I agree about the tutorial part but once I got into the game (combat) I was so immersed. I'll admit I got an adrenaline rush while fighting (sad sounding I know :P) but its just the way it affected me. Because of this I have a kill'em'all raider character and a character for the story. I cant wait to get my hands on warband!
That is actually a technical error. Because of the way fraps takes video, whenever there is a section where the framerate is particularly low, the resulting video is particularly fast, we tried to compensate, but time is an issue, so we did not have the time to do that.
As we were writing the text for this review, the expansion was scheduled to come out Q3 2009, however when the announcement came that the game was coming out Q1 2010 the video had already been finished and all the core assets had been dumped; it was too late to re-write it. So, apologies for the last 2 seconds of the review, we're bummed that it's not coming out sooner too.
The finished file you see is on my hard drive, but the individual pieces that I used to make it are not. The original video files consitute hundreds of gigabytes of information, I can't keep making videos and keep all the footage from the previous ones.
I'm running a windows XP, AMD Athalon 62 X2 4200 (about 2.21 ghz) with 2 GB of ram and a new Radion 4870. It does up to 200 person fights pretty well, but anything over that tends to lag pretty badly, I need more ram.
While the gameplay is repetitive, the mods do add a LOT to it. Although it loses realism, there are mods for Star Wars and fantasy settings, as well as some more in-depth mods.
The review missed out on some other points - village management, factional warfare (okay, they touched on that).
Remember that our first review was 9 minutes long, nigh unwatchable except by perhaps hardcore fans of the game itself. I started watching this game in 2007 and ran about the official taleworlds mod forums for 2 years, we did know about the mods but due to time concerns, we had to drop some details that would have been nice to mention like managing villages/specifics of sieges/mods. Personally I like the hundred years mod, it's a totally valid semi-total conversion.
gotta say, the battles are VERY different when you are on higher difficulty settings, the AI really thinks also
also, i find mountainus regions poresnt the most tactical possibilities
