Bono's best quote in my opinion is "Religion is what happend when God left the room" I agree whole heartedly. Religion is an absolute farce and is the cause of so much conflict, hate, discrimination, intolerance and biggotry in this world. Spirituality and faith is a competely different thing. I wouldn't say I'm a Christian neccesarily but I know for a fact I lead a much more Christian lifestyle than many who claim to be one. I enjoy listening to open minded people like Bono on this topic.
May I ask why Bono's lyrics to Sometimes You can't Make it on Your Own were so blatantly taken out of context? Those are not Bono's thoughts on christianity, those lyrics are specifically written about his relationship with his dad. I enjoyed the video and enjoyed reading Bono's quotes but blatantly taking lyrics and using them in a way that was not intended is not cool. Stuff like that bugs me.
Bono is great - He expresses my take on life precisely. And I, too, have absolutely nothing to do with 'religion', just as Jesus refused to align himself with the Pharisees. It's all about Jesus and responding to his words ... "when you do it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you are doing it to me".
Wow! That was awesome. I have no idea where you got all those quotes but they were phenominal and really uplifting. THank you for compiling them and putting them to music. I was blessed!
I think coming from Ireland and growing up in the 80s during the Northern Ireland troubles probably contributed to him being anti-religion. His father was a Catholic and his mother a Protestant. Because he is not pro religion does not mean he is not a committed Christian.
@bhoyjack ok cos u2 was already up and running and he was in his 20's in he 80's, filling out stadiums
he already wrote 'bloody sunday' by '83, so if any influence was to be had on him, it would already have made it's mark on him in the 70's, even though i appreciate that the bad shit was continuing in the 80's.
@natmanprime I take your point though was Bloody Sunday not more of a general anti-war song rather than about N.Ireland ?. The anti-U2 Rangers brigade did try to brand it a rebel song which was to be expected i suppose..
@natmanprime Im well aware of Bloody Sunday mate being a Celtic fan from Glasgow... I just dont think Bono was pro-Republican and hated the whole thing to do with the Troubles.
@natmanprime Fair point my friend. I just thought you meant he wrote Bloody Sunday as a pro-Republican song - I obvoiusly misunderstood you. I think and im sure you'll agree that being a Protestant from Dublin he represented one of the people who wanted peace between Orange and Green...
@bhoyjack I think all that politics stuff is shit.
He was born into a protestant life maybe (if you say so, i dunno), but i'm sure he rejects both and is just trying to be a true christian without any intermediaries.
Proddy OR Catholic
although he seems to act catholic with his pope visits etc...
I am a Christian and not a big fan of U2 musically, but he made me see some things inside myself that were not easy to look upon and admit to myself. I don't care that he asks for money. I don't care that he's not the same kind of believer of Jesus Christ that I am. I pray in tongues, he may not. I raise my hands, he may not, I jump and shout, he may not, but we all as Christians have our part in the Body of Christ. This is Bono's part. I support it. I love him for it!
I just have 1 objection: when I listened to him in the 80ies in the USSR he didn't help me 1 bit to get nearer to Jesus. And that's all that matters. According to him the essence of life is being well fed and well. Well, thousands upon thousands comit suicide every year although very well fed and well. The meaning of life is not in the stomach & health. Yes, all this is important & I support the poor & the needy myself. But the meaning of life is Jesus & His sacrifice. Face the truth.
Bono talks a lot about Christ, and Christians, but I've never heard him say that he worships Jesus or is a Christian. He only ever says what I should do because I'm a Christian, specifically give his organization cash, after declaring that his god isn't short on cash. So I would like to hear Bono declare once and for all who his god is, rather than manipulate me because of who my God is.
"Let's stop throwing stones at people who have made mistakes in their life, and let's start throwing medicines and food at those who need it the most."
Social justice is NOT in The Bible. Jesus tells you not to steal and to force others to "give" is stealing. God Himself does not force anyone to do anything.
Social justice is based on the concepts of human rights and equality and involves a greater degree of economic egalitarianism through progressive taxation, income redistribution, or even property redistribution. <----- This is socialism.
