  • which h,264 ?

there is serval to choose from

im tryin to rid of black frame on my video

  • OMFG, THANK YOU!!!! I USED TO NEVER BE ABLE TO MAKE A HD VIDEO WITHOUT IT EXPORTING A HUGE FILE! OMG, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!1!! :D

  • If the bitrate is 1.5 to 2 isnt that a bit low for HD because i do my bitrate from 20 to 30?

  • @bulldozerHW For online videos, 1.5-2 is reasonable, but 7-10 is probably best. ~24Mbps is the blu-ray standard, I believe.

  • Thanks for the great tutorial! Very well spoken too.

  • i would like to know what camera can you use to shoot a music video

  • sorry, forgot, when i open a new project, should i choose HDV or just DV as the capture format? after i have chosen that, whats the best format for the sequence? AVCHD 1080i30 anamorphic? or one of the other many options that come up on the list. Again, sorry for seaming like a noob at this, its because I am, I got the camera to do some amature work but it seems the footage i got is better than expected so want to make sure the quality remains when i upload it. thanks

  • ok i will try explain as easy as i can, not too techy with this stuff. I recorded some film using a camcorder, HD1080i, at max resolution which is 1080i 60fps. I have just put it into adobe premiere pro as a quick time file (.mov) would it be better to put it through media encoder first? if so, whats the best settings for this type of file, the size is 0.99GB as a mov file I want to get the best resolution i can when it comes out the other side of prem pro. could you help please

  • ok, when you chose h.264, then went on and chose custom preset, i didn't have that in the list so just left it as the default setting, also, the vid was recorded in 1080i and not 720. will this make a difference when it comes to the encoding process? sorry to be such a pain with questions, i am trying to get this done super fast to beat the press who i foolishly gave a copy of the original video to earlier today

  • @binkiie4dictator What was the default setting if it wasn't h.264? I will be uploading another video shortly going through the different export options. If the original footage was 1080, it would be higher quality if you exported the footage also at 1080. I'm not entirely sure which one would encode faster. I'll try and get that video up today so it's easier to understand.

  • 3:48-3:50 "it should be free to learn". Ironic considering the video I am trying to encode and put on you tube is video footage of a police paramedic beating a protester who was laying on the floor covered in broken glass at the student protest in London on the 10/11/10. education is a right, not a privilege. Hopefully i can upload it ok, we need more people like you, teaching others what you have learned yourself. a true gentleman my dear sir. hopefully one day ALL education will be free

  • @binkiie4dictator Thanks :). That's horrible, I've noticed that it's getting harder and harder to protest. Personally, I think the entire system is failing and governments are losing control, so they're trying to step up control over the population.

  • whats the maximum size (Mb) of a hd vid that can be uploaded to you tube?

  • @binkiie4dictator I'm pretty sure it's 2,024MB (2GB).

  • how odd, my video came out as 4:3 with a letterbox? i must have done something wrong somehow

  • thanks, i was wondering how to export the vids in adobe

  • thanks for the video. But if my camera records 720 hd at 60 fps, what preset should I use? What export settings should I use? I have been at this for over a day... thanks.

  • Great Video, chris! I use premiere pro as well but I'm confused about deinterlacing video. I do sports highlight video so I'm importing vob files from dvds given to me. Not high quality might I add! My question is about deinterlacing. Should I setup the sequence with progressive scan even though it's NTSC DV. Also, should I set the clip's "Field Options" to "Always Deinterlace"? OR should I let Adobe Media Encoder deal with deinterlacing? Any suggestions?

  • @mannyrdi If you're using an interlaced sequence, go to the "Clip" menu > "Video Options" > "Field Options" and select "Always Deinterlace" :)

When I put my interlaced videos into a progressive sequence, premiere automatically deinterlaces for me - not sure if that's a new thing though, I just upgraded to CS5.

  • @christheferal Hey Chris, that brings up two questions: 1. So, you're saying that you create a new sequence with Progressive and import the interlaced video into it? 2. Do you still keep the progressive option in Adobe Media Encoder when exporting? Also, I'm using CS4.

