Means that the "Vista" program has 100% been given up? If yes - unbelievable! Why? No other aircrafts to take over the system if the F-16 was not the best choice?
This would be great if we were building an "air show" plane, but the stealth features of the f-22 far out weigh this kind of maneuverability. I say let the Russians waste their time with this stuff, because when air combat happens for real the Raptors will rule superior.
Have to agree, as a Britisher, I think Id rather have twice as many F15 Silent Eagles, and upgraded f16s than the (Brilliant) but less capable in A2G Typhoon.
@gnark1ll1us Im going to qualify my statement slightly. I would rather see the Silent Eagles and advanced models of Viper in teh RAF inevntory as an INTERIM measure for the next 10-15 years, since the future is unmannned. I dont see any nation building a plane to dominate Eagle or Fighting falcon in their VANILLA form let alone advanced models, even in the next 20 years.
makes you wonder what the hell procurerment is thinking really.
Now, can someone explain to me why this technology was never applied to the F-35? It looks like a simple matter of changing the engine and adding some software.
You will ALWAYS need to maneuver in a dog fight. The engineers are fooling themselves again with a total beleif in technology. This is no different from the 70s when they said the phantom would not need a gun the missiles would do all the work. And everybody knows what happened then.
If we did this to the F-16 than other country's (most likely Israel) will have thrust vectoring. There only needs to be one with Thrust Vectoring F-22
Great video! Thanks for posting. I really believe we should have been working on this technlogy (with stealth derivitives) in the F-16 and F-15 rather than investing so heavily in the F-22 and F-35.
Its like a thrust-vectoring jet!

Does it really?

@1st503rdSGT
Because the F35 doesn't even need to maneuver in a dog fight, the missiles do the turning.

@drbackjack
lol you don't really beleive that do you?

@TheProjektcc
I'm just saying, that doesn't mean its not maneuverable. Test pilots report that it has comparable flight flight characteristics to the F18.

I hope so for all that money I trully hope so cause I've heard different from many aviation insiders

@beroth1 where is you proof ?
tomjohnson1974 1 year ago
@tomjohnson1974 Depends if you want to include for VTOL ability such as the Harrier or for maneuverability.
The latter would be the F-15 STOL/MTD which made its first flight in 1988.
Russia had only put TVC on a fighter in the 21st century with the MiG-29 OVT and Su-30MK, Su-35BM, Su-37/47.

@eatdrinkthrive What? Thrust vectoring IS the future. Vista is OLD. Active is OLD. You think we are the only country with thrust vectoring?
