  • I've been playing 16 years and I never knew about TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN,TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN, TIGHTEN.... lol

Good video.. very helpful.. well done David..

  • I've been playing for 2 years and I'm just learning this. TIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTENTIGHTEN

  • nope you dont want to bust one when ur playing out live...they didnt come to see that

  • tightening tightening tightening! haha!!! Great video!

  • thanks so much dude, i never knew that about the tuning

  • BORING!

  • so, when its out of tune and the notes to high, you tune it down past the note you want, then tune it back up. yeah?

  • not at all confusing (: you're a brilliant teacher

  • i change my strings everyday...dammit..

  • man u have a beautiful guitar!

  • im very fluent and i learned alot dude...

  • After a good setup there are a lot more preparation than just tuning up to pitch. What about keeping strat in tune with bends and whammy use ?

  • I will tune my guitar, and within a minute it will have gone a note out of tune. It's driving me crazy, can someone help?

  • @dubkaos new strings

  • @dubkaos if you recently change your strings you have to stretch them and then tune again, play it for a while and then tune again.

  • very interesting I never knew there was a difference between tuning in from a sharp or flat position.....I've been playing for years! so not just for beginners.

  • 7 years it took for me to know this..i suck...thanks man great vid!!!

  • you mentioned about wiping the strings.... i have heard some people they wipe the string with ZIPPO lighters oil... is that a good idea to cleanup strings and keep them from rusting?

  • i hve an ibanez n wen i tune it it keeps on going down :/

  • so... can you teach me how to tune my "acoustic guitar"? it said... acoustic so i clicked this video..

  • @TheKongol19 Tuning an acoustic and an Electric are the same thing. Unless your using a floyd rose system, but other than that, its the same

  • ok just a thought

but will putting a capo before the first fret (i forgot what that part is called, its infront of the tuning pegs) help keep the guitar in tune? plz reply fast :)

  • "tightningtightntighntightntgntgn"

  • this is so useless, if you own a smartphone just get a tuning app

  • @Exult it is not useless.. I think you missed the point.

  • thank uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu :-)

  • i love you !! u've helped me more than u can imagine!!

    CHEERS!

  • Ive heard another way to help keep it in tune is kinda stretching the strings??, you put your finger on something like the 10th fret and then get a rag and clean down the string in a slight pull motion.

not sure it if its right i just heard it on a video once

  • oh woah.. i learned something haha thanks

  • Titan titan titan LOL

  • thanks that was helpfull

  • WTF

I must be retarded, this is the first time I noticed tighten and titan are pronounced the same.

  • @almostLiterate lol yea @ 1:40

"u wanna go titan titan titan titan" XD

  • I am glad you put this up because people I was trying to explain this correct way to do this thought I was crazy. Same thing about the acids and oils that your hands transfer to your instrument, and when to replace your strins. Do you have more stuff to learn.

  • Thanks for this one! :)

  • @silverwolfxp27

You probably are "retarted" coz you cant even spell that.

    R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D.

    : )

    Lol

  • i have the exact same tuner...T_T and it never works for me..cause im probably retarted...

  • Great tips!

    Thanks! :-)

  • WHATS UP GOOD PEOPLE!

    that made me lol...

  • ohhhh so thats why my old teacher did tat with my guitar when he passed from the center

  • i need help mi guitar keeps going out of tune i change the strings after that it still going out of tune then i put pencil shaving to see if that would help but its still going out of tune i dont know what to do can someone please help me

  • @XFactor1011 are you stretchnig out your strings when you put knew ones?

  • 5 Stars- Great tip, never knew this :D

  • i never thought about this and i tried it because my low E string wouldn't stay in tune for crap and now it stays in tune!

  • i like sandwhiches

  • whats a good/ normal caliber setting?

    right now its on 447

  • 440

  • i cant believe he left out the most important thing when trying to keep a guitar in tune; stretching your strings. some strings require more or less stretching depending on the brand. elixers for example dont realy need it.

  • when i started tuning my guitar the string broke

  • like he said if you over tune, and then u come down you'll have too much slack and go out of tune as soon as one bend!!! robert johnson said loosen if your too sharp (doesn't have to be a lot like this guy said) then bend the note up and down a few times and that will get rid of the slack. Actually you should do it before you tune up, bend all notes. Cause i've found the strings get slack over night.

  • i jus got a guitar for christmas, but i have no clue how to tune, play a note, or do anything with it!

  • somebody help me....everytime i tune to drop d, the low c string gets out of tune SOO easily. help

  • then drop D ya lil emo

XD jokes, i drop D all the time. Uhh i dunno im not a tuning wiz otherwise i would be watchin this vid :P

  • Hahaha, turns out it was just old strings. And they were Elixers, and not really made for low tunings. Got some Ernie Ball strings and it solved the problem. And I'm definitely not emo lol.