Ok I love Bono, but he is wrong. Jesus Christ didn't teach social justice. He taught to help one another and to help one another to be able to stand on their own two feet. To be independent and free, not rely on another. Not to take from one who has forcibly to give to the less fortunate, that would be stealing.
@DizziNY read Isaiah 58...If Gods people will not help the poor he will find a way.If you go by this logic then we should not allow the rich to make billions of dollers off of usuary. You simply do not want to help the poor because your heart is evil.Watch some youtube videos on "Distributivism',this is what the bible teaches about economics.check it out.Thank you!!
@777bal Excuse me? Who r u to say I don't want to help poor people? You have NO clue what I do. The best way to help people ids to teach them to grow the corn instead of making them dependent on you for their substience. I want people to be self sufficient, free, and independent.
But I STILL haven't found what I'm looking for? Give me a break. And some of you think this guy is a follower of Jesus Christ? How can one claim to be forgiven of sin, filled with the Holy Spirit, promised eternal life, and then write a song that says he still hasn't found what he is looking for?
@yawnhockel It could just as easily mean that he hasn't received the full inheritance of the Kingdom of God - just as the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. (cont)
@yawnhockel (2nd post) "...But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you." This is Php 3:12-15, and in Romans 8, Paul writes similarly: (cont again)
@yawnhockel (3rd post) "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." Romans 8:22-25
@yawnhockel Even though Christ lives in him and he is filled with His presence, he is unfortunately, still human while he's on this earth and is not fully in the presence of The Lord where even the slightest of slopes doesn't compare but still causes minor fallibility. Honestly..I can relate to his yearning.
@yawnhockel Ummm... maybe because not every single song Bono writes is specifically and exclusively about Jesus Christ. honestly use your common sense and stop reading into every little thing.
It has been said that the presence of the Holy Spirit can be felt at a U2 Concert, I don't know, I have never been. I have heard that U2 concerts can be compared to a Praise & Worship experience, I don't know....never been. But after watching this video I am proud to call Bono my Brother in Christ.....on a different note....soon i will post some new pics of myself....weight is melting off....my Life is on Fire!!!!
@Tweetygirl1026 They are definitely in tune with God when they perform. They're not always singing about Jesus, but there is something you just can't describe in they're music, like you're taken into the third Heaven.
We are ALL hypocrites. Everyone. The Bible says, "ALL have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God". Bono too. The truly core doctrine of Christianity is that we ALL depend on the gracious forgiveness provided to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus - "God made flesh." We ALL need that Grace. In fact it is impossible to NOT be a hypocrite. I wake-up everyday with the intent to BE love as God intends, but I inevitably screw up. Bono would say, look at Jesus not me. I say the same.
Okay, I really don't know about this video. Sure Bono has claimed from time to time to believe in the Bible and Christ but he has also said some pretty major things that are in complete opposition of that as well as done some pretty bad things too. If you want a the other side of the story, you might want to watch the series They Sold Their Souls For Rock N Roll. Also his lyrics can be Blasphemous. Listen carefully to the song Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, I think that's the name.
@myoldshorts The song "The First Time" is really sad. Listen to the lyrics. My Father is a rich man, he wears a rich man's cloak, gave me the keys to his Kingdom coming, gave me a cup of gold, he says I have many mansions, and their are many rooms to see, but I LEFT BY THE BACK DOOR AND I THREW AWAY THE KEY.
An-men' Many are called but few are chosen. I judge no man that I be not judged by any man... but all who does the will if the Father is my bother. Hope to see him after the 2nd ressurection - U2!
the only thing i can say about the video is that Bono himself said that the song "Sometimes You Can't Make It On You Own" is about his father and his relationship was his father- it's not about God or his faith, but his strained relationship with his dad.
"15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill. 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. 17The former preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can stir up trouble for me while I am in chains.[c] 18But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice" (Phil. 1).
The church is full of people like you.....Sinners of the Spirit....picking on YOUR perceptions of those sinning of the Flesh....Jesus had "White hot words" for people like you
I wished that Bono used the 360Tour more for the Evangelium, I think it is too commercial. But good to know that U2 is a christian band! And I´m glad to see them in Hannover again.
