In my opinion Lew is the best tenor man on the scene today. The guy plays with such creativity, and what's more he has a SOUND. Something sadly lacking on the jazz scene these days.
Did you ever see Monk play? He'd get up and do little dance, spin around. If the music moves you it's not bad to move. Tabackin is a monster on tenor regardless. I'd never miss a chance to see him live. He fills the room with sound with his wonder - unamplified sound.
Ah well, maybe I am too strict. My ideal used to be a jazz musician who remains outwardly impassive but swings like hell, such as Cannonball Adderley or MJQ drummer Connie Kay. But I like your explanation, so thanks!
I am seeing and hearing Lew Tabackin here for the first time. I find his walks slightly irritating, but his playing sounds allright. Now he is more than just a name to me, so thank you for posting.
I find his movement endearing, an indication of how much he is into the misic. I have been listening to him for many years and I think is is one of the significant tenors of our time.

I am so keen on reds by LT since I watched him in 70s/80s.
Great flutist and very good player on tenor sax.
He always is marvelous.

Great!!
I've seen him some twenty yeas before.
This reminds me of the moments.
His sound roared to all over the place in the Japanese rural village.

私は彼のおしゃべりなサックスサウンドです。彼のダンスは、他の後天性の味です。
