Amazing how many elitist anime fans don't like Robotech because it was a chopped and screwed mix of different anime. And while that may be true, they ignore the fact that Macek made the mix WORK. Without the success of what was done here, I doubt you'd have your 10 FPS Naruto and other crap to fawn over now.

not making fun but Macross' Intro was better .It captured the ability of the Mecha "Valkyrie" and showed the power of the SDF Macross. I guess that's why HG used it when they put Robotech on their rematsterd DVD....

I was only 5 when I watched Robotech in its original run on TV. I was a casual fan, but couldn't grasp a lot of it. I do have very vivid memories of certain episodes though...

I got into it a LOT more just 3 years later, when I started getting the VHS tapes, toys and comic books.

Watching this intro now still gives me a nerdgasm. The animation, sound effects, mecha and character designs...FUCK ME, it's good.

I was just noticing the differences between this intro (old school one) and the more current one on streaming Netflix. I prefer the older one. I get more of a feeling of the multigenerational nature of the story, while the newer one seems to focus on each of the "eras" the story is going through. (Plus I think the sound of the motor bikes revving just kicks major ass.)

I realise some of the changes he made to the series in order to bring it to the American audience weren't popular with hardcore Macross fans but I think they were nessessary. Transformers made for cool toys and now awesome cgi effects, but they the story line has been poor from the start. I mean really the series would have been over as quickly as it started if only megatron had allowed starscream to blast the offline autobots.

This show along with Grandizer,Guyking,Voltron,Tran­zor Z, Star Blazers and G Force was the reason why alot of the Transformer phenomenon never really spiked my interest. These cartoons had story lines and were revolutionary when it came to imagination.

"Back in the Days" cartoons inspired you and were captivating. From the ghetto to the Marines I went , I always wanted to fly the Harrier Jet or the A10 Thunderbolt...all because of these cartoons.

One aswome show an wish they would show it again on TV. Unlike Transformsers the good and bad both got destroyed which made even better. Not sure but I think Battletech teh board game was based off this show or maybe the show off the game either way played Battletech in high school during lunch and in one combat round my mech had his arm taken off and used as a bat on my mech head destroying my mech. Totoally awsome show. I miss the 80's. :( Some of the best cartoons on TV.

3nd phase (robot phase) : battloid mode

i think this applies to valkyries, alpha, beta and shadow fighters and not the artillery mechas of the second robotech war (the masters) or the cyclones we see in the third robotech war (the new generation).

@lostmeanings It Fighter, Guardian, Battloid for Veritech fighter (Valkyrie), and Veritech Overtank. Destroid have no transformation, and four basic models Mack (big F. gun), Excalibur (assorted cannon and rocket), Spartan(missile launcher), Gladiator (close combat). In the new series the Mack is converting into a shuttle, go figure. Shadow are the same as Alpha or Beta except in for the "head" and the technology serounding Shadow (wich you dont see or hear about in the newer serie)

Me too, I just hope they don't goof it up! I think as long as they treat it seriously, remain faithful to the original and don't take liberties with the story beyond whats necessary for the brevity of a feature length movie, they can't go too wrong... I guess a lot depends on casting too.