God isn't obligied to help anyone he created the world and its his to destroy, im just gratefull he is patient with us. Deep down we all know the answer. live together in peace accept and embrace our different cultures and belifes, if share our resources and we could achive anything. there are people manipulating the world from the shadows who use things like religon, finance power to mis lead and control the world i think there are even scarer people in darker shadows controling them
Total incorruptibility and a unwavering selflessness humanity that goes beyond human instinct for self preservation apart from Darwin, he was just very clever and had good ideas.
Total incorruptibility and a unwavering selflessness humanity that goes beyond human instinct for self preservation apart from Darwin, he was just very clever and had good ideas.
@bobbyed232 Its impossible to believe in the divine sent Jesus of the Bible and Darwin. They are on opposite ends of the Spectrum between good and evil, darkness and Light.
God (in my opinion) is the only person who can say what is and what isn't possible. i belive god designed us to evolve i think its clear in nature. but again i maybe wrong
The words of the bible, and the miracles of jesus are not a deal breaker for my faith parables are written so we understand good human behaviour. the fish and loaves are not important its the message
We are all right, we are all different pieces of the same puzzle.
But I maybe wrong, I am just a child, i am just a Christian looking at a sun rise being amazed at the rainbow and wondering why other children fight over where the colours have come from and which colour is most important.
Muslim, hindu, christian, jew these and others are different but no less true
A long time ago the earth was one continent it split and over time we all evolved and developed different ideas, religions, and languages and different ideas of who god is.
we've all lied or stolen something at least once in our lives. Thats because of sin. Thats what Jesus saves us from, from his blood sacrifice on the cross. When the sinless man of Christ, God manifest into flesh, died on the cross, he was resurrected by God, showing his victory over death. We too can have this victory over death and sin, being blameless and pure in front of God, being washed in the blood of Christ. All we have to do is accept his gift of salvation by Christ. Call upon God.
By its very definition truth is exclusive. God is knocking on everyone's door. Most won't open it because (1) they love darkness (2) they know he demands their devotion and they are only interested in themselves and (3) they are afraid to change. Every person will one day bow before Jesus - either now or in judgment. Thats a very unpleasant truth to those who want to ridicule Christianity or the church so they don't have to answer the door.
There's enough of an argument here for me to get involved and make myself look like an idiot. I'm just going to say that this is a very well done video and I think it clearly displays Bono's faith in a plain easily understandable way.
I wonder that too. Who the fuck has it right? Out of all the religions only one can be right, I guess the rest go to hell? Or fuck it there isnt even a hell. Everyone just rots in the ground with everything else. Take a dog that gets hit by a car for instance. Everyone knows its dead and rots in the ground. Why do they think themselves any different? Don't you see youre brainwashed by the people around you? You must realize if you people were born in the Middle East, you'd be believing in Allah.
Fuck off! I didn't know that zooperson! Are you fucking serious?! I thought Allah was a fire breathing dragon! Wow! Thank you! Yes dumbass, I knew that they are the same god...I was just trying to make a point that every single person's believes are based on what other believe around them. Like I said, you are all brainwashed by other retards like yourself.
In my opinion i believe to the up most that Bono is a christian, idk if that is the topic here but it most google searches its wether he is or not, i say he is cuz when i went to his conert he and the whole stadium sang amazing grace, not many bands do that.
JESUS THE TRUTH IS MARCHING ON~He Is a True Love-Rebel For The Lord JESUS CHRIST-
We Do Now Like Lenny Kravitz Said :
"We Follow More and more The Only Real Rock-Love-Rebel Jesus Christ" HALLELUJAH KING JESUS-Sorry But JESUS Loves You All With Eternal Love-Jesus Has Proven It Through His Eternal LOVE-CROSS-So jump on U 2-The Eternal-Love-Grace-Eagle-StormWind-CROSS-SpaceRocket-Ship-JESUS-Hallelujah Father-JESUS
here's the thing; all other religions are all about what you need to do make yourself right with God, to make yourself good enough. Christianity is the only one that says you can't be good enough, you fall short. That's where Jesus comes in. He doesn't require anything other than to believe in Him. In this way the Father identifies you with his Son, without sin. The cross is God reaching down to us rather than the other way around.
