yes EVERYONE smokes weed in bristol and Si John the bass player from the federation wrote the brown paper bag bass line He is awesome Maybe he doesn't smoke but he is the only one
And the rage that ensues when a good enough underground track is handed to the masses when you discovered it ages ago when it was underground.
Then you want to punch your friend in the face because he wasn't into the track when you played it for him but now that it's on the radio, he tries to bring it to you - completely forgetting you ever played it for him.
Check out The Federation. Album: Headspinz. From circa 1997. As I recall, the guy playing bass in Reprazent was a part of that band. The review in NME read: "Does everyone smoke weed in Bristol!?" :-)
this track has been blowing my mind since what seems like forever

One of the reasons they never made it was that the drummer killed himself.

Saw them live, loved it, burned a spliff with the album in my headphones, threw it out my window without regret, go figure.

I saw them on stage in Paris 10 years ago and they were amazing.

I'll never understand why BE was never more popular. They did everything right. Love these tracks!

That's the strange thing about the Bristol sound -
everyone seemed to love it (Breakbeat Era, Portishead, Lamb) - but none really caught fire.
Anyone know where I can find new stuff with the Bristol style?

Of course you must have listened to Roni's main act, right? If not get yourself a copy of New Forms pronto!
I like the way a lot of these stay mostly underground - gives me greater satisfaction when I discover them!