  • @mannyrdi 1) Yes, it seems to deinterlace it automatically for me when I do that. 2) Yes, make sure that you chose the progressive option in AME.

    I'm 99% sure what I said applies for CS4 as well :)

  • @christheferal I just watch a tut on CS5 Media Encoder. For my situation, if I use progressive sequence, do I use "Match Sequence Settings" in CS5 when exporting or do you customize. I guess it all depends on what you're trying to do...right?

  • how to record the screen and the option that u chose in recording fromCamtasia Studio and then rendered into HD.

  • what if you do not have encoder?

  • Nice desktop background of Vancouver, BC

  • Starting out new with CS$ Premiere and Photoshop, can you recommend some good tutorials besides yourself to get the best and most efficient startup possible? I'm a visual learner and can follow along quite well. Thanks.

  • I've actually never really watched and Photoshop nor Premiere Pro tutorials. I've messed around with the program and learnt from that. I'm not really sure of any places I could suggest that I'm certain would have good quality tutorials. Sorry =/

Have you done a Google search? Was it helpful? - that's about as much as I could do for you.

  • hi my name is rotem and my question is

abute an error i get wen i export wmv

the frame size im trying to use is 720x405

and i get the error "invalid frame size"

is there a way to solve this ?

  • My problem is, that cannot choose H.264 because it is not there! i am using CS3 in it is quite different from your version.... Even if you do not reply.... thanks anyway

  • I honesty can't remember how to do it in CS3, it's been so long. You might have to export it in a different format then use SUPER to convert it. There is a tutorial on SUPER in part 1 of 4 or 2 of 4, can't remember which one xD.

  • that's what she said *tear* LMAO

  • = P

  • I only watched some of this guide since my little brother wanted to show me how good the premiere pro 2 really was. I knew that myself but is using a rather more advanced version of it... it´s big big big big brother so to speak.(pro 7) Nevertheless, this is surely a great guide for the pro 2. I just hope my bro catch up the details so he too can use pro 2 as much. (Yeah, he isn´t stupid so he´ll understand after awhile) This is indeed very useful.

  • (well... pro ELEMENTS 7.... sorry... maybe that was a bit confusing... still a really big brother X) )

  • Is it just me or doesn't this work? When I export me videos with these settings, it doesn't look good at all!

  • does any body know y when we export the video and it will be about 2 or 3 Gb or how can we make it normal size like 50 to30 mb videos

    Pls Reply

  • Try compressing the file with any given editingprogram... I for example use the er.. big big big brother of this the premiere pro 2, premiere pro 7. But any given does make the file smaller since they all have a compressingmethod. If you are a beginner at this maybe you should just use the Windows Moviemaker until you are ready for the next one. Heck, even I started with it! Only the third video really got somewhat good but from that time it was a somewhat good quality. I can´t complain.

  • Thanks buddy

  • how do i format a 4:3 to a 720x1280 in premiere cs3

  • when i click ok to render it doesnt pull up the encoder..what do i do?

  • Hi chris. You couldn't possiby tell me what settings to use if I want 60fps. Is everything the same but just set frame rate to 59.97. Please message me onlymybmx thanks x

  • yeah i reckon it shud be, try it out, wats worse that could happen ??

  • Where you get that wallpaper???...It's Good!!

  • I honestly can't remember, I should try to find where I put that background - I know I've got it somewhere, I just don't know where. If I find it, I suppose I could PM you a link to download it.

  • ok men thanks!!!

  • Hi, I'm at the point where I set the Basic Video Settings and when I try to set the frame dimensions to 1280 x 720 an error msg pops up saying invalid framesize for this level. All other settings are set as yours except this one.

  • Try changing the level setting to 3.1

  • Hmm this seems so d ifferent to adobe premier pro 3, do i need to have a codec pack for the movie export to see different formats (like mp4 and h.2 etc)

  • When under "general", change the file type to quicktime and then you can change the compressor under "video" to H.264

  • And in your tutorial you did not cover the colour effects that we could apply to make it glossier and more crispy.

What colours filter do you suggest?

  • In encoding it FROZE!

