  • I was there!!!! I cant believe how long ago it was!! We got the only performance of Tommy at this show !!

  • Primus Sucks!!

  • unique this band!!! only one of a kind....got all their cdees, waiting for a new one!

  • damn i remember this show at UCSD PRIMUS SUCKS

  • Probably one of my fave. Primus songs. It's unfortunate they Suck!

  • I've never seen anybody make their instrument seem like such a natural extension of their own body and personality like Claypool has. That's why he's my hero.

  • i love that screech thing!

  • I was THERE awsome show

  • I've said it before, and I'll say it again even though my comment received 7 thumbs down.

    The guitar is too loud.

  • nigga, you're too loud

  • why? if you listen to primus and have to use the word nigga (like your not white) i respect that.

  • lol i wasn't being serious. But I can detect your sarcasm. I respect you for uploading all of frizzle fry. no more hate.

  • Thanks, I'm going to upload the seas of cheese soon. I can't find suck on this.

  • if it's too loud, you're too old.

  • @nyboy010101

    Primus is about the bass..

If you can't hear the bass when Primus is playing, something is wrong.

  • only, you CAN hear the bass..

  • @aBassist111 it's funny, I have this DVD, and it sounds AWESOME when I play that, perhaps teh sound doesn't transfer to Youtube? tell ya what, I'll rip it and upload my copy and see if it's better..if it is, I'll post the link to your channel :D

  • @lucidshadows666

This looks like straight live footage...is it a bootleg dvd? if so, please post!

  • @nyboy010101

yeah, it's a bootleg..if you know how use torrents, it's available..I could post it, tho not for a few days as I'm going on a vaca..it'll be alotta uploading too..YOU'LL OWE ME lol

  • @lucidshadows666 dude...I just got videoplasty, and seeing as there are only 3 vids from it, i took the liberty of posting it up..so I'll do that, and we'll call it even? lol

  • @aBassist111 I disagree, sure the bass is really prominent, but the guitar is one of the main things that makes Primus, Primus. Stick traditional, conventional guitar licks with Les's bass playing and you'd find the overall Primus sound would not be there. Larry using all those dissonant, chromatic runs and weird tones makes the overall tone colour and sound of Primus.

  • Is this the 2006 SD show where they played Frizzle Fry in its entirety? If so, I was there (they did play a few 'Seas of Cheese' songs, as well). One thing I do remember is that Larry's guitar was so ear-piercingly loud and trebly, that I almost could not take it. Then, he put down his PRS and picked up a LP and set the PUs to treble mode. I thought my ears were going to pop. It was an awesome show, though. Well worth the $40.

  • no hace mucho q escucho esta banda.. pero me sorprende!! MUY BUENA!!

  • It's amazing how Claypool can sing and play these licks at the same time.

  • I know, for reals. I can barely play them, let alone sing.

  • 1:25

hahah omg soo scary, he turns his head and looks DIRECTLY at the camera with that creepy mask on. gahh les is so cool....

  • lol to me wooten is a million times better a player, but on a nice relaxing day, Ide rather crack a beer and listen to primus with my friends then listen to wooten any time.

  • Yes sir! Yes sir!

    I loves this song.

  • jajajajajajajajajajajajajjajajajajajaj

  • "YOU AIN'T GOT NO HORNS BOY!!!"

  • anyone know whatever happened to Huth and Lane?

  • Huth has been here and there for years and Jay Lane is one of the original members of Ratdog and is still playing with them.

  • I was at this very show !!!

..Love this tune it commands you to do a jig!

  • hahaha i was thinking the same thing

  • coming from a bassplayer...haha...it adds power to THIS particular performance. maybe a tad loud. but all in all, appropriate.

  • wow! they are amazing live!

  • Even before they were sausage(Les, Todd Huth, Jay Lane), they were Primate i believe in 1984 and became primus writing and playing most of the songs live that you hear on the first live album in 1989, "Suck on This".

  • what is the primus song that goes... dega-de-ge-de-derga-doo-dega-de-ge-de-dega-doo

  • Pretty much every other song.

  • hamburger train. Its off of the album titled "pork soda"

  • I wonder why I got thumbed down on all my comments. My argument was in favor of Les. Whatever. PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!!

  • PRIMUS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! WOO!

  • its not their solgan anymore^^

  • thats why im a hardcore fan?!?!?!?!?!durrrr

  • Les is the best entertainer on the planet

  • Your right herkaleez2002. Lets just enjoy!

