@JediMaster9780 Yeah, the Daemon fed on all the blood and warfare going on on the planet, if Gabriel had destroyed the stone earlier, it would not have had enough power to escape and simply would have been destroyed, but it had gathered enough power and is now free to bring destruction upon teh galaxy
@AbyssalZones True, but in fairness: the fluff says the Eldar attacked a delegation from the Imperium because of a dormant Chaos sword. That was their best chance to make humanity their ally, and they blew it by being hasty. You reap what you sow, you know?
I choose to look on the bright side: at the end of the game, the map was a sea of orks. WAAAGH!
@ProblemChild809 ...Well way to go Angelos. In ignoring the Eldar you unleashed the deamon that would go on to possess your chapter master, usher forth an Exterminatus on a saveable world, and nearly destroy the Blood Ravens from within.

And in the end, the daemon of maledictum gets killed by the space marines. One thing I want to say. What was that? Sorry, I couldn't hear your your dead body
@FPExooodus no. ulkair was a greater deamon of nurgle- the chaos god a plague and decay. this was a great deamon of khorn- chaos god of blood and war.
@lbstorm He's been trapped in that stone for fuck knows how long, Retribution is set about 15 or so years after this game, 15 years is pretty soon for a demon that old.
@Edward1v Nah its the Maledictum, it just manifested it self in Kyras' conciousness, which then made Kyras at the end of retribution sacrafice his physical form to bring thing into a physical being, Kyras was still in there of course, he was just half daemon, and... half out of the ground lol.
Daemon...upon showing yourself to us you have condemned yourself to certain death, for upon hearing of your escape my superiors will send their greatest weapon to fight you. You know of what I speak.
Just wondering after discussions from other vids, is Sindri really dead? Since he's now a daemon prince I assume he was just sent back into the warp to be 'disciplined' by Khorne or something.
@delta3030 It depends. If you can kill a newly ascended fast enough it may destroy it. Depends on how the individual in question ascended, and how he was killed.
@HiveFleetHydra Hardly. More like a cameo. Though mentioned, the Daemon of the Maledictum was never seen on-screen, much less destroyed. It's still out there... Plotting.

@Rykanable I belive the Blood Raven ending is the cannon one.. although you do have a point in that in Soulstorm Blood Ravens were said to have faced a catastrophic loss. We'll see I suppose!
@coreqek Well, now that is the question, no? It will either be the Blood Raven ending that is canon, or the IG ending (where he dies too btw). For as much as we know, GW likes to have the Imperium victorious (only real exception here is WA where the Eldar won, though the IG survived aswell).
@Rykanable Yeah, and like I said the Blood Ravens lost in Soulstorm.. although I'm not sure who was stated to have won there. Still, I think the Blood Ravens ending is the one most likely to turn out as cannon in Retribution.. Dawn of War 2 has always been about the Blood Ravens - and their ending is the most relevant in terms of story-telling. Although that's only my opinion.
Besides. They know we love Gabriel. They wouldn't DARE kill him off ;)
@coreqek "SPOILER" In The Game Called "Space Marine" There are blood ravens in there and the game is after the aurrelian crusade so the Space Marines ending is probably canon in retribution.
@coreqek yeah its also possible that they will work in the eldar ending as it did a nice job wrapping up the taldeer story and also works in future possiblities for the necrons.
I think we will see this daemon in retribution, because in the preview there was a screen saying: "... i set this events in motion with a single blow from my hammer, godspliter." gabriel is saying that and must be refering to when he destroyed the maleductom (sorry mispell).
I hear tell that THAT is the demon responsible for all the subsequent conflicts includeing lorn 5, kronus, and the kaurava system, HE made all that happen, I think.....any one know anything about that?
@DJTRANCENDENCE Not true. He only aranged Kyras corruption. Also it was Ulkair who "opened" Kyras eyes, only much later this did particular demon make him worship Khorne.
Gabrial Angelos should be promoted to the rank of Grand Master Grey Knight. I mean he has a god splitter. So why not leave him into the Blood Ravens but raise the rank?
A Grey Knight is trained from birth at Saturn's moon Titan, pass through over six hundred and sixty six stringent trials to prove that he is capable of withstanding horrors that would break even the greatest of 'normal' Space Marines. Afterwards he has the majority of their memories and personality erase for extra loyalty, fight daemons forever. And he has to be a psyker. So no, he can't be a a Grey Knight Grand Master because of his fancy God-Splitter.
I'm hoping this daemon is more involved in the whoel series than we think. If you pay attention to the subtitles in the IGN preview for retribution, you can see one line at around 21 seconds in.

