What should people do to prepare? I live in a major city and don't really know what to do. I know canned food has a shelf life for 2-3 years. But I'm not sure how to go about trying to prepare for hard times.

@LivingMindfully1975 get yourself a bunch of 50 pound or white rice oats or beans, they will last a very long time and are reletively cheap compared to mre's and other storables. get yourself some reliable weapons and train with them as much as possible to protect what little you will have. plenty of ammo and mags as well. i would recoment atleast 1 good .22lr, an ar15 (5.56 or .223) go with 5.56 so you can shoot either .223 or 5.56 out of it and maybe something in .308

@rcroach23 i ment 50 pound bags of rice and the other stuff. im typing in a dark room so forgive me. with the ar15 if you get a .223 you cant shoot 5.56 out of it or atleast its not a good idea but if you get a 5.56 you can shoot both no problem. try to get a good handgun or 2 as well although those are harder to get than long guns. common calibers are 9mm, .40 s&W, .45 acp, 7.62x39, 7.62x51 (.308) 5.56 or .223 and of course 12 gauge and .22lr.

This can't happen. America is a first world nation. We can just do what Bob Magabe in Zimbabwe did and put more zeros on the ends of the numerical value of the dollar. That way we can punish the rich that have huge holdings in dollars. Our military is also great and can conquer other countries and take their resources if a disaster like this happened. I don't predict stuff like the what is in the video happening for at least 50 years from now.