Christianity has a confusing story, christians say that jesus is gods son and mary is his mother, what about joseph? is mary and god married or is mary and joseph?OR IS MARY 2 TIMING XD!
You are the one that is confused, Jesus was immaculately concieved. God is not a man that he needs to marry a woman to bring his Son into the world. Mary did wed Joseph after The Messiah's birth, you are thinking with a man's mind, not the mind of God. Throw out your understanding, humble yourself know you are not God and read his Holy scriptures to find the truth. It is his Love letter to those who will be saved from this confused and perverse generation
For decades I tried to figure out which was the "right" religion. Then it occurred to me that a God mighty enough to create this universe wouldn't endow just one faith with access to Him. He would instead create a multitude of faiths leading souls in His direction. If "Jesus, Jew and Muhammed" AREN'T all true, then God is just playing a shell game with us with religious faith. I don't think He is doing that. Faith isn't about your church. It's about God.
@riderpoet I am the way, the truth and the life. No man shall come to the father but through me. Jesus' words not mine. One way to God not many different ways.
Jesus was pretty incredible, but I'm thinking maybe He didn't have all the information. After, he was the Son, not the Father. There were times when He asked God questions in the Bible, right? Doesn't that mean He didn't know everything? Hey, pardon me, I'm just thinking over here, instead of blindly drinking the coolaid... Maybe Christ's "way," Muhammed's "way" and Moses' "way" are all just the same way?
And the Koran says, "There is only one God, Allah, and Muhammed is His prophet." So, according to that book, I'm probably going to hell if I don't accept Muhammed and Allah. And according to YOUR book, I'm probably going to hell if I don't accept Jesus and His Dad. So what's the deal? How do you know which is right? God doesn't strike me as the type to play a shell game with us with religions as in, "step right up and pick a faith. Pick right and be saved, pick wrong and burn."
So instead, it follows that ALL the major faiths must be at least partially right, or God is playing a cruel con game with the people of His world. Which is exactly what Bono was trying to say. I'll say it again, God is mighty enough to create many, many paths to Him. I'm sure Jesus was and is one of those paths, but I have a feeling that Muhammed, Buddha and some others are also paths to God. And thinking like that doesn't threaten God. It only threatens the political power of religions.
But Jesus is the only one who lived a perfect life with no sin. He also was the only one to be resurected. Over 500 people saw him alive after his death. His body was never found.
I'm not denying anything about Jesus except that maybe He wasn't aware that God was offering salvation to people through a number of roads, and not just through Him. We're talking about a God that is powerful enough and smart enough to sneeze the entire universe into existence on a whim. Do you really think that He would limit the roads to Him to one man in Bethlehem, 2000 years ago? I have felt the spirit of God in synagogues and in mosques. Is God just faking it there?
It is Gods plan to reconcile all humanity to Himself through His only begotten son JESUS. He is the only one who paid the cost of sin( death on the cross) He rose on the third day! so that we can have peace and access to God. all others who are claiming greatness and wisdom are dead, but this Jesus is ALIVE!
and what is they (in Africa or china) tell you that they believe that god is alive? how can you tell them back that he is not when they are the one in pain but still believe?
Oh, one of those kinds, huh! Well, let me put in a way you can understand it. What does a walk in Africa and China, has to do with whether God, lives or not?
What happens in Africa and China does nothing to disprove God's existence, but it only proves that if he is real then he does nothing for the people of Earth. I have only mentioned Africa and China to challenge believers on why they think their God is so powerful and loving. Clearly if he is loving, then he is not powerful, otherwise a thousand kids wouldn't be starving right now; or, if he is powerful, then he is not loving because he lets those kids suffer when he could easily prevent it.