In the new IGN preview you can see a cutscene at about 20 seconds in where subtitles say: "Yet ultimatly it was I who set these events in motion, with a single blow of my hammer god splitter". Maybe this refer to Gabriel releasing the daemon?
The original DoW videogame boasted the best plotline of all the sequels and other games made after it, save for Dawn of War 2 Chaos Rising. Pity it seemed they can't replicate the results
I wish I could know how this ends, after he releases the deamon, then what happens, who is the deamon, what is his name, which of the chaos god does he serve, and does Gabriel ever kill him
Did you ever stop to wonder why the eldar didn't just destroy the stone themselves TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO?! They trapped it and buried it. That was the best they could do. Way to go Space Marines all that work and you freed the daemon after all.
@Lathox Yeah, I was kinda wondering that myself. Destroy the stone and they could've prevented all of this. They would likewise have destroyed the Daemon inside. Destroyed, not banished mind you.
'Course the Eldar are a strange race. They're guided by visions of the future, and they try to direct everything to their best possible outcomes. But, I've worked with them a couple of times, even though I'm a SM. Figure by now they might cut me some slack.
Obviously they didn't want anything to do with it. It's possible they couldn't destroy it. So they simply trapped it and buried it. It might have been a good idea to just throw that stone into deep space or something. Let's pretend the eldar didn't show up. Either the space marines would have found and destroyed it, or the chaos space marines would have released it. So they knew they had to do something.
@Lathox perhaps the conditions were not met to destroy the deamon... maybe after fighting with the demon they had no more forces so they opted to go for imprisonment... who knows... but I am sure they have a reason, good or bad. No matter, SM will finish those damned chaos... they are not very fond on capture and very fond on killing :)
I have to ask, When The demon said "Yes, flee, and know i will come to consume you all!" What happend to him when Dawn of war 2 rolled around? Is he dead? Or is he like a god of khorne or something? Somebody needs to know this.
@Logicalspy He be a greater daemon, probably some higher-up bloodthirster. With his release, he probably made his way back to the warp, waiting to be summoned into a number of sacrifices.
@ManyRegretsz Not really sure, its kind of a loose end that they merely address in the next game. It would be awesome if they made a DOW where you had to go into the eye of terror and fight this thing though. :D
@HolyBomb Lol, Chaos are the true manipulators here. Talk about the Blood Ravens sticking their foot in their mouths. Its like "oh yeah, all that ork/Chaos killing was for my benefit.... soooo, i will see you later mortal!"
It will be great to see that deamon, when Angelos defeat kyras (u know, an "epic" and deadly fight with fallen chapter master, a last mission, you dont have heal, orbital, i have anything...and boom!! daemon appear and you must fight with him, this will be epic if we must do it only comanding angelos
When are they going to follow this up? (I have not playd DoW2 yet) I men this is epic, way are they not doing a expansion or sequel on this storyline?
@GamersReviewer DoW2 is an expansion, as Gabriel is in DoW2 but the daemon ahvent had time to be a treath, and when he will be a treath Gabriel will come
@GamersReviewer I hope they never do, DoW2 is terrible when it comes to epicnes.....I mean, if you played this DoW then DoW2...putting aside the change in game play, you notice the game lacks qualitiy and it dosnt have that the epic quality that this game does, for instance the story isn't what it could be, far from it. In comparison, its terrible.
@deadlykeybord Thats true, I sort of get the fealing that relic dont really dear to have a serius story sens DoW 1. I dont gett it, if I was able to make a game in 40k I would make it as epic as possible.