  • I really got confused now. When do you finish your demostration about the text you did. It's HD pro cs 4 tutrial remember?

  • very nice helped me a lot in my project

  • Cool :)

  • You are using 2 Mbit/sec?

Shouldn't we be using 8000/sec in order to have really HD crispy quality?

Or at least 3000/sec which is the minmum of crispy HD quality?

  • It's going at around 2000Kbps. To be honest, it really depends on what footage you've got, if it's fast moving you'll want a higher bitrate, if it's something like a screen capture or there isn't much movement you can go with lower bitrates.

I'd go around 3000 for average videos or go 5000Kbps if you want to be sure to get the best quality on YouTube.

    Hope that helps :)

  • Oh, by the way, I'm pretty sure YouTube caps it at around 5Mbps, I'm not 100% sure, but I heard that anything above 5000 gets pushed down to 5000, or something close to that.

  • I tried to push the 2.0 rate that you suggested into 5.0 on a 17 minute video.

It required 21 hours for making it into HD.

Why is that? Also the size of the outcome video was extreme!!!

  • Is there ANY way to make it go faster???? I made a 3min. video and it took 2 hours!!!!! I am 512mb of ram, 16mb video card, and a 160gb hdd. (laptop from 1990's)

  • Okay, with those specs, all I can suggest is to upgrade your computer. Sorry.

If you're doing HD, you really need a computer that was made within the last few years or with higher specs.

Those are pretty good specs for a laptop from the 90's though!

  • Thanks

  • hey man, i saw your encoding was going Way faster than my does, what kind of system are you using??? i have 4 gigs ram, with a dual core 2.4 amd and encoding these large vids eat up all my recouses and takes forevor... im just curious what you are using.. thanks for the great info btw..

  • Hmm, it could be a setting in the application.

I'm on these specs, but I was recording the screen as well, which slowed mine down.. anyway, here are my specs:

    -2.8Ghz dual core extreme

    -4gb ddr2 800mhz

    -8800m gts 512mb (laptop)

    -2x250 5400rpm laptop HDD's

It's kind of funny though, because, I have a tri-core AMD 2.24Ghz (I think) and it's a LOAD faster than this laptop, though, it has got faster RAM (1066mhz) as well.

  • Again, I'm not sure whether it's your hardware or your software settings,

When you say it's much faster, how much faster is it, can you estimate?

  • thanks i followed ur tut, and u can see the outcome at my profile, its the last vid i uploaded.. but there's one problem, it doesn't plays really smooth.. before i exported it.. the video played more smooth, :/ =(

  • YouTube is destroying videos right now. I have no idea. They even messed up several of my past videos, and new videos are having frames dropped when compressed by YouTube.

  • Didnt work for me :S I really hoped it would but good tutorial anyways :)

  • I've been having issues too, sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Even with all the videos having the same settings.

Try upping the bitrate to 4,000 and see if that helps, thanks for your comment :)

  • "It's not that big when you think about it... and she ewen sed that to me... and.. it was quite dissepointing, but... what can you do?"

  • well, what can you do? lol :P

  • Well, I have never had that problem xD

  • Lol... okay, I'm just going to sit over there. lol.

  • Fine, but before u go I have a question. Your description worked fine when I'm loading up other peoples music, but when I'm loading up my owne songs I can't get HG or HD... Any ideas?

  • As in music tracks on youtube?

  • Right!

  • Have the music videos got actual HD video content in them or are they just blank?

  • I usually just ad pictures over my songs...

  • That's weird, if you're using the right settings and it doesn't work, I'm really not sure :-S

    Sorry.

  • Thanx anyway! The world needs its nerds :)

  • Lol, no problem. Really sorry I couldn't help.

  • I NO LONGER OFFER SUPPORT:

I have NOT disabled comments because occasionally one commenter may help another.

I CANNOT offer support for this tutorial any more due to time constraints.

Thanks so much for the support towards this video so far.

Thanks for understanding, feel free to comment, just don't expect a reply from me.

  • thank you !!!!!!!!!!! you are a BIG help thanks mate!

    cjreeedy

  • No problem :)

  • HERO! finally someone with a good tutorial!

