he played bits of the piano in everything he did, when he got up from bed, ate his breakfast, swim, his bath, jeez did he also played a few chimes while doing cough cough lol
damn this man surpassed the riches that stars live today, Liberace was the original bling bling, his house is like a castle, never seen a house that fancy before lol
@kretincooper Wat the hell? I know all about gay piano players I'm a huge fan of Elton John. Idk what I said but this channel has a few users so it might not of been me.
I didn't know the man until LITERALLY 20 minutes ago when I read on him on Wikipedia. Already, I love this man!!! I love his style. He betta work lol (Rupaul's voice speaking). The house, the lavish clothes and jewelry. I'm not even a materialistic person, but after seeing him, I now don't mind it for some odd reason. Where has this man been all my life. I love this dude!!!
@cfidellmt Absolutely agree. I don't think the English language has a word to define exactly what Liberace was. You get the occasional hater and jealous peon, but few really appreciate his work--his art.
@steffazia He was called Mr. Showmanship by many. A pianist and showman, very popular in Vegas in his later career but also had a tv show in the 50s. He died in the mid-80s, I believe.
Wow. What an intro! When I was a college student I went to Vegas with some friends. They decided to gamble and I went alone to the Liberace museum and I am so glad I did. My Father told me about him and Liberace is overall an entertainment benchmark that perhaps no one can match. Even today he could say: Take that, Lady Gaga, is an entrance in an egg the best you can do?". I also like Lady Gaga, but no one is Liberace.
I always appreciated the understated elegance. A simple, down to earth performance where the craft is not marred by a flamboyant style - sort of like Lady Gaga.:-)
I remember when this concert played on Showtime (might have been HBO) a loooong time ago. I'd love to see it for sale somewhere. Too bad Scott Thorson (the driver of the Rolls Royce in the video) ended up stabbing Liberace in the back by outing, and suing him. It as a horrible "final act" for a wonderful man and his career.
That's interesting- and kind of impressive that you know about him. I just looked him up on Wikipedia and it would seem he has led quite a life since Liberace. Apparently he has a common law wife which I find surprising. Someone should do an interview with him.
@wolliollie - He wasn't straight, and the guy disguised as the chaffeur is really has live in lover. They had been together for years. They both lived a few houses down from me in Palm Springs, and could be seen in the shopping center across the road from his house.
My dad tells me about his parents seeing this man, tells of story's of Liberace performance's and how grand they were, now by seeing this video i so can understand , he was great!
Before MJ had Neverland, the white glove and bubbles there was Liberace. Before P Diddy, Lil Wayne got the BLING BLING, Liberace already had more BLING than even they will ever see.
YOUR GAY GOD! Seriously Gays should just recognize him as their lord and savior and create a gay religion around him and cannot get married unless it is in a Liberace Church.
If you recall from the press so many years, Scott Thorsen was his partner. I believe he tried to sue Liberace's estate after he passed. I liked the way he interacted with his audience.
It is a shame a Legacy and his Museum has closed due to hard times, lets hope when he was alive he lived everything to the Full.
That young kid who drove his car on stage pretty much stole his life away in his retirement yrs, and I don't think he had AIDS either, Nobody knew shit back then, and his driver is HIV neg. A British lad's comments
He had some real talent, that's undeniable. Very talented and over the top. The ladies just loved him, wishing they could date him after the show. Well, that wasn't going to happen. But, what a show!!
I was doing good watching this, until I imagined all those little dead virgin foxes!
Bling and pizzazz for sure, he was really something. Legendary.
Want Glam and excitement nowadays and an excellent voice? Adam Lambert is your entertainer! Listen to 'Soaked' first, then go for the video for 'If I had you' .... you won't be disappointed.
@dirtpipedan reverse psychology tells me the "Yep, I'm happy" to be in reality a "NO, I'm not happy" The immediate question " Are you?" also tells me a defensive dude who immediately needs to be in control, all insecure about his "happinness" and bam !! little ironical.
So you did not like my acting. About chasing my dream, don't worry.
@phmike69 thank you, well... as a middle-class men you can enjoy a decent life, but hey !! those kind of human destinies like to be sooooooooo rich LIBERACE was, are rare, rare, rare !!
Majority of humans will never know the "thrill" to be Donald Trump, Bill Gates, Liberace... etc.
Who cares about his "sexual orientation" the man was undeniable entertainment - years before "bling". When Liberace showcased his flamboyance it was classy and beautiful not overboard and obnoxious like todays "celebrities".
Are you serious? Even if there was a quantifiable way of ascertaining "the best", Liberace would never have anywhere near a serious claim, indeed he never would have made such an assertion. He had genuine technical proficiency (as did Dudley Moore, for example) but was primarily a showman who never developed from his early radio days, never moved on stylistically - just upped the flashy mannerisms and cheesy muzak sound.
@krakenwave I found it odd that he never veered out side of the usual late romantic styles of Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, and Tchaikovsky. Lots of Beethoven, lots of Mozart. He never considered the impressionists like Debussy and Ravel. He never did any works for piano by Stravinsky or Prokoviev. Did he ever perform the works of modernists like Bartok or Aaron Copeland? Am I the only one bewildered by the fact that he never approached any of the early 20th century composers?
Excuse me, mavphanton. Did you mean to call me a "liar" or a "lier".??? Make up your mind. Then go grab a dictionary before you post . I am not a liar OR a lier.
Personalmente creo que si era no era gay no es realmente importante, tampoco si fue extravagante, rococó, provocativo o kitsch. Fue su vida, su elección.

I absolutely LOVE this video. I hope they make a movie of his life. There is one in the making directed by Steven Soderberg starring Michael Douglas as Liberace and Matt Damon as Scott Thorsen.