  • @NoobTubre haha ernie ball is the best bro, haha your not emo yet you drop D theres a first

    XD

  • Lol. I just like playing along with stuff. And chords are easy to play when you just bar the the last 3 strings instead of having them spread out ya know.

  • @NoobTubre yer man power chords is all i ever use bro, but im punk rock sooo

  • Yeah, I have been playing Blink 182 alot lately so it is really just power chords, but I do alot of other stuff too. So finding the right strings is a pain.

  • bro yes!! blink is tha bomb there shits so easy to play too love it aswell always good pauses where you can leap into the next chord off your amp or drumkit haha sickk stuff

  • hahaha totally. its easy to play and good to improv on. and drums is extremely fun to play with too

  • this helped me thanks. ^_^

  • I like this dude, he's so enthusiastic about guitars.

  • Well it depends on how often you play, for example, i change my strings every two months

    :)

  • about how often do u guys think i should change my strings, didn't change it till i bought mine on november 08 :P ?

  • they say once every 2-3 months. lol

  • Depends on your strings, the thinner it is, got to change more often it can last less then a month.

  • thanks alot, nice tips

  • Nice Fuckin guitar!!!

  • i love how the headstock matches the pickguard on that strat

  • anyone who dides this vid i wierd coz u did such a great job dude ,rock on!

  • thanks a bunch dude.

  • oh yeah and i need to change my acoustic strings lol

  • WOW i never knew that THANKS MAN!!

  • I'm an amature player. I haden't heard of these tips. good tips, man.

  • That's a very pretty guitar =D

  • take it to a guitar shop and have it checked out

  • thanks so much

  • Floyd Rose:D

  • needeless to say...i do this automatically

  • very great tips!!!

    thanks a bunch

  • What kind of guitar do you have? Get a seagull original S6....great guitar for the money

  • ive been playing for abut 14 years and i never knew these things...thanks a bunch

  • ..................im hella confused!!!!!!! : /

  • i get it!

  • this is soooo confusing!!!

  • do we put the tuner on guitar or bass? on the korg tuner

  • Guitar, Bass would be for a bass guitar.

  • are Kona guitars good?

  • wow this is very helpfull especially since i got the same tuner as yours

  • shit never knew... tightening down then up. all those wasted years... thanks buddy.

  • @SpaceBanaynay I never knew that either. This is cool!

  • Dude you are the best at tuning! I never even heard of tightining then you loosen it because I didn't even ever tune my guitar. But anyway thanks for telling me about that now every now and then I tune my guitar so thanks .

  • ending on a loosen sucks....

  • Word.

  • How much is an electric tuner?

  • they lke 10$ or 20 bucks

  • the only thing i disagree with is new strings.

i dont like them when they are fresh. they gotta get broken into a little bit lol.

  • wow thanks.

  • guys have any idea what i need to do? my guitar gets out of tune after i go to tune the other strings!!! when i tune all of them and immediately come back to the first string i see that its way out of tune!!! plz help me if there is a way!!! i have an old japaneas electric guitar.and i just changed my strings.

  • Try and have it set up by a professional, that will probably get rid of any problems causing it.

  • In other words - Always TUNE UP

starting from a flat reference pitch.

  • tightentightentightentightentighten

DONT END ON A LOOSEN rofl

  • 4:44

he ends on a loosen :D

  • LOL DUDE ur funny!!!

  • tightentightentightentighten

  • could anyone recomend a good elec acoustic guitar for around 200 - 300 dollarS? Thanks

  • Yamaha maybe

  • squire.

..you can find reviews here in youtube..

  • wow thanks for the great tip :)

  • Please explain why most electric guitars including the gibson les paul do not make good sounding chord sounds. They are way off. The G string is way off . Could it be the neck? The sales man will play his licks and it sounds ok but when i try for a nice chord sound say a A or D chord it just sucks. What's wrong? Please . Mabye my ears are too sensitive.

  • Are you saying the tone (sound) is bad or the note is just off?

  • the g string just sounds odd . and causes chords to sound way out of tune. right now I am suspecting the nut. Honestly , I've been trying out guitars at music stores and they all sound our of tune even when after we tune em up? which also makes me think the strings? I put on

D'addario XL LIGHT gage, 24w, ECG25 Flat wound. Gibson electric semi hollow ES 333 used guitar. I really shouldn't of bought it but i did.

  • I honestly can't help you with that. I'm puzzled. SOrry about that though

  • the reason that you think the electric sounds out of tune, or weird, when you strum chords is because it doesn't resonate throughout the body like the acoustic. Solid bodies are solid, not hollow.

  • i dont wont to bust one lolololl

  • Good tip,

    thanks

  • Is there any site or video that shows the name of strings strumming ect. I just got a guitar and I need to learn how to play it

  • exact same tuner cept black

  • can i tune a acoustic guitar with the tuner he is using in the video'

  • yea you can

  • i know i just bought mine 1 month ago and i played it evrday since

  • i can i have the same

  • i have a blow in tuner how do you tune with that please help

  • where do i get a tuner because i can't tune at all for my life !!!!!!!! and what if you play like once every month ? would i need to change my strings ?

