  • "He believes in the love of his god of all things, but I find him wrapped up in all manner of sins. The drugs that deceive him and the girls who believe him..." <3

  • she remindes me of cassie me off skins

  • yeh i hate music like this, im a rap and rock fan, but she has real pain in her lyrics and i can feel it, she makes my body tingle.

  • @StrangeJady She makes my balls tingle

  • I just found Laura Marling weeks ago (I'm American) and I happy I have. She is very honest with her lyrics and emotion in singing.

  • Laura Marling's music is close to being perfect. I'm so glad I discovered her.

  • You rock!

Best artist I found in a long time. so good that this is the first comment i have left in 5 years

  • @gazstar106 haha 5 years (time) by noah and the whale. thats how i found her

  • get them help. don't fuck around

  • I feel in love with her!

  • beautiful

  • 34 people don't have a maniac

  • All of her videos from the first album are rather scary, aren't they?

  • @Edenstar1

but who doesn't adore this kind of fear? :)

  • She's fantastic.

  • And then I started to cry just a little...

  • Interestingly brilliant, love the querkiness of the video, song is fantastic too!

  • jip everywhere

  • This music is absolutely wonderful and incredibly beautiful. The Video only compliments the music to create a wondrous masterpiece.

  • beautiful.

  • why is it explicit??

  • god i love this song.

  • i must have contributed about 100 views to this video.

  • @Hezvar lol between you an me thats 200 veiws accounted for:)

  • @ShingenDok make that 300 ;)

  • @ShingenDok make that OVER 9000!!!!!

  • I think I just fell in love. Seriously.

  • @SuckMyCurry yeah... i hate the recored version and video with a passion

  • I dearly love Laura Marling but she looks like Courtney Love dressed as Alice from Alice in Wonderland in this one. Sorry! Still love you Laura!! :)

  • wonderfull, many revisits....thanks laura

  • SO incredibly beautiful... I think this may be my favourite song of her's.

  • i wonder what her writing process is for her songs. the lyrics are incredible.

  • I have this friend that says 'Blondes are dumb'. In this situation its like saying 'Ive shagged Jesus'.

  • this is by far her best song! Love it!

  • i love how this song is so personal and can touch a lot of people all in different ways because of how they interpret it :D

  • Its literally undescribable how amazing this song is. She is so young, yet no one could tell by the way and what she sings. Utterly Beautiful

  • this video is actually one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen

  • She is so haunting.. I love it!

  • Laura Marling is amazing.

  • @savageninjaa at this time 17 - amazing talent

  • and birds were singing to calm us down...

  • "He greets me with kisses when good days deceive him . . . " Incredible

I have struggled with terrible depression my whole life, and it has always been difficult for me to understand what it was like for the women I have loved who loved me to be with me . . . this song has come the closest to possibly shedding some light on this. Powerful song

  • Sends lightning bolts up and down my spine. Simply beautiful.

  • her lyrics are fantastic i love the imagery

  • i love this song more then words can express.

  • what a beautiful mind.

  • I love her voice :O It is really folky and clear and her lyrics are amazing (:

  • Good songwriting. She is opening up her vocals on this song, too. It's trendy to be "cute and dark" at the same time. But that's a sign of the times: young people are caught in a dichotomy of enthusiasm and depression over how fucked our world is right now; life seems exuberant and hopeless...indeed, Manic. I feel like she's on to something authentic, which is rare in popular music, and I appreciate her- she's talented!

  • This is the dress alice in wonderland should have worn

  • 2:39 and "he wants to die where nobody can see him/but the beauty of his death will carry on" remind me of ophelia from hamlet for some reason

  • @ohdontpanic42 I agree... but the part that feels like the hamlet reference to me is when she was sitting in the bathtub in her dress. (Remember Ophelia drowned herself.)

  • beautiful inevery way...

    thankyou...c

  • Weird. But quite enjoyable.

  • i don't keep my head up all of the time, i find it dull when my heart meets my mind

  • i can't believe she was only 17 here

  • i love her.

  • Comment removed

  • Laura, your music gets inside my mind. It's like they're almost my exact thoughts.

  • shes aint that young is she?????????? she is good though :)

  • @essiewessy123 She's 20? lol. but she is good.

  • omg she is amazing

  • i've listened to this an unhealthy amount.

  • @GracePearl so have i hahaha :)

  • @GracePearl same, first on my top 25 most played list on itunes :)

  • she is devine . . . her voice, her lyrics.

  • THIS SONG<3

  • Usually I despise videos where they take the lyrics literally, but in this case it works.

  • @LightsOfBohemia

I think it's worse to have a video that is completely unrelated to the song, it makes the video pointless.

  • I love Laura Marling.. Am I the only one who thinks this song is about the different sides of her psyche & depression? just a thought, it was what first struck my mind when I heard it..

  • I can't believe how young she is.

  • squirrely. i wonder what combination of meds she is on?

  • I love this song!

  • she has an amazing way of exactly describing my feelings... some of her lyrics send shivers down my spine. i wish i could think of those words myself, but she invented them. i admire her!

