Back when I was in high school many moons ago..I was dating/seeing a girl who left for college and although I always liked "Here's where the story ends", I wasn't a fan or actually knew who the Sundays were. We wrote to each other every week and on one of her letters she wrote the complete lyrics of this song. Nothing else. Been a fan of The Sundays ever since!
The Sundays are the greatest, remind me of high school and an innocence and carefreeness i wish I still had. It also reminds me of vacations in the San Luis Beach area. I was a young girl growing up......i had the whole world.
Is this a song about skepticism of religion? I think so, although it's a lot more subtle than, say, Alannis Morrisett's "Forgiven" for example. Wheeler's lyrics are a bit vague and ambiguous, but very feminine--she doesn't provide the answer. The approach works well with their particular style, and musically, they stay where they are strong. Her singing is absolutely sublime, and she really grew as a vocalist in Blind and Static.
@DandAinTac did you check out their last album? it's just as brilliant what did it for me was definitely monochrome and when I think about you; they lifted up with summertime
@MikroBadass I didn't like it as good as Blind. And "Summertime" is okay, but it's just not the style I like best from them. My favorite track is "When I'm thinking about you". Harriet's vocals are so exquisite, it sends a shiver up my spine every time she sings the chorus line on that track. I like "Folk Song" also.
thers something about this that just wakens me up, like one of those rare sleeps you have and awake with clarity! beautiful thats what the sundays are! and what have we got today in the charts? absoulute rubbish! this is music! rant over lol!
@thingsTheater I remember when I first got turned onto the Sunday's. It was actually in a movie with Mark Wahlberg & Reese Witherspoon called "FEAR", awesome movie. But during the "Roller Coaster" ride in the movie, The Sunday's played their hit song "Wild Horses". I have all their albums. Very beautiful voice, and very strong but bright lyrics as well. : O )

There's an ad on this video for "singles over 40". I'm not in that range yet but it's a sign for how old this song is.

This one is a bit too close to the mark, as it were. People can only tolerate so much truth, no matter how sweetly it is delivered.

One of the best songs ... ever! Reminds me of the fall of '93 in Michigan. Cerulean skies and the sunlight on farm fields ...

Love this song, Harriet is amazing, this is the only peaceful music i listen to, to calm down after the industrial and DnB, it's cleansing.

What an eerily beautiful song!! Melancholic, yet still reaching out to help. Pretty special.