  • Thanks :D

  • Hmm, could you also send me the same PM you sent to JSpraya? I'm wondering the same thing.

  • I no longer offer support for this tutorial. Sorry.

  • Can you tube show Hd now , 2-03-2009 ,

dude please make sure your telling us the best way to upload youtube HD because alot of stuff is sayin 1080 hd on youtube.

    so can youtube display 1080?

  • Responded in the PM you sent me.

  • I saved same way as you (in your video) , but my isn't fully HD :S

  • what do you mean "isn't fully HD"?

  • Watch my video in HD: Mirrors Edge Music Video

  • ...but mine isn't fully HD

  • I don't understand what you mean, I can see the HD option.

  • I know that my video is HD, but it is pixelated

  • Well that's odd, can you tell me what the original size of the video was? If it was lower than 720p, then you will see pixelation/lower quality if you upscale it to 720p

  • The original size is 1280x1024, AVI (fraps)

    I save H264, 1280x720, 16:9 HDTV 720p 23.976 HQ

  • can you show me what video you are talking about please.

  • Hi again,

Juts let you know that it looks OK, but not what I expected. Anyway, I`m tired of encoding 3 times. I will try next video in the near future, but this time I will use Sony Vegas. Let`s see if result will be the same as Adobe or better. Thank You Very Much for great support and quick replies :)

  • no problem, best of luck :)

  • I will try again and let you know how it went. Yes, I`m aware of setting 1280X720. This is what I`ve done before. Now my target bitrate will be set to 3

and max to 5. I`ve seen another tutorial with Sony Vegas where someone set to 5,000, so let`s see. Third time encoding in APCS4 :( and again waiting time at least 2h. Now my file jumped from 82MB to 150MB

  • I honestly think the best VBR is 2400 - 2800 (after re-calculating)

but let me know how it turns out anyway.

    Make sure you choose 2-pass.

  • Thank you again. You are soooo helpfull. I`m sorry my vid is Private this is why you canot see it, but I finished encoding and now is uploading to YT with setting as I wrote below. Let me see how is going to be. I do have 2 pass. AP CS4 is new for me and have no idea what bitrate target and max stand for. I just follow turorials. VBR? Wher do I set this? Thank You again

  • Sorry, accidentally posted from a new account for my new website :P

In the adobe media encoder, down the bottom in the video tab you should see a bitrate section, that's where you can set it

  • Hi,

Thanks for your quick reply. I use Canon HF11 with Full HD shooting. Original movie shows 1920x1080 29.97 I uploaded again video but with changes to PAL and 25 frames. It even worsened now. It has been done before I read your reply.

  • hmm, okay, try using 29.97 again and up the bitrate to 3,000-3,500.

It'll create a bigger file, but may improve the quality.

Also note, on youtube, they scale 1920x1080 down to 1280x720

  • Great tutorial. I uploaded today my first video according to your setting. However, my video is not so clear as yours, it`s not smooth & picture is kind of freezing. What did I do wrong? Let me say first this: My cam is NTSC and for this system as I`m aware setting 16:9 is 29.97, but you show 25, which is for PAL. I followed your advice though. Do you think to change encoding in PAL 25frames will change this or it would be better for me to keep NTSC but change encoding video back to 29.97?

  • firstly, I believe that lowering it to 24 or 25 frames will enhance the picture quality, though it'll be less smooth.

Secondly, are you actually recording in HD or just standard widescreen?

  • ive got a tutorial: how to rotoscope a lightsaber in after effects and gun effects like mussle flashes

  • how much did you get premere 4

  • I bought Master Collection CS4 for $1500 AUD with a discount as I am in school.

  • have you heard about topaz enhance?

  • Not sure, is it a plugin?

  • yes. but i found another way to convert to hd. i use a sony dcr-vx2000 which records in sd. but i have a hard drive that hooks up to the camera and converts, thn sends the signal back to the camera via IEEE 1334 in/out. but it only works on NTSC.

  • Hi ! could you tell me, what is the best export settings for PAL standard def 4:3..? i'm working with adobe pro cs4. :))

your videos are great thanks for the time :) looking forward for more .

