she does not look like a child to me. but film audiences were not as sophisticated at that time due to the newness of the art form and probably just suspended disbelief. Hollywood has always been prone to use actresses that were older than their characters. Fortunately that is not as often the case now,can you imagine a 25 year old playing Abby in Let Me In ? It would be laughed off the screen ! Hurray for REAL young actresses such as Chloe Moretz, Elle fanning, and Lina Leandersson !

Mary Pickford was great; a gifted actress, ahead of her time. My, how they push & shove her about here! Funny thing---Pickford once said she wanted all her films burned after she died. I'm glad we have them to see today. Thanks for posting this.

Ah yes. I did see a documentary soon afterward about the making of the movie. Very smart of the makers to do that (back in the day, of course). And Mary was in fact, small. She did awesome. Great actress!

LOl as funny as this may sound...I'm around the same size as her and I'm 21 lol. Thing is the youngest age I can pull off is 16. I just think it's awesome how she managed to pull off 13 (that's the age she looks in the film) even with eye make-up. It's sad I'm just finding out about her and all these years I've loved old films and fashion & hings pertaining to the era she lived in.