  • umm, If you don't play the guitar more than once a month then the strings are going to get tougher and less flexible. and you can get a tuner from just about any guitar or music shop... I would try to play it atleast twice a week, other wise there isn't really a point in wasting 20 dollars on a tuner.. that's just my opinion though...

  • Dude, you need to play your guitar at least 30 minutes every day. You can't play guitar if you only play once a month.

That's why you can't tune- you don't play. Honestly, you need to play more.

If you only plan to play once a month, twice a month, 3 times a month, or even once a week, you should sell your guitar. Honestly, you won't get anywhere.

  • What if he's playing for himself, for fun...is it all about "getting somewhere". I play my guitar whenever I want to! It might be everyday or maybe once a month but I do it for myself.

  • I play guitar purely for the fun and enjoyment of it, but it's an expensive hobby. I don't see the point in spending $150+ on something you're not gonna put your heart into. I mean, a guitar is at least $100, and if you're gonna be spending that much money, why only play it once a month? With the economy like this, you need to spend your money wisely, not waste it on guitar your going to play 12 times a year.

  • And also, when I said 30 minutes a day, I mean, it's not that much time. At least not when you love it so much. And what's the point on spending a bunch of money on something you aren't gonna have time for? Honestly, most people don't have a couple extra $100 bills laying around that they can just spend away on something they aren't gonna have the time and effort for.

I mean, it's a bunch of money- and it's something that's sort of a commitment. I play like 6 hours a day, and it's my life.

  • its not about what you play for, or how much you play compared to anyone else. you both love playing right?

    theres nothin wrong with that

  • cool

  • awesome

  • i'm pretty awesome at guitar (trying to be modist) and i never knew that. I just got an Epiphone les paul custom with bigsby and as soon as he sed put graphite in the nut and tune it like that it stays in tune alot better!!

  • this was helpful

    =]

  • Ok, i play for 2 years and didn't know this neither

  • this was awsome

  • thanks, this helped a lot

  • erm seriously i am a beginner and i cant understand it =,=

  • lol, but it is specialy for beginners

  • meh 2 this is all too weird

  • can you guys do like b or a, i just wanna know, do i need to adjust the truss rod?

  • i like guitars smuthered with your mom

  • Hey if you have locking tuners aren't you suppposed to tune down to pitch?

  • LOL TUNE IN LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • thanks

  • thanks Dave!

  • can you do a tuning segement on drop tunings like D & C

  • i love ur videos!it helps me alot whenver i need help!

  • hey! that's my tuner! good lesson

  • good video - good common sense information that many of us just take for granted ...

  • Tighten tighten tighten tighten tighten LMFAO

  • This is a Valuable lesson People!!!!

  • David says "Tighten" a lot this lesson.

  • its stuck in my head... -.- tighten tighten tighten tighten tighten!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

  • maybe you can listen to AC/DC - Stiff upper lip:D... because they play an A, and you can tune your a string, and then the other by ear....

  • well you cant try tuning a string by matching i to another string of a particular not, for example you can drop c by fretting a string and matching it to the one you desire. look it up

  • haha i have the same tuner, but less....uh.....experienced :P

  • i love ur videos! they really help me! thx a lot!

  • I've used that same method of tuning for many yrs. I didn't know that was the right way.

When I began playing eons ago, there were no guitar tuners, I always till today, use a tuning fork, After I tune to make sure I get it precisely, One way to learn perfect pitch is to memorize the strings open,EADGBE,That was the old method, Well, for me it was. And it sill works, Then I match up the tones going up the fingerboard till the end.

Have more to say on the subject, Another time.

  • i love these videos, so helpful

  • lmfao 4:48 i wanna end there (too far hahahahaha)

  • This is cool. Do you guys give classes personally as well? Dude, I feel like I'm actually in class when I'm watching this. I hope you start teaching out of the Net, if so let me know so I can learn as well :)

  • Check out their website dude, in the video info.

  • Hey David,

Your brother is damn CRAZY!, just dropping in to say that hes an exceptional bassist, and greetings from Panama. Rock On.

All of you should suscribe to the nextlevelguitar page, there some other awesome videos.

  • could you please do a tapping lesson?

  • nice beat up tuner =p

  • you guys should get some bassists to make lessons too that would be awesome

  • please give an advanced lesson licks, scales, anything

  • cool vid

  • David, I would add one point to your excellent lesson. Take your fingers off the turner after you have tightened the string when checking for final tuning. That little bit of finger pressure can give you a slightly false reading.

  • thanks for the tips

I just got my first fixed bridge guitar, after having always having floating bridges / floyd roses..

strangely enough, my floyd roses all stay in tune, and it's the fixed bridge that goes out lol

  • i have that tuner they are so good

  • I have it too

  • Does the string thickness matter?

  • yes, girth is important.
