  • no its not playback lol! its live what an amazing band

  • i saw Lizzy many many times live .... the Live versions of this song ,,,are even better !! Phil ..never needed a playback !!

  • The music is playback, but Phil is singing Live.

  • I love Thin Lizzy but... Playback???

  • A douche I may be kind sir but that's beside the point. During the performance of "Whiskey" the aforementioned bassist is clearly not holding a bass guitar (4:11). I rest my case. If you can hear or see a bass guitar on that track you have an overactive imagination.

  • how about at 1:27 guy clearly a bass

  • Correct but the track playing at that point is appropriately named "Are You Ready". The track in question is the second of the two. It's called "Whisky in the Jar" and as I said earlier, there IS no bass guitar on it. It starts at 3:10. You need to watch the whole vid to establish the truth of the matter dear boy.

  • yeah im an asshole sorry to bother you i suck at this game. (I bow as i walk away)

  • No, you are a good bloke. You admitted your mistake. We all make 'em. Glad you watched the whole vid though. Excellent band. Such a shame poor old Phil Lynott stopped breathing. Wonderful sort he was.OK, you can straighten up now!

  • yeah well thanks and sorry for the "douche" comment. and also they are a great band my favorite song of all time is "Cowboy Song"..

Well just for the hell of it it How about Manchester United

  • No problem. Yes, Man U are 11 ball kickers. I suppose they have fun. Not my "thing". I feel this forum should be reserved for Lizzy related comments only ....but on the subject of Manchester, Phil Lynott;s mum ran a hotel there. I stayed in it. She makes an excellent breakfast y'know! I agree, Cowboy Song is a scorcher, so is Emerald and The Rocker, and Black Rose. Aww Hell, they ALL are!

  • they look like the ramones in this video for some reason

  • only the vocals sound live. the rest is playback

  • Yep.

  • This is great. Thanks for posting a great version. It sounds live, but no one is playing bass.

  • the guy singin is playin the bass

  • "the guy singin"? Geez, he's Philip Lynott, one of the best musicians ever.

  • There IS no bass guitar on Whisky in the Jar. They decided it sounded ok without and never bothered to add one when they recorded it. When played live, Phil played rhythm guitar just like this clip. I saw them many, many times. Excellent band. Phil was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word.

  • classic.

  • My fellow brothers and sister in the Church Of Lizzy, yes this is a great clip.Lizzy will live on forever their music is timeless.Like Sir Paul and the late great John Lennon, Philo was also a genius songwriter!

  • OMFG This vid damn well ROCKS, Thanks lizzylives. Phil looks so healthy and im ready for you Phil. xxxxxxxxxxxxxBridget

  • Dig the line up from 1980. Everything from Thin Lizzy is great...LIZZY LIVES !!!

  • lizzy lives for ever for sure. i am 44 and i guess i will love them when i am 70. its the power of the music. pure class. not joking about when i am 70... seriously

  • Well, guess what -- I'm 44, too, and I feel exactly the same way! And I've indoctrinated my 9-year-old son, too. God love you, Philo.

  • Similar situation: 49 and have been indoctrinating my 15-yr-old son. Rock 'n roll will never die!

  • very cool, thanx for posting all that rare stuff.

  • another cool thing phil is playing scotts guitar, its the same red HH strat

  • actually phil is playing a red fender precision bass

  • both guitar and bass were Ibanez and Phil DOES "play" Scott's guitar on whiskey...

  • I say "play" because while the vocal is live the music is not. Nice Ibanez bass all the same, tho Scott shud have stayed with his 59 Les Paul rather than use that start like thing

  • huh? WITJ and this performance were a couple of years before Scott and Robbo even joined the band.

  • Yes, indeed Bell was a few years before Robbo and Scott. But this performance is from 1980. "Are you Ready" features the Gorham/White guitar line up while the Lynott/Bell/Downey did "Song for Jimi" as well as WITJ on this TV show.

  • ma perchè è stoppato a metà! porca la puttana!

  • man this is very rare, doesnt look like the normal line up, i don't know who was in it at 80 but it looks like scott and hard to tell, either snowy white or gary moore.

i ain't seen a live whiskey since they took a 73 one off with bell on it. seems like phil kinda forgot how the tune went ;) or hes gone.

    thanks for the vid though

  • its snowy white m8

  • And Darren Wharton on Keyboards.

  • ah thanks. wasn't sure. i really didn't listen too to much after robertson left.

  • give us more, you goddamn angel in the lizzy-heaven!

  • shoot. Eric bell appearance? Awesome.

  • u got any others like this lizzylives?

  • yeah got loads concerts, promo stuff on dvds

  • amazing