If people would stop exploiting africa of it's natural resources, the people would have the means to be self sufficient. The problem is not with God. Man brought about all the problems of this world long ago, before you and I were even close to being born. God will continue to allow these things to happen until the appointed time. We are only dealing with the repercussions and the reaping of man's crimes against God.
Heh. It has already been 2000 years. I am curious as to when humanity will finally break and lose faith. The year 9000? 5000? When will you finally realize you're listening to a book written by wackjobs long ago? If no one else believed, you wouldn't either. You're just on a bandwagon of idiots where the blind lead the blinder. It is a shame so many can be so weak minded and refuse to see how the world really is. You would rather believe in talking burning bushes than face reality. Pathetic.
How would I be able to tell you that? I cannot see into the future. If by "ultimate outcome" you mean the end of man then I suppose we may blow each other up with nukes or we may encounter an all new incurable epidemic. I know no more than you or the best scientist in the world does. And what makes you think it is in the near future? You've been watching too many movies. Besides, it is said in the Bible that the end will come when we least expect it. Clearly, you expect it...so...guess again?
I'm surprised that someone as clever as yourself, can't tell me this simple truth. Of course I expect it! The bible warns me to expect it and to also prepare for it, along with every man and woman. So, if we're gonna nuke each other, as you say, then you'd have to admit that there is good and evil in this world? And if good and evil exist, then what or who is the cause of it?
Yes as I have been saying this whole time there is good and evil in the world. And the answer is simple: Humans cause it. Evil and good are simply natural in the minds of humans...even children lie. It is our nature. And just because I am intelligent doesn't give me the ability to see into the future. It is not a simple truth at all. One day the world will end. That has never been a secret. But HOW it will end will always be unknown until it happens.
So, YOU say you're intelligent! It has nothing to do with assumed intelligence. Einstein, was supposed to be one of the most intelligent men who've ever lived. For all his intelligence, if he died not believing and trusting in JESUS, eistein was the biggest fool who ever lived.
27[No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. 28And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are,
You call Einstein a fool for not believing in a religion that includes talking inanimate objects and animals. Not only that, but your religion also does not answer all of your questions, but instead it tells you to simply don't think of or ask these sorts of questions. In my mind, the very definition of a fool is one who believes and puts their trust into something they do not fully understand. And spare me the Bible quotes. You do not seem to understand that they mean nothing to atheists.
Tell me, Mr. Atheist, if I'm wrong there's nothing to look forward to. But, if you're wrong the lake of fire which burns forever awaits you. How do you think you'd feel, burning in a lake of fire for all eternity, when you could have avoided this horrific end to your life?
Another shining example of a weak human being. Your previous comment just proved it to me and I find myself in disgust. You just so strongly implied that you only believe in this ghost, no matter how RIDICULOUS it seems, because in the same book that has fairy tale elements that I would expect from a children's movie (talking animals) it says you will burn forever after you die. You cower in fear so much, that you will believe in ANYTHING to avoid something another person said MAY happen to you.
On the contrary. I have complete confidence of not burning. My eternal salvation is secure. I am God's child. I shall live with HIM forever in heaven, where the streets are paved with gold. Hallelujah!
"in heaven, where the streets are paved with gold." Ha. What interest would your God have in gold? This is hilarious. This supports the fact that this was written by the people of earth. Thousands of years ago, gold symbolized great riches and wealth, which is why the imaginative creatures who wrote the book would state that.
The fact that the streets are paved with gold is supposed to emphasize the very fact that the riches on this earth are the very lowest of dirt in heaven, thus the roads are made of them. I don't think we value the dirt and asphalt the roads here are made of very highly.
And let me remind you of a little something about your God. I could donates millions of dollars to the poor and hungry, but according to the Bible I would still burn in hell because I didn't believe in him. This is an example of a TYRANT. He would not care that I helped THOUSANDS of his people sustain life, he would only care about the fact that I did not care about HIM. I find it incredible that you do not find this selfishness sickening, and you actually bow to this power hungry monster.
Your first priority is to belief in HIM, second would be to help the poor. You see, you have sinned and the only way to be forgiven of those sins, is through having faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Without faith in Jesus, your good deeds are like filthy rags. They count for nothing.