@deadlykeybord DoW2 was setting for a new story. look at Thule from Dark Crusade who becomes a dreadnought. now DoW3 should have an all new system. may be turn-based? with Angelos and a small number of Blood Ravens fighting chaos and having to take equipment from their fallen foes. may be Inqusitor Toth will help with a small number of IGs. it can be an epic story.
@huntercd ...If that happens I shall never play it. DoW2 was a failure is you ask me, they changed to much, ruined a perfectly great game and replaced it with "good" at best. DoW was great, which is why I shall always play it.
Gabriel later meets with Farseer Macha on Rahe's Paradise. There, he assists her in destroying an awakening Necron threat. He also meets with Taldeer after the war on Lorn V and they form a bond. She calls him, "Gabriel of the Hidden Heart" and her Harlequins give him the Blade of Vaul. He gives this weapon to Macha, who uses it against the Necrons.
All Eldar have great respect for Cpt. Angelos. I've followed in his footsteps- Fighting beside, not against Eldar forces.
I think this demon hasn't shown up because they wanted to save him up to the end... or not... whatever. I think it is a Balrog, because, that head looks like the head of a balrog! And it isn't Khorne because he is a god and isn't imprisoned, and even if it would be him, then he would be talking about himself!
Am I the only one who was more than just merely "disappointed" that Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising STILL just left us with a freaking cliff hanger on the events of vDoW's campaign? Woopty doo apparently *spoiler* is involved, *spoiler* comes back and *spoiler* randomly shows up in the story line but what gives? Fail on Relics part.
@Invisableman111 I know the demon is in the first book. I want to know If the sequel to the first book, dawn of war ascension, is also about the demon.
I still can't believe this greater demon hasn't shown up in any other games. I'm gonna guess because theyre gonna have him in the last dawn of war or somthing as the final epic campaign? idk
So far: Greater Daemon of Khrone Chapter Master Kyras Abbadon the Despoiler Eliphas the Inheritor Cyrus Tarkus Avitus Force Commander Davian Thule Jonah Thaddeus Lot of bad guys and yes I believe that the full evil ending of Chaos Rising is canon.
@darkness007666 I really hope you know that of the people you listed as "bad guys" there are only 4 there. Cyrus, Tarkus, Avitus, Force Commander, Thule, Jonah, and Thaddeus are good. The Uncorrupt ending is the the actual ending.
.... and why the fuck is failbadon on the other side of the galaxy? Seriously shouldnt he be attempting a black crusade (and failing, again) or something? STOP ADDING MORE VILLAINS AND RESOLVE THE DAMN STORYLINE!
The problem is the storyline can't advance. They are pinning characters that they can't kill against each other and so you end up with a stand off. They can't have Chaos conquer Cadia, but they can't kill Abbadon either. Games Workshop wants to maintain this so it can make money.
Gabriel is still alive by the time of Chaos Rising, but I cannot help but wonder- Was he ever successful in killing this Greater Daemon? I know that he and Farseer Macha fought side-by-side later to destroy the Necrons on another planet, and she spread word of his bravery & noble spirit by referring to him as "Gabriel of the Hidden Heart".
But still, was he ever successful in killing the Daemon?
@NicholasGeschke Given how the demon called a warp storm to it and Gabriel left its quite possible that the world was consumed by the warp or is at least still sorrounded by the warp storm so probably not yet no.
so what happens with Gabriel after dawn of war 1 cuss i hear that he turn chaos or somethin and then in dawn of war 2 theres a ton of characters who come back to that game but Gabriel is never heard of after this game whats up?
@DeathSithe92 well incase you havn't noticed, gabriel is in dawn of war 2 in both campaigns, on the side of good. as a matter of fact, one of the alternate endings to it is that when you go like 90% chaos in the chaos rising campaign he will even execute you for heresy, so hes definetly good; you just havn't been paying attention lol
hey...i know i know tht this comment dont be to be here but! hey i read a thing were they say tat the blood ravens becomes chaos its that true? please answer

