I din't understand why people did not applause to zakir bhai at 4:02 !!.. such a poor response from people that too of Kolkata, which is known as mecca of tabla!!.. well, sincerely great work by both ustads!!
@rpb1231 the audience in kolkata is pound for pound the most knowledgeble conneoiseur audience. this practice of clapping in the middle of a concert on relas has started newly. calcuttans dont yet do that.
dude, no doubt that he is ,as you call him genius. However, we are talking about simple arithmetic here. NO calculus,no differential equation or anything like that. IF you can't count then that is sad , but for the rest of counting is not that complicated as you might think! I must remind you that we are all humans and mistake can happen.
@bay1soree2maraz3ast You don't understand. The 14 second mark leaving it in the air at that beat is deliberate. Look at part 1: Around 7:30. He stretches his time in relation to the strict tabla rhythm counting. He then proceeds at around 7:50 to very obviously "play" with the tabla player/time/rhythm. Then he starts complicating things in relation to rhythm/pace at ~8:26. Culminating in a leaving it up in the air, where part 1 ends. Here we see further development of that style
@bay1soree2maraz3ast Well that is what Bernstein told Albert Einestein while teaching piano - Albert can't you count ? Counting can be hard at times. The rest of your point is well taken.
those that think he is off, etc. he's working with time rhythm more creatively than you're used to. Pay attention to the counting of the taal if you want... you should be able to figure out what he's doing and hopefully be awed by the genius behind it rather and feel embarrassed by your accusatory rubbish
Please people look at NIshat Khan's face and tell me he doesn't make an error at least twice. The first time he makes an error is on the 4th and 5th beat of tintaal around the 14 second mark in which his taan ends abrubtly and then he scowls at Zakirji. The second time he plays the taan to fast to fit with the theka of tintaal around 36 seconds, aka "rushing" Then he stops for a bit longer and says something to Zakirji. Only two people seem to notice this.
The first time Nishat Khan looked at Zakirji he meant for him to raise the volume of tabla to fill the void left by suspended sitar, then around 36 seconds, zakir tells Nishat Khan he got that counting right, and THEN Nishat Khan checks with Zakir, somthing like: ' was that right?!?' and Zakirji nods affirmatively and encourages Nishat to move forward and go on... i think..
it's a 'little weird' that you would conclude that artists of this stature would not know where the sam is.....musically, there is no indication for what you suggest
people of calcutta cant take zakir bhai,,.. he is over their ... understanding ..sorry for .. people in calcutta... ,

@Subodas that said, his taan speed is several times a bit-off the tabla theka speed.
