Math and police work. So this guy and his team play with stats and tell cops where to go? I get it now. This guy compiles statistics using old data and with intel from officers, they decide where the next crime will happen. What if it deesn't happen? How often will they keep sending cops to places where they think crime will happen if nothing goes down? I thought detectives did this kind of stuff all the time. Crime patterns right? Isn't that the same thing minus the math part?
"Predictive analytics" and "proactive policing" are nothing new.
Our military has used such technologies and programs for years now.
As they discovered, nothing beats hands-on intelligence gathering and gut instinct.
Armchair policing is no substitution for the human element.
That said, I welcome any and all tools that will help our police do their job better.
My concern is we use them wisely and ethically.