There is no evidence of God either you stupid fool! THE BIBLE IS NOT EVIDENCE. IT IS MERELY A BOOK. Just because something is written down does NOT make it true. "Without faith in Jesus, your good deeds are like filthy rags. THEY COUNT FOR NOTHING." Try telling that to a starving child after you see him finally eat. You snobby bitch. You think you can sit on your ass and do nothing for no one else, but still be better than me in God's eyes simply because you BELIEVE. You're filth of the earth.
I don't know, and neither does the world's most knowledgeable scientist! But I can tell you one thing, I will NOT accept what is written in a two thousand year old book written by normal people JUST LIKE US as proof that we were created by some sort of God. You don't understand your feeling is instinctive. In all of time people have felt that something must be made by a God, but no one knows if anyone is right. Take the Greeks for example. They had a god for practically everything.
(continued) Therefore, merely accepting what you read in a book as fact just because so many other people do is illogical. You have no mind of your own! You are only so passionate about YOUR religion because you have been surrounded by it your whole life, so when a person says otherwise it shocks you. You don't want to accept that you may be wrong, so you desperately turn to your Bible and try to believe it even though that very book describes a tyrannical God that supports genocide and slavery.
I didn't "choose" my beliefs. I could SAY I believe in God, and I could go to church like a regular Christian, but in my heart I would never truly believe. Why? Because I am lucky enough to have common sense and logic. So either way, I am doomed for this "lake of fire" that your "loving God" created because I simply CANNOT believe. Trying to believe in God would be like trying to believe in Santa again. It is simply impossible, and I am grateful for that. I would hate to be as foolish as you.
"As foolish as me?" "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God!" Your mind is blind and your senses have been dulled by satan. God has given to every man a measure of faith. So, there is no excuse for not believing. People choose to not believe. Your eternal soul is in jeopardy! The devil is laughing at you for not believing. It is one of his greatest tricks. To blind men to his exsistence and God's. May the LORD open your eyes to whats the true objective of man's exsistance.
I am afraid, my friend, that you are guilty as charged of throwing in your two cents into Pascal's Wager. You believe it better to 'believe' (or at least claim to believe) in order to avoid your river of fire. That wouldn't cut a great deal of mustard with 'God', should He/She/It exist. I'm sure that if such a true being did indeed exist he would be above condemning an honest man who couldn't bring himself to believe rather than rewarding an weak, blind fool who went with the safer bet. Amen. :)
They say when you make assumtions about things which you know nothing about, you make an ass of yourself. God's way of judging is so far removed from man's/your way of doing things. You can't speak for HIM, only the bible can. Read it sometimes.
I find it funny that someone would put so much faith in a book written by stoneage peasants who feared ecplises, plagues, illnesses as being the retribution of a jealous, venegeful God. Only a slave would wish for it to be true, would wish to be in such an unhealthy subordinate relationship with a tyrannal leader who would judge and condemn you not only for what you do but for the thoughts that remain in your head which you cannot remove. Rather creepy, a lot like yourself, I might add. lol
Oh, on the contrary, one of little knowledge. He (Jesus) doesn't condemn or judge me of anything. You are the one who shall be judge and condemned by your own words of unbelief. I wonder, what will you say when the flames of fire wash over your body in agony?
@shjtyu Typical. Your reply says everything to me, in that it is not an answer, but a deflection.
Anytime religions (Christianity or otherwise) are held up to a microscope, the ignorance and superstitions of it's members come to light. There is nothing wrong with wanting a moral lifestyle and a solid community of like minds, but in adopting that "I'm right cause the Bible tells me so" attitude, you only do yourselves harm, and alienate those around you who may have differing opinions.
As I have said twice before shjtyu, I do not care what the Bible says. Just because a person or persons wrote that in a book thousands of years ago, does not make it true. This is why I find your senses numb. And fool, you cannot control what you believe. If a person put a gun to your head telling you to believe in the invisible unicorn on top of the white house, you would try your hardest to, but you would be unable to truly believe. Or maybe you would if there was an book about it? Probably.
