  • @nbsrfan...Thanks for the video.

  • where is this track?? OCS territory I guess with the guy issuing out work clearance for the plow.

  • @visla84 Yes this OCS territory. This is in New Brunswick, Canada. It was originally a CP line.

  • Is it in NB Canada?

  • @Nennine It sure is. This train originated in Saint John.

  • Pretty sweet video I've always wanted to see them going at speed before with a Jordan Spreader or Snow plow.

  • 6:05 -- Nearby snowplow driver: "What the shit, I just plowed that!!!"

  • Great video Dave...thanks for sharing!

  • Enjoyed that very much. Thank you. Do more

  • has anybody ever forgot to raise the body at a grade xing. what does it do if you dont

  • FUCKING GOOOOD

  • that train not even trying its like

"yo dude can u get me harder snow to blow this snow tooo easy"

  • looks like a tugboat on wheels

  • Great video of a working snow train, especially the crossings. I actually did not know that that particular line, lifted the front flange like that just before the crossings. Will we see more of these from you? Hope so ! Thank you very much!

  • now they have to go back and plow the road and also that thing is flying

  • now they have to go back and plow the road

  • quite fascinating. thx for posting.

  • Would have loved to have gotten some video of this snow plow from the cab of the plow, going thru a nice deep cut thats full of snow right on up over the limit of the plow.

  • круто!

  • круто!

  • cool

  • is it me or does he raise the plow when he nears the road crossing's?

  • @braduh1

He does, because he doesn't want to plow the road itself.

Remember the tracks are sunk into the road itself.

  • How come they use such a huge plow? I thought they just used one mounted on the trains themselves :S

  • @The1jzSoarer

The reason for the large plow, is so it can better handle deep snow, and snow drifts.

And while the small plows on the normal trains are very nice, they are limited to how much they can handle.

  • Sweet

  • Ha! That's awesome! Love it!

  • Super Video.

  • 3:25 to 6:13 was like watching poetry in motion. Wonderful use of the camera angles!

  • I heard a teardrop bell

  • i think the horn means get out of the way!!

  • That sure looked like fun driving through fresh snow - great filming from the vehicle. It was like a speedboat going through real calm water and throwing the spray up from the front. Nice clip - thanks :):):)

  • This is the best snow removal on Youtube for trains.

  • wow ! good video. Thanx.

  • Why just before the intersection the shield rising? avoid damaging to the asphalt ?

  • @IsraeliXdude yes.

  • @captainmorgan757 Thank you for the answer, short yet well constructed :)

  • Incredibly awesome footage!

  • Great video man!

    Awesome plough!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Great composition, and... nice windsock :D

  • Whats the wye? Is the spreader controling the locos

  • Whats the wye?

  • @bearwoodbrown Picture a 3 way intersection forming a triangle.

  • 2317 is a GP38-3

  • Thanks you, Videos very nice,

  • what part of world is this? i honestly dont know

  • @devkhokhar It's in New Brunswick, eastern Canada.

  • @MrDakns thank you

  • 9802 is a GP 35. its shorter and has 3 fans on the rear hood instead of 2

  • @mikeshemi72 Yes 9802 started out as a GP35 but it was upgraded to the specs of a GP38

  • @nbsrfan o ok man... makes sence then that it has the 3800 ebgine. alot of rail roads re named things. like the SDL 39. wisconsin central used to have 4 of them i think. i remember them when i was little. Where is the nbsr located. i have never heard of it. Canada obviously by the crossbucks. CN runs a big russel plow through here. that beast really throws the snow.

  • @nbsrfan How is the GP38 an upgrade from the GP35? 500 less horsepower..

  • @danwat1234 My apologies for using a wrong word. You already know more about it than I do. Can you fill me in with all you know about these "spec" changes? I can't get over how many people have to make a big deal about what these engines are or are not...

  • @nbsrfan oh no no I'm not expert. I bet you know more than I do. I just don't understand the naming scheme.. I mean I suppose '38' could be because it is a newer design than the '35' but not necessarily superior in power to the '35'.

