whats your trick for not having speed wobble that entire time? And how do you make it go away once it starts? Im more of a carver on not so steep hills. but ive started alot of downhill. thanks bro!
@HybridSprinter08 Starting with proven techniques help. You want most of your weight on your front foot, anywhere from 60-80%. Personally I prefer 75% or more.
Your rear trucks should always be tighter than your front trucks at these speeds. If you cant really tell which is tighter, you should tighten the rear more until you can.
Tucking (the low and aerodynamic stance) can improve your stability.
Last of all, while doing all of this, you should be comfortable and relaxed, thats what counts most
@HybridSprinter08 Being relaxed and comfortable will prevent most speed wobbles. When speed wobbles occur, calmly lean more weight onto your front foot. Sudden movements will make things worse. You can begin carving to reduce your speed and wobbles.
Never go beyond your limits and slowly build up your top speeds, this will help prevent wobbles that you cant recover from.
As you get more comfortable with speed, you find some wobbles are normal
Im not claiming to be an expert but i hope this helps
@HITMANMONSTER my setup IN THE VIDEO is an Earthwing Supercharger board, Orangutang 70mm wheels, and Randal trucks with 42 degree plates.
Currently i run a more stable Earthwing Mystery Model with all the same parts but with better bushings (Sabers) which really made a huge improvement in stablitiy.
@MrKrankshit Average of 30, probably about 29 or 30mph by the speedlimit sign, and between 35-40 (depending on skill and how well you can tuck) on the steepest part.
@ibanezer405 hmmm, hard to say. This is the only hill where we haven't had a car or chrono gun to get an exact speed...
I'm positive the average speed is 30 or slightly higher. The fastest part (doesn't look faster in the video lol) im guessing 35-40. Id love to say 40, but more realisticly I probably hit about 36, and the faster guys closer to 38/39.
Recently I went back with a better setup. I'm Also faster and better since a whole year ago. I MUST have been hitting nearly 40.
@ibanezer405 It looks like the exact board my cousin rides. Sector 9 changes the board names every year but the shape stays the same.
Anyways, I've ridden it up to about 30 and maybe a few over 30mph. It can handle everything in this video but I wouldn't recommend going more than 35 unless you feel very comfortable with it. Its not really built for these kinds of speeds, Its mainly a cruiser. Anything lower than 30 feels perfect
@ibanezer405 Bones Reds are the best bang for your buck. 15$ You can't get better quality until you hit 50 dollar ceramic bearings. Keep them clean and please don't listen to skaters who pull off the shields off. It destroys the bearings.
Currently I ride an Earthwing Mystery Model. Its far more stable and comfortably at higher speeds than my other board. Back when we filmed this video I rode an Earthwing Supercharger which is really fun. It was a little sketchy at these speeds though.
We try not to let too many people know because some of the people living on the road had trouble with some troublesome skaters. If you would like to know you can PM me.
such a sick run. ive been longboarding for about 3 years, can you recommend a good board/bearings for downhill? i'm looking for one that can handle this kind of speed without getting unstable.
@pdubs926 thats really awesome man. Id love to get a gps but since I'm beginning to do some more technical stuff at higher speeds my highest priority this summer is probably some leathers.
good boards would be rayne hellcat or demonseed. The landyachtz evo, dh or drop speed. among other boards but these are you quality longboards by trusted companies. For trucks i would reccomend a pair of bear 1080's. paris 180's or some randal dh's. now if you do have the money the trucks for downhill do get better. such as the bear smokey, kahlanis and the jim z's. wheels depends on the terrain really. and you cant go wrong with a pair of oragantang wheels or retro wheels.
no not really, its a bit far from where i live and its tough to get all the guys together to do it. it just isnt as fun unless youve got a bunch of people. that was about our peak of longboarding, since then we've been longboarding less =/
Earthwing Superchargers have 5 plies of Baltic Birch which is pretty standard wood for longboards (other than maple). Pretty cool because its pretty light weight compared to most boards. Its strength comes from the 2 layers of S fiberglass beneath it and a single layer of S fiberglass across the top. It still flexes but has just the right amount of stiffness to handle some decent speed. I highly suggest a stiffer DH board for 35+mph. When you hit 30s you really begin pushing this boards limits.
oh thats mine, its an Earthwing Supercharger. 44 inches long, i dont really recommend taking a Supercharger at these speeds, it was getting unstable because of its flex.
though, if you keep it under 30 mph its a great board. its probably one of the very best "all-arounders."
not loose at all. I had to crank mine pretty tight to handle this, (then again i ride a flexxy Earthwing). Im sure the guys riding actual downhill setups could run looser setups but it would still have to be somewhat tight. theres a couple spots where it gets pretty fast.
Constant cruising at about 30 mph and a top speed between 35 - 40mph on the steepest part. its kinda hard to tell but the steepest part is at 60 seconds.
we dont know EXACTLY but from other runs, radar gun, follow cars, that the average speed is a little over 30mph. On a straight were it gets steeper ( :58 to 1:08 ) we can hit between 35 and 40.
we switch off as camera man so yeah, one of us has a hellcat, the guy that usually does the camera work rides a sector 9 uluwatu. i dont think i got any footage in this video but i ride an Earthwing supercharger with otangs.
dont tell people where this is unless ur sure they're gunna wear a helmet and be respectful. cause we are only one more bad experience with the neighbors or the law away from getting "no skateboarding" signs posted every 5 feet on this road.
