I remember him pinning Mike Washington in the 83 state finals in 36 seconds at 136 pounds. Pat Smith was going to be better than John. Leroy was great too.
many complimentary superlatives could be used to describe John Smiths incredible wrestling abilities> one in particular just came to mind watching him again > not only balance but incredible mat sense, > his opponent is tough as nails, and ALMOST had Smith in very bad position numerous times, but SMITH ALWAYS knew where he was and what he had to do to turn the tables against his opponents seeming advantage. No matter what, no matter how wild the scramble, Smith just always WINS !
The thing about John John is he wasn't overly strong but his technique and balance were off-the-chain incredible! My friend was on that Ok State team.
Anyway, Sanchez was from Nebraska. You have to feel bad for him there because he looked like a good wrestler but everytime he tried something Smith would counter and is incredible balance put Sanchez in trouble.
hell yeah it was, i was at the one with him and ben askrin. i wrestled like 30 somethin matches it was badass! i wrestled some of the toughest kids from wa., idaho, ore., and some from cali.
John Smith was great in High School too. A two time state champ in Oklahoma. He went to our crosstown rival Del City. But in 1981 we won the National Championship and the first seven weights at state. I wonder how much better we would have been if the Smiths had lived a few blocks to the east.M-Dub Bombers!! Back2Back State Champs 07' 08'!!!
smith was ridiculously good. he moved with intention without hesitation. its as if he knew what the other guy was gonna do, and allowed the guy to do it simply for the joy of countering him.
John Smith is the stuff legends are made of.

i hope you die "bigPimpin69". I could probably fuck you up. John smith would leave you with your body parts scrambled on the mat.

john smith would get a single leg take you to the mat and pi you in the cradle in like 3 seconds...including the pin time