  • can't we all just SUCK ?!!!!! like Primus does. unless you plan on copying any of the styles just kick back and enjoy. everyone's got opinions and a-holes but let's just watch the video and SUCK !!!

  • Fuck yeh man, i like that comment

  • Oh sorry mrsteve123 didn't know this means that much to you. But thats what i heard from a lot of friends that do play. But i agree with Marksiregar you can't compair the two.

  • Wow lots of hate here. But Burton mostly used a pick. Claypool does slap pop an tapping. An i feel the bass should not be played with a pick at all. So let the bashing start i can take it.

  • Cliff hardly ever used a pick, none the less he is still an average bass player, and not even in the same tier as Les.

  • Burton didn't use a pick

    look it up

  • bass shouldnt be played with a pick

    and there both good

i mean look how fast cliff played and stuff hes not average

average would be some retard from an emo band playing two notes to make up a riff

look at some of the tabs for claypool hes good but neither of them are pastorious or wooten

  • Bass was invented to be used with a pick. Other styles were invented after that. It all depends on what kind of tone you want to achieve. Cliff Burton was a shitty bass player. Pastorius was okay. Wooten is like the Rodney Mullen of bass playing. (any skateboarders will know what I mean) He's just too good. I honestly hate Victor Wooten's playing style. Colonel Claypool is the bast bass player alive right now.

  • OK dude your a spaz,

so anything i say will go mute to you,

Pastorius was voted "The Greatest Bass Player Who Has Ever Lived" by reader submissions in Bass Guitar magazine.

cliff wasnt a shitty bass player look at anesthesia and seeing as how he wrote mostly all of ride.i can see the metaphor between Wooten and Mullen, and it kinda

  • The three of them are just so awesome together, I wish they'd tour again =(

  • metallica's frontman was always too proud of his music and himself to accept someone like les.But i think it's a good thing that it didn't happen.Primus Sucks!

  • i always play that middle bit around 2:30 on drums, it's so easy and fun to mess with

  • its me or larry is more fat

  • why doesn't les use a wireless system?

  • this music is like good sex. do you use wireless when you're with your babe? ;)

  • does that make sense?

  • Not a large enough Venue.

  • Because cables sound better

  • Les tried auditioned to replace Cliff Burton but was rejected by Metallica.

  • only reason for his rejection. he was just too damn good.

  • ya i was watching an interview on it and james even said les was too good so they didnt want him

  • lets look at it this way. Could Burton play this song or tommy the cat. No, therego he is not better.

  • yes he could idiot

    i can play those

    claypool is obviously good

    but burton is also good

    you retard

  • So your obviously familiar with Burtons pop and slap work and tapping?

You complete fucktard. He doesn't use those styles. So at least know what your talking about before you act "know it all".

Like seriously your stupidity astounds me.

So could you kindly direct me to a Burton pop and slap solo? Since the WHOLE of tommy the cat is pop/slap/flamenco. Oh flamenco another style Burton doesn't use. Fail on your part.

Don't bother replying your a waste of time.

  • burton used slap in anesthesia

and obviously he could play them wat do you take him for some emo retard with a pick and one strong finger on his left hand

nice name BTW im sure your a hit with the ladies

    look it up Dumass

so you don't talk shit before you actually know stuff

  • No Burton didn't use slap. Do you even play a fucking bass.. do you even know what slap bass is? I have the fucking sheet music for it and believe you me its not in it so stop lying to try and support your point.

Do not get me wrong by no means am i saying Burton is a shit bass player.. I am saying he could not play songs by Claypool, Pastorius etc. My account name is irrelevant and TBH i don't care what you think of it. I believe its spelled "dumbass", your the one who knows nothing

  • dumass isnt in the dictionary so i can spell it anyway i want

and yes burton did use slap on (pulling teeth) i do play bass actually and i have a jaco pastorious copy thank you very much

why would i be talking about slap bass if i didnt know what it was he didnt use slap for the whole solo but he uses it know and again in the middle part

and burton must be better than claypool who is a good bassist because he auditioned for metalica and got rejected

burton is awesome so is claypool u R not!