  • @danwat1234

Yes, but you get newer electronics and none of those miserable electronics bugs that made the GP35 disappear from service so quickly. Even while GP38's built only a few years later continue on in every day service and carry a high price tag on the used market.

  • @nbsrfan I'll back you up on this one man, Basicly they upgraded the standard prime mover (EMD567B) with parts from an emd 645B The outer appearance doesnt change but the specifiications do, So yes it is an "upgrade".

  • @meguell3 Thank you!!

  • @nbsrfan You are most certainly welcome sir.

  • exelente.felicitaciones!

  • nice video

  • how does the front train/plow work?

  • It looks like a yacht! Amazing... Great vid work too.

  • Great video! First time I've seen snow plow trains in action.

  • Fabulous!!

    Thanks for posting it!

  • amazing, great footage, the physics involved with this amaze me

  • nice thanks for posting

  • Why not mount a big flame thrower on the front of a locomotive instead ?

  • New Brunswick.

  • WOW!! This is something that I can never see in Hong Kong.

  • how do they keep the train on the tracks?

  • Awesome video! I've always wanted to catch one of these. Feel free to check out my channel, I only need 10 subs. to reach 200 lol

  • the pacing shots are sweet!

  • Nice video!

    Best regards!

    Joaco, from Argentina

  • They were honking "Get a life !"

  • @campolicejeff funny how you say that while your life its self is probally a living hell and you bag on us for likeing trains but your hobby is being a ass and calling railfans gay or say "GET A LIFE " .... do us all a favor and just stfu

  • Die hard railfan out gettin these shots!!! Thanks!

  • great video :):):)

  • fucking good video man..¡¡¡¡ the power of the train`s is awesome and beauty...

  • prety sweet video man

  • I've seen a lot of railroad snow plow videos and this is one of the best.

  • Looks like a fun gig! How fast was the plow travelling at, say, 4:50? Nice driving, on your part, mate!

  • That they dont run of the tracks.

    Amazing!

  • Impressive!

  • #9802 is a GP35, not a GP38.

  • @Vermont204 LOL?

  • @Vermont204 Yes it may have been in it's day but when it was refurbished for NBSR it's running with the specs of a GP38. All of their power is like this

  • Thanks for the video! Interesting! I am working on the railroad in Russia, we like.

  • Hahah - that's awesome!

  • My son (3 yo) loved this video. Thanks for posting!

  • Super Great video !

  • Well done video. Nice camera work!

  • NICE HORN!!!!!!!!

  • are both engines pushing the plow?

  • You have some serious snow in Canada.

  • Really cool!

  • I just noticed you were in Canada when i saw that Canada post mail box. Your video detail confirms it, NB.

  • Wow it really goes fast!

  • viva las estadas de unitas

  • @nbsrfan Does the lead train Drive or is it being pushed by the back two?

  • @stihlthebest It's being pushed by the locomotives. The spreader does have a motor running, but it's for the hydrolics of the spreader.

  • Ganz genial gefilmt! :) sieht supper aus, gread jop

  • awesome!!!!!!!!

  • wow. cool. where is this from. looks like a hell of a lot of snow.

  • cool video

  • Great video !

  • PIKNIE

  • wow!!

  • The heat is on, on the railtracks !

  • The second unit looked to be a GP 35 not a 38 Steve

  • Thanks! We don't see this in Florida very often! (AT ALL!)

  • aint that the truth

  • no poland

  • is this snowplow or Jordan Spreader???

In Poland we only use "snowplow"

  • jordan spreader. it is commonly used on lighter snow falls and very effective. why not use your equipment all year round, yes? :)

  • Great video!!! Excellent camera work.I had never seen so much snow !!! Looks like a ship at sea.

    Regards from Argentina

  • Wow. Great stuff.

  • First thought I had ,If we ever get high speed rail in Central Canada, how are we going to plow the snow.2jet train locomotives pushing a simular spreader at 135 miles per Hour?!!!!!!!?

