  • this is super awesome!! ive been playing flute since the 5th grade. im getting better. what the heck is circular breathing!!!!????? i heard this song for the first time at Blue Lake!!

  • love your temperament, your musical ideas and your interpretation in general! nice job!

  • 2:50 SERIOUS CIRCULAR BREATHING

  • HOLY MOLY this song sounds impossible!

  • How to make it? "Chords in the flute"

  • @PresunCello um it's called polyphonics. It's incredibly hard to do -__- ka;sldfjk in my belief i think you have to divert your air in different areas to make that partial sound..

  • 0:25-29 sounds a little bit like the show goes on just a little bit though......

  • man! perfect perfomance of this piece!

    gratulations

  • We saw you perform this at the Kennedy Center in Washington -- simply fantastic.

  • I play the flute, but after watching this I feel that maybe I'm even more average than I thought I was!

By the way, what's circular breathing ?

  • @HeatherBradbury96 yeah i always feel like that.

  • Ian Clarke is a very cool composer and you're a very good flautist!

  • Thank you so much for coming to WBHS !!! You were amazing! It was great to hear such amazing flute playing!! :) Come again someday!

  • Love this piece, man! You came to WBHS on Jan. 19, didn't you?

  • @Skinker

    yep :)

  • @shurikh Thanks a bunch for talking to us and performing. I really enjoyed it.

I was pretty surprised to see that you had commented back, too.

  • This actually made me cry!

It's perfect in every possible meaning of the word!

  • This man is a god at the flute.

  • this is my favourite rendition of this piece on youtube!

  • how did you learn the fingerings for the multiphonics?

  • That was awesome! The only thing I would say I didn't like is how far down the flute is on the face. But wow I wish I could circular breathe!

  • Terrific! Do you use circular breathing only on the long trill or do you use it other places as well?

  • Terrific! Do you use circular breathing only on the long trill or do you use it other places as well?

  • Well done I love this piece and you played it awesomely. It's my aim to be able to play this but I just don't seem to be able to master circular breathing you've clearly got it down to an art. :)

  • this song was played at my school's summer concert today by a year 7 and it was PHENOMENAL!

  • as a flute player myself...i have to say...i really like the exaggerations you put in the music and how you can really hear the multiphonics!

it really sounds like a train! love it!

Do you have anything that could help me prepare to play this piece in the future??

  • Cool I'm playing this

  • Circular breathing is soo hard how do you do it??????

  • through the trill, you can hear someone sniffing? its actually him breahing in through his nose, whilst using the air that is contained in in his mouth to keep playing :) its really difficult though, because if you try to play the flute whilst stopping any air coming up from your lungs, its difficult to get a proper note out, let alone sustain it long enough to breathe through your nose.

  • @darlingtonflute aka Circular Breathing :)

  • @creole2kiss yeahh, the person before me asked what circular breathing was, so I was just explaining :) love this piece :D

  • Very nice. Hope to get as good as you.

  • wow this actually sounds like a train!!! ian clarke is a legend. the first time i heard maya i cried. circular breathing is impossible btw!!! then again i don't play the flute...:)

this flute player is scarily good!!!!

  • @TheWuzzy i play the flute and i heard sombody play this at band camp and i was in shock cuz it was soooo amazing!!!! :)))

  • coooooooooooooool

  • Best performance of this I've heard yet! Great job

  • I is loving it.

  • WOW! wish i could do that!

  • Amazing...

I don't get how anyone can circular breathe.. I've tried it, and I just can't do it XP

  • @LonelyHeartz2 what is circular breathing?

  • circular breathing is when you breathe in through your nose while you simultaneously breathe out your mouth. That way there aren't any extra breaths that interrupt whatever it is your playing. It's hard though :/

  • You basically store small amounts of air slowly in your cheeks as you blow out, then you inhale through your nose while pressing the air out between your cheeks. It's already difficult enough, but on the flute, it's even harder because keeping your embouchure while your cheeks are puffed out is nearly impossible for some people.

  • is he doing circular breathing?

  • That's good (:

  • Prekrasno !!!! MALADETZ

  • AMAZING

    xD

    i love it

    :)

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!! This is amazing! I have goosebumps all over me! Wooow! You're awesome! I'm playing this piece next year!

  • its so cool how it sounds like hes playing two notes at once.

  • he is playing two notes at once at times.

  • its called multi-phonics

  • He is playing one and singing another.

  • well not everywhere...there are plenty multiphonics - key combinations where you can get at least 2 notes at the same time...

  • Not so many though. Most of them are sung and played. (I've seen the score for this. It's a friend of mine's audition piece)

  • that is stuning

  • Why was there a trill that lasted like half a minute?

  • It is written in the music. On this trill you have to use circular breathing, it could be as long as you want.

  • you can circular breath with a flute too? i thought you can only use that with clarinet.

  • circular breathing can be done on any wind instrument. it's considerably harder to do so on the flute, cuz air flows more easily through the flute mouthpiece than say clarinet or oboe.

  • yea this guy does it for like 46 mins on a world record with a soprano sax

  • Really gd !

    :)

  • It isn't as hard as it sounds you have special fingerings to learn and you sing into the flute for some of it.

  • it's more about breathing and tonguing

  • yeah :o I play flute and to play it really fast is kinda hard x.x; I would probably pass out if i tried what hes doing xD

  • I dont understand how you make that sound.. it looks like your playing an harmonica..

  • you know what a harmonica looks like.....

  • Шурик, ты это... здорово сыграл, нет слов, но я таких скоростных поездов еще не видал :-))

  • Very GOOD!!!! Wow! I really wanna play this for my Senior Recital....in 4 years......lol

BUT the motons were slightly distracting.....BUT AMAZING PLAYING!

  • AMAZING! Thank you so much. Made my evening!

  • Amazing job with tonguing and circular breathing!

  • Excellent job. :-)

  • I am in awe. you are amazing.

  • you're very expressive

    and that's some sick techniques

  • ooo,ya,great train,wich is the final station? :)

  • amazing performance

  • Really good job!!!! Fantastic!! Where are you studying now??

  • I know ian Clarke .I have worked with his pupils. he s a lovely man

  • that is unearthly and amazing, and I LOVE IT! aw, and the way u smile at the end:) Bravo!

  • Brilliant performance!

  • Great!! A powerful performance. Are you circular breathing? Nice multiphonics!

  • Yes, I do! :)

  • teach meee :)

  • @shurikh like how you danced a bit with the flute.
