This was standard LFB turnout fire-gear. The woolen tunic and the waterproof leggings were better than nothing, but far from ideal. This was about the time that the brigade began changing its gear to nomex trousers and coat, cromwell-style helmets etc. I only ever wore this gear in training, and it was heavy and uncomfy!

Did that type of fire gear actually help protect in a fire? Or is that more of a formal ware rather than turnout gear?
