Some Asian female elephants also have prominent tusks, though fewer than their African female counsins; but it is also true that some African female elephants do not have prominant tusks. But virtually all elephants have tusks. Generally speaking, the prominance of tusks, like other major features of an animal, is due to inheritance. Some female Asian elephants can & do sport long tusks, if both of their parents & grand parents before them sported big and/or prominant tusks.

Beautiful scenes, especially the footage with the bull elephants. A set of small corrections on the two branches of elephants: While it is true that on average the Asian elephants are smaller than their African cousins (some bull Asian elephants can get up there with some of the bigger African bulls, too; but rare), it is not true that only the males of Asian elephants have tusks, and that all female African elephants also have tusks.

Love the narration... especially the part about goinbg deeper into the dark Africa and expecting to see Marlin Perkins emerge at any moment... some very nice footage of Ugandan wildlife... thanks for sharing!
