi format in this case.