  • Love her hair & dress

  • Amazing Women :)

  • I can't believe how young she is. Only 17 in this video and her voice and songwriting skills are already so developed! I am a new fan as of today :D

  • British women singer/songwriters are just sooooo much better than the whole of the rest of the world....Even just Laura Marling and Amy Winehouse are better than all the rest combined...We are lucky to breed such brilliance and I feel blessed that we have these two over here. Proud to be British!!!

  • @guyosborn Yeah..Amy Winehouse(Personally Id rather listen to Sharon King) something to be proud of..keep it up Britain, keep cranking out those wonderful crackheads..lol

  • @FILMLYFE hmm even if you don't like amy you have to admit she is talented, crackheads have nothing to do with anything

  • @guyosborn Portishead, Bat for Lashes, Broadcast...ya, I'm an American and I have major respect for the Brits in terms of music. :)

  • This song describes perfectly the dude i was totally head over heals for.... but he never kissed me, i wish he had , but it doesn't matter now because he is crazy happy with this other great girl, im happy for her, she has the best guy on earth.... i hope she realizes that

  • I saw her live last week, and she took my breath away!

  • Just found out about Laura from Hop Farm Festival in Kent - Jesus, she has a fabulous voice, fabulous delivery, fabulous lyrics, gorgeous tunes, spooky and scary and sooo original delivery and understandable words and clever writing, singing, playing, concepts. Music is not dead. Hip hop. rap, r'n'b might NOT just be the future - maybe intelligence is...Can't wait till Hop Farm Festival (I'm 52 and despaired of finding good festivals and good music anymore) - thank you Laura, restored my faith!

  • her songs are poetry, lyrics are poetry

  • she's a genius!

  • these lyrics are unreal... students should be writing essays analysing her song lyrics.. its beautiful poetry. i dont really like the rest of her music but something about this song really connects with me. i could never tire of this song.

  • @cocoshire she was a student when she wrote this, but yes i agree x

  • love love love love love heeer <3

  • she has such an amazing voice, i only found out about her last week via facebook, i love these lyrics and her voice :O A+++++++ times a billion

  • The animated cartoons remind me of the ones in the movie Corpse Bride! :)

Really good, but sad song.. I like her style

  • @Leaaaaa5 I thought exactly the same :)

  • shes the new cat power

  • I don't think it's fair to either when you compare the two. They're completely different styles and types of lyrics.

  • I like this song! ^-^

  • chords?

  • @lesliewoodson

Am Em whole way through x

  • @lesliewoodson

    (capo 3rd fret)

  • for the actual song this has borrowed from, listen to diane cluck's 'monte carlo' which has a very similar vocal rhythm and the same melodic snatches. marling does admit being influenced by cluck, who is a far superior purveyor of antifolk than those marling is usually compared to.

  • diane cluck replied to an email i sent her ;p

  • is that black eye mke up

  • what does she steal from cl ?her look ? :)

  • Way better than Courtney Love. And I think she's equal to Joni Mitchell. I love her.

  • i adore this song thank you the words sing me to sleep and memories.

  • love that dress

  • is it me or does she look a lot happier with shorter hair than longish hair?

  • @charley1093 i dont think its the hair that changed that

  • i know

it just seems that she is happy when she has short hair and kinda depressed when she has longer hair

i think it signifies her change

  • i love how the houses at the end are like houses where i live :)

its like she could be my neighbor (since those houses are pretty much like mine) :D

  • oh... sorry i`ll ask her to put one up :)

  • omg omg omg, shut up

  • LOVE this video! x

  • Wow. Just wow.

  • I think this song might be about comparing someone she knows (or loves/loved) to Graham Greene. Greene was a famous romantic and adulterer, no doubt a user of drugs, and, for a man of fervent Catholic faith. This might equate to the "love of his god of all things" the "all manner of sins" the "drugs that deceive him and girls that believe him". He was also a manic depressive who died in Vevey on Lake Geneva.

A wonderful song by an enchanting seamstress of the folk renaissance.

  • is it just me or does she emit this sort of irridescence?

  • If I knew what that meant, probably yes :)

I can kinda work out what it means and i agree

  • haha yeh she does right? like this sort of ghostly glow...

anyhoo checked out your channel- pretty good cover of galaxy of the lost :)

  • ahh what a nice person you are :)

Thank you but its really nothing special. I play for fun not to impress but its always nice to be appreciated once in a while

  • Is it just me or does one of the clouds at the end look like a little bird?

  • is not just you.. hahah

  • Gosh this girl is an amazing lyricist. Definitely one of the best. Her music is so poetic. I just love it :)

  • Would this be considered country music

Sorry, I don't usually listen to country so I really don't know what it would sound like o///o

  • Uh, no, I'd say it's more like....accoustic indie alternative, or something like that.

  • Anti-folk

  • Nahh

    It's just acoustic

  • I don't think it would be, just folk. I tend to associate country music with a really twangy way of pronouncing words which seems very American--it's actually hard for me to imagine how you define British country singing. But I don't think it's her. Except maybe The Captain and the Hourglass.

  • Magical.