this could have possibly been averted if the eldar could EXPLAIN things and say something other than "fool! you have no idea what you are doing!!"
chainsawninjalcemist 1 year ago 2
Did you ever stop to wonder why the eldar didn't just destroy the stone themselves TEN THOUSAND YEARS AGO?! They trapped it and buried it. That was the best they could do. Way to go Space Marines all that work and you freed the daemon after all.
Lathox 1 year ago
@Lathox Yeah, I was kinda wondering that myself. Destroy the stone and they could've prevented all of this. They would likewise have destroyed the Daemon inside. Destroyed, not banished mind you.
'Course the Eldar are a strange race. They're guided by visions of the future, and they try to direct everything to their best possible outcomes. But, I've worked with them a couple of times, even though I'm a SM. Figure by now they might cut me some slack.
NicholasGeschke 1 year ago
@NicholasGeschke
Lathox 1 year ago
@Lathox perhaps the conditions were not met to destroy the deamon... maybe after fighting with the demon they had no more forces so they opted to go for imprisonment... who knows... but I am sure they have a reason, good or bad. No matter, SM will finish those damned chaos... they are not very fond on capture and very fond on killing :)

I have to ask, When The demon said "Yes, flee, and know i will come to consume you all!" What happend to him when Dawn of war 2 rolled around? Is he dead? Or is he like a god of khorne or something? Somebody needs to know this.
Logicalspy 1 year ago
@Logicalspy He be a greater daemon, probably some higher-up bloodthirster. With his release, he probably made his way back to the warp, waiting to be summoned into a number of sacrifices.

@commander7890 And inquisitor toth? Did he go back to the inquisition stronghold?

@Logicalspy I think he was mentioned in the dark crusade ending for when the space marines win, so he was still around.

ManyRegretsz 1 year ago
@ManyRegretsz Not really sure, its kind of a loose end that they merely address in the next game. It would be awesome if they made a DOW where you had to go into the eye of terror and fight this thing though. :D

@HolyBomb Lol, Chaos are the true manipulators here. Talk about the Blood Ravens sticking their foot in their mouths. Its like "oh yeah, all that ork/Chaos killing was for my benefit.... soooo, i will see you later mortal!"

anyone else thinks, this demon head looks like be'lakor head??

It will be great to see that deamon, when Angelos defeat kyras (u know, an "epic" and deadly fight with fallen chapter master, a last mission, you dont have heal, orbital, i have anything...and boom!! daemon appear and you must fight with him, this will be epic if we must do it only comanding angelos

