  • Graces solo at the end completely blows me away

  • There's one simple reason why all the Bark/Long John Silver haters are wrong: Papa John Creach

  • When Kanter goes into the section at :53 you see why he is such a good song writer.

  • @Raelspark it's Kantner....nuff said lol

  • Yes, Grace's backing vocals are transcendent here and Jorma's solo is mindblowing...

  • Actually, Paul was not a bad guitarist. One might think of him as just a rhythm guitarist but he understood coordination. He was in fact a great writer of music, even though I was one to believe he went too far into his world for me. If the Airplane never had Jorma and Jack I don't believe they would have been as great, but that is not a diss on Paul, after all, it was Paul that introduced Marty to Jorma.

  • The way Grace is doing the backing vocals is a touch of genius.

This song has everything but yet it remained so unknown...

  • If you laugh real hard, you win the game -- hands down..."

  • Wish I still had that box!!!

  • Everyone cans this album and Bark as well. In my opinion they were better than Volunteers or Crown of Creation. Paul and Grace sound absolutely amazing and Jorma and Jack are perfect.

These are musicians that had something to say. back then the world had Grace Slick these days we are stuck with shite from taylor and katy. Its so unfair!

  • In the day, I just thought this an intellectual effort. Since then I have found that there is a god and our creator is bad. Oh well.

  • It's all about the melody-- and this is a superior piece of music. Of course Grace can't be equaled-- I love her to death.

  • This album deserved negative reviews, it was not aimed at people who could not think, this marked the break with the airplane from the idiots.

  • I just LOOOVe this song, its so 70s, like that Jackson Browne songs, particularly Late4theSky, I luv this shit!

  • This album is underrated. Like Bark, it sounds like it was mostly recorded live-in-the-studio. I daresay that JA concerned itself more with ALBUMS than with singles after the last RCA record (Volunteers). The sound on both Bark and LJS is amazing. The SONGS on LJS, including this one, are far better.

  • this is one of my favorite JA songs

  • Rather than getting pigeonholed as Deadheads, some very close friends of mine & I considered our(s)elves Airheads, all because of our preference for Paul Kantner's & Grace Slick's & Company's outreal music. Despite critical backlash, this is one of their best efforts, imho. Thank you for posting this, Mr Jukebox, thank you ~ (•8-D}

  • Hail, the Jefferson Airplane. "in the days of olden' times"

    A band with brains.

  • @laoban1954 Indeed. You are right. And most unfortunately, bands with brains are in VERY supply these days. This planet is in desperate need of the cultural backup for another 1968, hopefully without riots and murder.

  • Goddamn I love Grace Slick's voice!

  • You don't have to let your body die. wtf

  • Despite the negative reviews this album got, I thought Jorma's playing was more powerful here than on some of the classic lineup stuff.

  • i agree, some good stuff on this album.

  • WE ARE ALL CREATURES OF FAME LIGHTNESS AND LIBERTY

One of the great majestic and grand choruses that Kantner was very good at.

His undying faith and love of humanity and what we all are and could be never ceases to amaze me.

  • great song

  • Was Marty still a contributing member of the band at this time? Why didn't he sing this song rather than Kantner? I would prefer his vocals.

  • Marty was gone for two years at this point.

  • Marty left after Volunteers and would not return until the Dragon Fly tour in 1974.

Both Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship did better when Marty was in the band than when he wasn't. That says something about his charisma and star power.

The band Starship had hits in the mid and late 80's, but that was an outfit trying to be a boy band.

  • This is absolute and pure greateness.

Especially the last minute is magic...

    A psychedelic music trip.

    WOW!!!

  • My f***in' mind is blown

  • una de las mejores trabajos de los aviadores, this album is maravilloso.. letras con muy buena onda.. ALL OF YOU COME AWAY.. yes tha't right,, We're creatures of flames, lightness & liberty!!!

  • A beautiful and very forgotten Jefferson Airplane song

  • Meravigliosa ballata kantneriana. Una delle canzoni più belle degli Airplane.

  • sono d'accordo con lei :)

  • On the album, this song is followed by Eat Starch Mom. Back to back, it makes the most devastating sound and philosophical experience I've heard.

  • this is what was missing from their reunion album - just six people playing together in a room and creating something

  • Greatest song ever made? Absolutely. JA ensemble playing at peak level.

    JB

  • I guess below the Cd is what weed looked like in 72ish....haha yeh JAP was smoking blunts way before anyone else.

  • I once called this the greatest song ever made. It still may be.

  • Yeah, well mebbe so, but WHOtf is Alexander the Medium? And 36 yrs later is he now Alexander the Large??

  • Alexander the medium is a mick take of Alexander the Great... :)