  • Lol. I prefer MP4 :P

  • Thank you for the help!

  • Thanks for watching :P

  • Thanks, very useful ^^

  • No problem :)

  • Thanks for the vid, testing it out as we speak on a high def AMV.

  • do you know how i could do it in adobe premiere elements 4?

  • I have a tutorial coming up soon :)

  • okay cool because i cannot figure it out.

  • awesome thanks

  • No problems :)

  • I looked at the time. WTF!! 7 mins!! i was gonna watch the first min lol. but it was the best tutorial i have ever seen. keep up the good work mate. hope 2 see more in the future. btw. i have sony vegas 8&9 and when i render, i open the saved file & i get no audio & a black picture for a video .any answres? reply back

    cheers mate

    peace out

    x

  • Haha, cool :D

I haven't used Vegas much at all, but I have downloaded a trial of a version about six months ago, I'll go ahead and install it and see if I can figure it out :)

  • Oh, and I noticed that in one of the youtube articles, they recommend 1290x720. I know that this isn't 16:9, and I was wondering if this was a mistake.

  • I would say they made a typo, 1280x720 fits the player and current computer screens perfectly.

  • Thanks for doing this. It was very easy to understand and follow.

However, for future videos, I would get a better microphone

Thanks for taking the time to do this

  • Thanks for the suggestion, I am buying a new microphone setup very soon :)

  • DAyum I was converting a movie and it was almost finished it was taking for ever 4:00 hours! so i dont want to start over and i went to sleep and my sister cut It off!! can I re continue where it stop converting at????????

  • Sorry about the delayed response, I never got an email notification.

As far as I know you'll have to start again, sorry :( - leave it on over night.

  • OH MY I Press The High quality button AND WAM!!!!! amazing!!

  • yep, it's pretty awesome.

  • And she even said that to me...

    rofl

  • oh my! :P

  • Cool stuff. I will probably try this tonight.

As for future tuts, do you use CS3 or 4? I just purchased the CS4 Premium Production Suite (Premiere, Encore, AE, Flash, Photoshop Ext., Soundbooth)

  • Glad you liked it :)

The future ones will be CS4, until CS5 comes out.

  • so got any tips on how to install h.264 codec to show up inside Camstudio Or Premiere cs3, in the export list.

tryed downloading vista codec packs, stand alone .264 codecs only place i can lcoated the codec is in Super, or Windows movie maker (sometimes) no idea why it dosent load into WMM every time :p

  • Camtasia Studio - I have no idea if your particular version has it, though try using .mov and checking the export settings, h.264 should be in there somewhere.

As for cs3, go file > export > Media (I think that's the right option) then choose mp4, h.264... or just h.264, which ever one is there.

    I can't help you with WMM, sorry, I don't use it :P

Let me know what you find or if you need more help :)

  • allright tx for the response..

    Got it working.. watch?v=8SOzHAKT4QE

    In windows movie maker,

i just selected the Preset named

    - Windows Media HD 720p (pal) (5.9Mbps)

which produced a 94mb file, and i just uploaded it without doing anything else.

so i guess that preset from MS works..

just using a normal windows compression.

  • VERY nice!

If you can edit the bitrate, I would lower it from 5.9Mbps down to about 2.2 - saves space.

  • Microsoft is kinda gay about editing their presets, however i ran it through Super(c) after in got this watch?v=mLeUu1hDko4

    only 47mb.

    Using "your settings"

still large for 2minuttes, but its working.

  • oh also, did you use the same settings for this video?

  • I believe I used all the same settings, except the bitrate was set to 1,800kbps - 2,400kbps VBR

  • I'm using CS3 and it's pretty much the same thing except Adobe Media Encoder but I haven't Uploaded it yet. I'll put it here or send it so you can see the results (I modded the stuff a little though)

  • The Adobe Media Encoder is so much easier to use though, and you can work in the background, while encoding.

Let me know when you've uploaded it :)

  • OK it's up, I posted it as a response to this video. I hope you like it. There will be more to come in the series.

  • good job

  • thanks aswell :)

  • Good series!!!!

  • thanks :D