  • that would be a fun job

  • Thanks for shooting this vid. Love the camera work. Two thumbs up!

  • Great video! Thank you, nbsr.

    Why lift the plow?

It does not go below the railhead, does it?

But you also show how the plow on the engine also catches missed snow.

  • Yes, the plow nose does go below the railhead. That's why they lift it at highway crossings and at track switches ("points" to the Brits). Great video !!

  • Why go below the railhead?

They would have to lift the plow also for guard rails on bridges or sharp curves, too.

My biggest concern is flangeways at gradecrossings.

Ice in a flangeway derailed a locomotive at a rural gradecrossing north of Denver, Colorado, last year.

Either I would have traversed that crossing very slowly, or gotten out and cleared the flangeways with a pick or something.

Instead they put their engine into a ditch at 60 degrees. Lucky it did not go onto its side.

  • They try to keep the gauge free of snow so that doesn't turn to ice as you mentioned. I can't speak for this situation, but often RR maintenance crews are out ahead of the plow to check crossings for the very things/fears you have mentioned.

  • The snow plows on the engines are fixed and stay well above the rail head. The spreader gets down in between because the snow between the rails if left can turn to ice and cause tons of issues.....

  • that explains why the operator raises the blade just before going over the crossing

  • Wow sometimes it looks like a ship in the sea.

  • Hehehe, when i watch this... Dutch epic fail!

    - Switches frozen cuz we use gasheaters

    - 2cm of snow = train fail

Lol i feel kinda ashamed myself by seeing this.. Time to emigrate ! XD

Though awesome stuff to see ^^ opens eyes to more stuff in the world

    Cheers

  • Absolutely Wonderful . this is what Railroading is all about ! , it does not get any better with a Video Camera than this . Thank You .

  • us in england come to a stand still after inch of snow you people put shame on our services well done

  • @kezmj Well it's the same way in Texas and southern states where it rarely snows as oppose to Northern states in US. It's not snow, but in Los Angelos, traffic comes to a halt or "slows" down when it rains. LA citizens are not used to rain as it accumulates very little throughout the year. Anyone from LA might agree, lol

  • Awesome video!

  • awesome vid, thanks for posting!

  • That's wonderful, perfect fiming...........

  • funny you read some of these ppl think thats alot of snow thats just a lil drooping fuck i miss home

  • Fantastic video!

  • wow, mai vista una cosa così,in italia poi....

  • I wish there was 10 times the snow for the train to plow. That would be cool to see!

  • look for donner pass snow videos! :)

  • talk about dashing thru the snow on a 10,000 hp sleigh!

  • ummmmm just 4,000 hp. :) GP-38s are only 2,000 a piece.

  • super. Excellent video. :)

  • This is something you don't see everyday. Thanks for posting this, I enjoyed watching. :)

  • great job with the vid ..... what state is this?

@NBSRFAN - Thanks for making this and please make more. We love them!

  • Would love to see a train plowing snow like that in my town. Never have seen it in person. I love trains and that video is awesome.

  • what is that thing that they have

  • its called a jordan spreader

  • cant believe i missed subscibing to you all these years - just about the prettiest thing i can remember seeing them SDs plowing that virgin snowfall with an inch an hour coming down --@5:24 they raised the plow ?

  • they raise the plow at switches, bridges, and crossing so they dont get the blades caught what between the rails. thats what that sign thats black background with white dots on CN and the oppisite on CP mean.

  • gosh darn it ! i felt like pettycoat junction ! DAMN this video gives me the warm feelins for this sort of culture ! EXCELLENT VIDEO !

  • Emeğinize,Elinize Sağlık.Saygılar.

  • 5***** and favorite, i'm hoping to get some shots like this soon here on the ONR

  • awesome vid. Keep up the good work.

  • Fantastic vid...especially pacing shot of the plow in motion !!!

I do alot of train chasing in the midwest and I have never seen a plow extra in use.