When are they going to follow this up? (I have not playd DoW2 yet) I men this is epic, way are they not doing a expansion or sequel on this storyline?
GamersReviewer 1 year ago
@GamersReviewer DoW2 is an expansion, as Gabriel is in DoW2 but the daemon ahvent had time to be a treath, and when he will be a treath Gabriel will come
rimboos 1 year ago
@rimboos ok ^^
GamersReviewer 1 year ago
@GamersReviewer I hope they never do, DoW2 is terrible when it comes to epicnes.....I mean, if you played this DoW then DoW2...putting aside the change in game play, you notice the game lacks qualitiy and it dosnt have that the epic quality that this game does, for instance the story isn't what it could be, far from it. In comparison, its terrible.
deadlykeybord 1 year ago
@deadlykeybord Thats true, I sort of get the fealing that relic dont really dear to have a serius story sens DoW 1. I dont gett it, if I was able to make a game in 40k I would make it as epic as possible.
GamersReviewer 1 year ago
@deadlykeybord DoW2 was setting for a new story. look at Thule from Dark Crusade who becomes a dreadnought. now DoW3 should have an all new system. may be turn-based? with Angelos and a small number of Blood Ravens fighting chaos and having to take equipment from their fallen foes. may be Inqusitor Toth will help with a small number of IGs. it can be an epic story.
huntercd 1 year ago
@huntercd ...If that happens I shall never play it. DoW2 was a failure is you ask me, they changed to much, ruined a perfectly great game and replaced it with "good" at best. DoW was great, which is why I shall always play it.
deadlykeybord 1 year ago
damn it! i'd give it to Eldar, sure they're back stabbers, but they're the professional with demons and being able to controls all that shit
Rocketfist15 1 year ago
Gabriel later meets with Farseer Macha on Rahe's Paradise. There, he assists her in destroying an awakening Necron threat. He also meets with Taldeer after the war on Lorn V and they form a bond. She calls him, "Gabriel of the Hidden Heart" and her Harlequins give him the Blade of Vaul. He gives this weapon to Macha, who uses it against the Necrons.
All Eldar have great respect for Cpt. Angelos. I've followed in his footsteps- Fighting beside, not against Eldar forces.

godboy114 1 year ago

@ThePrimarchvulkan Game came first, book second. I'm sure you can take an educated guess and figure that out.
Invisableman111 1 year ago
@Invisableman111 I know the demon is in the first book. I want to know If the sequel to the first book, dawn of war ascension, is also about the demon.
ThePrimarchvulkan 1 year ago
@ThePrimarchvulkan I believe it is, but I'm not sure. As far as I know its just been stuck as a cliff hanger.
Invisableman111 1 year ago
I still can't believe this greater demon hasn't shown up in any other games. I'm gonna guess because theyre gonna have him in the last dawn of war or somthing as the final epic campaign? idk

@darkness007666 I really hope you know that of the people you listed as "bad guys" there are only 4 there. Cyrus, Tarkus, Avitus, Force Commander, Thule, Jonah, and Thaddeus are good. The Uncorrupt ending is the the actual ending.

Relic seriously needs to resolve this thing. Jut go back and put an actual ending to this!
MrEVILoLAZOR 1 year ago
@MrEVILoLAZOR Agreed, this is getting ridiculous.
.... and why the fuck is failbadon on the other side of the galaxy? Seriously shouldnt he be attempting a black crusade (and failing, again) or something? STOP ADDING MORE VILLAINS AND RESOLVE THE DAMN STORYLINE!
Invisableman111 1 year ago
@Invisableman111
The problem is the storyline can't advance. They are pinning characters that they can't kill against each other and so you end up with a stand off. They can't have Chaos conquer Cadia, but they can't kill Abbadon either. Games Workshop wants to maintain this so it can make money.
Lathox 1 year ago
There is a reason why the Eldar didn't just do that themselves 10,000 years ago.
Lathox 1 year ago
@Lathox Wouldnt be as dramatic of a story of course!

NicholasGeschke 1 year ago
@NicholasGeschke Given how the demon called a warp storm to it and Gabriel left its quite possible that the world was consumed by the warp or is at least still sorrounded by the warp storm so probably not yet no.
Hydra000001 1 year ago
@NicholasGeschke Nope, he is conspiring with others such as Abaddon to destroy the Blood Ravens.

@DeathSithe92 Gabriel is in dawn of war 2 alot and also in its expansion but hes not Chaos
Hydra000001 1 year ago
@DeathSithe92 well incase you havn't noticed, gabriel is in dawn of war 2 in both campaigns, on the side of good. as a matter of fact, one of the alternate endings to it is that when you go like 90% chaos in the chaos rising campaign he will even execute you for heresy, so hes definetly good; you just havn't been paying attention lol
