Actually, if you listen to the lyrics carefully, it's a joyful song....not a somber one, and ther person that went WHOOO in the middle of the song.......maybe they were just feeling the power of the Holy Spirit, and you can't fault them for that. So much for tolerance.
@barrytam20 i agree with you 100% it also adds a kind of jam band feel to the song. Really like as i think sam is not credited enough with his musicianship and overall simplicity and catchiness to his chords and melodies
It's cool but a little fast... It seems like it's lost it's impact a little bit, even at what I thought was the most powerful point about half way thru. It seems a little more commercialized, but I appreciate it nonetheless.
yeah, that's his primary acoustic for live performances, from what I've seen. But he's also used many manufacturers of electrics(Used a gubson SG on Letterman).
The end gives me chills everytime, this live version takes a song on the album that is so moving and changes the whole feeling behind it. Iron and Wine, Bon Iver, and Ray Lamontage give me hope for music. Peace be the Journey friends.
I'd love him to perform a studio album full of early songs played at quicker tempo, and with a full band, as he did with this. I love mellow Iron and Wine, but this version is so much better than the original.
I'm sure i could say today it can't get any better than this... but then again, as they have managed in the past, they improved even more so; so i can't be so certain. I'm looking forward to continue watching how they continue to find ways to make great sound! This is a great band!! ^_^
I don't understand how they're not all in complete awe. What an amazing performance.

The song is fantastic but I wish that dumbass in the audience kept her damn mouth shut.
Nobody needs to hear you go "WHOOOO!" in the middle of a somber, Iron & Wine song.

Ooooh I like the harmonies in this version but I prefer the song at a slower pace.

Heh, Iron & Wine 2008 covers Iron & Wine 2002.
Great song and great performance! Utterly unexpected though.
