I remember seeing this when it first aired and I was sooo mad at Belle for doing that to Shawn. Philip gave her an easy out and she didn't take it because of her guilt. Shawn didn't deserve to be treated like that.

Well in 2004 Shawn left Belle and was in that stupid cage Jane Spears made him be in and when he came back to town Belle was with Phillip and on their wedding day Shawn drove his motorcyle into the church and could have killed Belle,so I believe John was still upset about that.