  • I'm tired of coming to this video, its entirely opinionated. Reason that Claypool was rejected is because he didn't fit their music style and not because he was worse than Burton. Sure it was Hetfield who joked that he was "too good". As it goes for pulling teeth, I'm sure there isn't but i may be wrong, i guess i'll go and look at the sheet again and besides just because he uses it a few times doesn't mean he can slap a whole song and by no means did i say i was awesome.

  • Les Claypool is god. Also the 2006 tour I noticed Primus has gotten a lot more jammy, which is totally psychedelic and to say the least, AWESOME!

  • I love how they have been through like 7 guitarists and they still have the same sound that they had in the 80s and 90s.

  • your fuckin dumb

  • yeah they had larry lalonde first, then some other guy then larry again.

  • Larry is the only guitarist Primus has recorded with. You must be thinking about Herb, who was gone for a couple of albums in the middle.

  • no they had another guitarist apparently. todd huth, thats his name.

  • Huth never recorded an album. He was gone before Primus. They did release as "Sausage" some of the stuff that they had recorded prior though.

  • Huth WAS the original guitarist before Primus made it big. He may not have recorded with them, but he was there. Sausage is actually the original Primus lineup. They got back together and changed the name to Sausage.

  • Metallica didn't choose Les as the new bass player because he was too good. Ask Kirk Hammet, Lars, or James. I rest my case. Also watch "Primus: Master of Puppets intro".

  • dude you are contradicting yourself so much,

i know they said taht as a joke but its true too its because he had a different style of music in mind witch is obvious,

just cos Claypool is up a your pedistol doesn't mean he can play the best.

maybe you should take some time out an look at some really good bassists then come back.

and any 13 year old idiot who comments me on this saying claypool is best,

claypool knows about other bassists and will probly slap u himself

  • When did I contradict myself? Please, tell me. Do you even know what contradict means?

  • you said wooten is too good then you said you hate his playing style

  • He's so good that I find him boring.

  • yet you don't find Claypool boring because he is not as good as Wooten then. aswell as a lot of other bass players,

    also you probably have add

  • Les is a god among bass players. I bass that solely on creativity. Wooten is amazing, he's just not that creative. He hasn't brought anything new to bass playing. Larry Graham was doing the same stuff 20 years before Wooten even picked up a bass guitar. Les pretty much invented the flamenco strum. And yes, I have ADD. Why should that matter?

  • les is a god amoung 13 year olds like you,

falmenco strumming was not invented by claypool

stanley clarke was using the flamernco strum back in the seventees,

wooten was the first bassist to win bassplayer of theyear more than once, he won it three years running.

and creativley les isnt so good (slap, slap, slap, pop, pop, slap, pop)

    (tap,lefthandtap,tap,lefhandtap,tap)

and thatwas invented by other people before les anyway

  • Dude, I'm 16. Just shut the fuck up. You're only proving my point even more. I already know Victor Wooten is way too good. Les Claypool has like 4 different bands as well as working with other. He can play just about anything that has four strings. He plays a fucking whamola. Who the fuck plays a whamola? Les Claypool does. His creativity is amazing. He plays upright bass as well. Stanley Clark didn't do flamenco that much either.....

  • Les really brought that to the forefront of bass playing. Clark is amazing at upright though. He's such a badass on that thing. And I'm gonna ask you again. Why should it matter that I have ADD? It's a common thing among people my age.

  • i dunno lots of people have it its just funny,

compared to some other bass players weve talked about les just isnt as good as technically or creatively ofcoruse hes goodbut othes are better.

whamolo isnt so hard to play really

  • Les is the best there is without being Vic Wooten. We established this already. Vic is too good. It's just boring watching him. End of discussion. Les Claypool kills everybody.

  • how is wooten boring? i just dont see that one

i can play all of claypools stuff and so can anyone else whose been playing bass long enough.

there are thosands of people out there maybe millions who are better than claypool just because hes famous doesnt mean he's the best.

  • No. Claypool is the best. Just shut the fuck up.

  • dude your a idiot,

    claypool isnt the best.

your lack of knowledge makes me laugh.

  • Your lack of a dick makes me laugh.

Just shut the fuck up. You don't know anything.

  • i dont know anything you make me laugh insolent child

your choosing claypool becuase you like cool sounding music not on musical ability

seriously think about it for a second hes not the best bassist ever.

you are however the most annoying

  • I's rather listen to cool sounding music than shitty sounding music. Get your blown out vagina out of here.

