Lmao shackkalashnikov is jackass. He's just mad cause he's probably one of the commuters stuck in the millions of cars out there stuck in traffic while the rest of us on our bikes wiz by for work.
Nice job not stopping at intersections. Hopefully the best case happens, and you get an expensive ticket and learn your lesson, because the worst case is you're at fault and get hit by cross traffic.
@shackkalashnikov - There where no intersections that legally required me to stop. Believe it or not, I had the right of way in each case or I luckily hit a green. Cyclists can legally ride to the right of traffic, the fact the car traffic were stopped is not my issue.
The only questionable riding I did is when I crossed over to make a left near the start. But if I show you that in real time the traffic is pretty much at a stand still.
@joanswitches A number of reasons... Primarily the video camera I was using is crap and if I go over a certain amount of time (about 25min) the batteries die and the clip I am shooting gets corrupted so I didn't want to lose that great piece. Secondly, the traffic speeds up for the next few blocks on the Lougheed HWY until you hit Coquitlam center. I didn't want to risk losing the cool footage I already had to gain some more.
@joanswitches and @ totallytempo - For many years I rode from Maple Ridge to Vancouver, and I would see the same cars again 30 km later (in the 7am morning rush). I don't know what the traffic is like now there as I now live in the city, but I guarantee it will snarl up again.
Now I commute against rush hour traffic (primarily by bike trail as I have tired of motorists deliberately brushing and bullying me) and I don't have the motivation to go back and continue shooting more scenes.
Road capacity won't solve the problem. Road capacity will always become filled up shortly after its added. We simply need to rethink transportation in the Urban areas.
well actually I'd like to retract my previous comment if I may. My new comment will be: "Port Moody built up, without adding any new capacity, road, or transit." And that, my friend is asking for the disaster that Port Moody's traffic has become. Part of this was the GVRD's fault with dropping the ball on the evergreen line. They stated it was the #1 priority, then built the cambie line. What a bunch of liars.
Look at the freedom those people in cars are enjoying! Anyway, great video. I linked to it in on my blog that I just started, bikeontheright dot blogspot dot com.
unbelievable people stil thinks that transport by cars is fast. In my opinion cars are problem of western civillization that need to be solved somehow.
Nice Catch!!! I watched it lots since I shot/edited it and I didn't see it. BTW for those looking its just after I hop up on the grass to avoid a car turning right.
LOL! Great video. Intentionally or not, it's an advertisement for the merits of velo-commuting: I don't think that one car passed the cyclist during the clip. Faster (in this case), cleaner, healthier, cheaper, and more fun; pity the motorists, stuck in their tin boxes, paying for the privilege of queueing up in traffic. When will they get with the program?
Beautiful work. It's nice to see a bike commute captured on video, especially the details like the construction, cars blocking the shoulder/path, and the long stream of red lights.
Port Moody, British Columbia Canada. About 20 km outside of down town Vancouver. It is along the road that runs parallel to St. Johns... I can't remember the name
That was superb, thanks Wonder. Nicely done.

I'm supprised at how few death threats I see.
wow.
Anyway, this is a prime example how Cyclocommuting is advantageous to driving.

This was filmed in Canada, people tend not to randomly threaten others with death :-P
Although sometimes tempers are raised.

anyways this traffic jam is totally port moodys fault, they've built up a bunch and never added any road capacity.

Superb. It's much better than the official video for the track.. and it's great how the lyrics narrate the video.

The track video was just for the sound bite, because ppl there at the time were asking for it.

I think this video should be shown to the guys at Translink who think that the Evergreen line should be shelved.
