The funny thing here is that long before he mentioned the church and was rambling about answers and all that, I immediately thought of LOST. This very second I am up to this speech and I love the little winking nod. Mind. Blown.
Just played this part on Arkham City, thought "Wtf? Was that a joke about lost? Please tell me it is", awesome. Also anyone else notice Jokers camera man laughing at 0:34?
Man, I finished the series just A WEEK before this game came out, so I was still quite obsessed and trying to figure out stuff with Lost. And then this happened!
There's another reference to Lost; if you listen to the various goons around the place, one of them will eventually say "I don't get it. Did they ever explain what the island was all about?"
It didn't end in a church. And it was only set in a church because it was the only way they could hide the scene from being spoiled - as the bomb in the sub, island crumbling, and MIB's death scene.
Theres actually 2 LOST references in the game theres the obvious one during this cut scene, but I was trying to figure out how to do a riddler trophy when that thing you have that lets you hear the thugs talk started playing and I heard one ask another, "so, did they ever find out what the island was?"
Though it is kind of iffy, the fact that I heard it before the jokers reference had me thinking that, seeing how there is already one in it means its plausible this is too. Anyone else find this?
Wasn't Dini one of the Lost writers as well? The network types sure as hell made a big to-do about it when they were selling Tower Prep to the masses.
This actually may not be the only LOST reference in the game. I have picked up guard conversation before where one says to the other something along the lines of "Did they ever reveal what the island was" and another possible reference is a number station you can pick up of the Cryptographic sequencer. (That one im not 100% sure that its a reference but its worth noting)
@UnbreakableVow626 If the finale actually addressed the questions that the entire saga posed and not just some contrived and substitute issue that had been conveniently raised at the beginning of the final series, nobody would ever stop talking about Lost. The show could have been an all-time classic if they had got the finale right. The characters, plot, mythology and actors' performances deserved a far greater conclusion. An almost perfect show destroyed by greed, cowardice and ineptitude.
@TheGlobalPanacea Watch the series again. It was littered with answers. Sure, there wasn't a Matrix Revolutions-style sitdown at the very end that went on forever explaining every minute detail, but answers were everywhere. Watch it again, mind open, comprehension abilities at the ready and you can't miss all of the answers and all of the connections and how the ending was in every way relevant to everything that made Lost Lost.
@Agahnim18 With all due respect, bollocks man. The writers wanted to finish the thing after 2 seasons but extended it to 6 seasons for the money. The ending was a mish-mash of Christian symbolism and makeshift emotional bullshit. The final season was a ruse crafted to pull the wool over the viewers' eyes. All this nonsense about the characters and the relationships is shite that the writers are using to deceive people and the viewers are using to deceive themselves.
@TheGlobalPanacea Complete bullshit, man. The show is owned by ABC, not the writers; the writers had no control over how long Lost would run. It would most likely STILL be on the air if the writers hadn't gone to the network execs and petitioned them for a definitive end date so they could end the story on their terms. The final season was pretty straight-forward. It wasn't a ruse and it didn't deceive anyone. It just wasn't about what you wanted it to be about. Too bad.
@Damon242@MikhailTobias The deceit of the producers of Lost is painfully obvious. As a genuine fan who never missed an episode, I was profoundly disappointed by the finale. I've already outlined my opinion of the finale above, and all I will say to you is this. Look beyond your affection for the series and analyze the finale dispassionately. If you can honestly say that it was in any way befitting of the series of which it is a part, then I must be missing something.
I do everything I do without bullshit. Can't stand bullshit. Something doesn't turn out the way I was expecting? Well, boo hoo. The question I would then have to ask myself: Is how it turned out good or fitting in its own way? With regard to Lost, hell yes (even though it DID turn out mostly how I wanted :P). The final season as a whole was pure Lost. All of the themes, the characters, the plot, the mood all progressed smoothly from The Pilot to The End.
@Agahnim18 I disagree fundamentally and profoundly, but it's only a television show. I'd just like to add that I had no expectations of the finale other than for it to follow in the footsteps of the previous episodes and seasons. Perhaps one day I'll see what the appeal is. Perhaps.
@TheGlobalPanacea I see the flaws of the show overall, but I had seen them in place for many, many years.
However, your allegation that it all for the money, contained makeshift emotional bullshit, was "a ruse crafted to pull the wool over the viewers' eyes", "nonsense about the characters and the relationships", "[ it deceived] people", etc.
What does that all sound like? Someone's opinion. Taste, opinion, all of that stuff; it isn't fact, and you can't pretend that it is either.
@Damon242 I somewhat disagree, but it's only a television show. I'd just like to add that I had no expectations of the finale other than for it to follow in the footsteps of the previous episodes and seasons. Perhaps one day I'll see what the appeal is. Perhaps.
Yeah, the reason why nobody talks about Lost anymore is because the finale undid in about 20 minutes what the best part of 6 seasons painstakingly constructed. Fuck the writers. Fuck 'em right off.
It's worth noting that Paul Dini (Writer for Batman the Animated Series, a lot of the comic books, Arkham Asylum and Arkham City) wrote for LOST too, I think he was a script editor too...
@EddieScissorz I was doing the same thing! I laughed to myself going, "That's almost a LOST reference"...and then it turned out it WAS a Lost reference!!!
Also, somewhere on Batman's frequency detector, you can find someone repeating numbers over and over...
The funny thing here is that long before he mentioned the church and was rambling about answers and all that, I immediately thought of LOST. This very second I am up to this speech and I love the little winking nod. Mind. Blown.