  • dude would i be on this video if i didn't like primus

hes good but hes not the best

can you not get that through your skull.

    you make me laugh

  • Suck a dick and get the fuck out. I don't want to see you and your 5 mile long pussy lips.

  • no argument left

    i win

  • lol no i do

  • I wouldnt say that everyone can play like les just after playing bass for awhile + wooten is unimaginably great but still i find claypool more interesting! Besides the impressive part of songs is writing them and having the creativity to even think about taking the song in that direction and thats why he's so great!

  • thats fair enough, =]

he is still amazing but hes not the best.

i would prefer to listen to primus than wooten as well.

my only qualm was that les isn't the superlative if bass playing

  • very true He's not the best but then again put in his very own word "Its just a matter of opinion" :-D peace out dude!

  • I would love to see Wooten singing like that and playing bass at the same time.

  • i kno besides claypool is just alot more interesting!

  • I agree. Wooten is amazing but Claypool is a god

  • Hey shit face, don't call people dumb when can't even spell it.

Cliff nothing special and way overrated, get over it.

    Idiot.

  • Name a better bassist!

  • The only true answer, there is none bass player (my opinion).

  • fleas fuckin good

  • my friend anthony looks like les claypool with the mask on but anthony is naturally like that

  • PRIMUS WILL ALWAYS SUCK THE BEST!!!!

  • its only funny when you scream rape in a public location

  • I was there. Good damn show.

  • damn lucky!

  • COME TO LONDON DAMMIT

  • Who's playing the drums? Is that Herb?

  • Yep, brain left in 2000 i think

  • bought the Death Metal Demo for like $25 by Possessed like 3 years ago....

As for Primus. This is my favorite Primus song.

  • the fact that les can play really techy bass and sing and not miss a note its godly

    i praze you les

  • they get better and better!!!

  • So much Ler... its orgasmic

  • It's quite good for an unoficial live video

  • 初っ端の奇声からしてスゴイ

  • you, are, just a bit like me, i said, RIGHT. lol

  • you all

  • FIIIIREEE IN THE HOOOOLEEEEE!!!!

  • this i think, is me favourite primus performance

  • I was there front row, was waiting there at UCSD 4 hours before doors opened, and let me tell you it was worth it. I started out mid section between Les and Ler and glided slowly more towards Ler by the end. Great show! I think this was the opening song.

  • Larry is using a Les Paul!

    :D

  • effing awesome..I saw them in Boston Back in 05.. the original line-up of herb, Ler and Les.. they covered the entire Seas of Cheese album.. best concert I had ever been to!

  • Hey I saw the guy who filmed this how funny is that?

  • haha kool

  • I was there !!! lers tone was great that night !

  • What section were you at?

  • saw them in chicago on this tour amazing show and the large astronauts were fuckin crazy

  • I've never seen Ler play with an LP before. In all the performances i've seen, he uses his PRS or Fender (long time ago).

  • nice eye. i dont pay much attion to him cuz i play the bass so i look more at les. but u r right tho he manly plays on the PRS right?

  • yup. it's always the same one. a yellowish PRS.

  • yh les is alot cooler to look at anyway (i play bass too)

  • best sgt. baker performance i've seen. RIDICULOUS.

  • THEY'RE FUCKING GODS!!!!!!!!!

  • god i wish i can play like les...and i want his bass

  • shouldn't this song be called sgt hartman?

  • that screech before the marching riff rules

  • for crying out loud, look at Ler's technique on this song. He is the most underrated guitarist I've ever heard.

  • Agreed

  • I like Claypools style. He allways looks cool in his clothes

  • Anyone ever see A Clockwork Orange?

    Les = Alex.

  • Time for a bit of the old ultra-violence.

  • I like the A Clockwork Orange reference lol

  • ya ive seen the movie its kick ass time for some in and out

  • awh yea

  • Les Scares the Hell out of me when he wears that mask!

  • i laugh every time i hear that whistle..Claypool for president

  • les can play that bass like its second nature

  • no,first nature, like breathing

  • Left....right....left....right.right.

  • i like that mask

  • his whistle impression in the beginning mixed with his mask is actually pretty scary

  • btw, why is there a cage around time alexander?

  • its a drum shield. like a big plexiglass board that goesin front of the drums to make em sound good

  • I love that he imitated the sound of a whistle by making a screaming/purring noise.

  • absolutely flawless

  • Yeah that was a great show.