There isn't evidence of a unicorn, but the whole creation testifies of the exsistance of the Almighty God. There has to be a first of everything, right? So, where did the first human beings come from?
Don't be decieved. You have felt a spirit, no doubt but was it the Holy Spirit? The enemy is a deciever, A lion in sheeps clothes. Ask God for the disearnment to know the diference.
Saint/Sinner Paul does not reject Christ Jesus. Do you actually READ and THINK and FEEL and IMAGINE and BELIEVE what Jesus taught? Or...do you just adhere to the Church orthodoxy?
Funny how men today can read 1 book by 1 scientist and believe it as truth. Until a day when another scientist comes along and dispells that truth. It happens ALL the time. There are 66 books, written by many different people, over many , many years, with 365 phrophecies about the Christ which ALL came true in Jesus. God, help us walk in Your will, Grow in love for one another, and Grow in Knowledge through Your word.
bhoyjack yes it does and i'll tell you something else BONO like so many celebs are illuminati.

I think coming from Ireland and growing up in the 80s during the Northern Ireland troubles probably contributed to him being anti-religion. His father was a Catholic and his mother a Protestant. Because he is not pro religion does not mean he is not a committed Christian.

@bhoyjack lol the 70s not the 80's
i bet you're a young lad
natmanprime 10 months ago
@natmanprime I meant that the troubles were bad during the 80's and this had an influence on him (ie Eniskillen and The Omagh attrocities).
bhoyjack 10 months ago
@bhoyjack ok cos u2 was already up and running and he was in his 20's in he 80's, filling out stadiums
he already wrote 'bloody sunday' by '83, so if any influence was to be had on him, it would already have made it's mark on him in the 70's, even though i appreciate that the bad shit was continuing in the 80's.
natmanprime 10 months ago
@natmanprime I take your point though was Bloody Sunday not more of a general anti-war song rather than about N.Ireland ?. The anti-U2 Rangers brigade did try to brand it a rebel song which was to be expected i suppose..
bhoyjack 10 months ago
@bhoyjack 'bloody sunday' was a particular event
Bloody Sunday —sometimes called the Bogside Massacre —was an incident on 30 January 1972 in the Bogside area of Derry, Northern Ireland.
check wiki
it can of course be used as a general anti war song
larry's and bono's mothers died in 70's

@natmanprime Im well aware of Bloody Sunday mate being a Celtic fan from Glasgow... I just dont think Bono was pro-Republican and hated the whole thing to do with the Troubles.
bhoyjack 10 months ago
@bhoyjack course he did mate i do apologise
i don't think he was republican either (why say that??)
Bloody sunday was definitely an anti war song, i'm just saying he's rooting it in a real tragedy from the 70's thas all
i've a sneaking suspicion that we're in agreement all along...; )
natmanprime 10 months ago
@natmanprime Fair point my friend. I just thought you meant he wrote Bloody Sunday as a pro-Republican song - I obvoiusly misunderstood you. I think and im sure you'll agree that being a Protestant from Dublin he represented one of the people who wanted peace between Orange and Green...
bhoyjack 10 months ago

DizziNY 1 year ago
Ok I love Bono, but he is wrong. Jesus Christ didn't teach social justice. He taught to help one another and to help one another to be able to stand on their own two feet. To be independent and free, not rely on another. Not to take from one who has forcibly to give to the less fortunate, that would be stealing.
DizziNY 1 year ago
@DizziNY read Isaiah 58...If Gods people will not help the poor he will find a way.If you go by this logic then we should not allow the rich to make billions of dollers off of usuary. You simply do not want to help the poor because your heart is evil.Watch some youtube videos on "Distributivism',this is what the bible teaches about economics.check it out.Thank you!!

But I STILL haven't found what I'm looking for? Give me a break. And some of you think this guy is a follower of Jesus Christ? How can one claim to be forgiven of sin, filled with the Holy Spirit, promised eternal life, and then write a song that says he still hasn't found what he is looking for?
yawnhockel 1 year ago
@yawnhockel But most of their songs are like that. Bono has no idea who Jesus Christ really is. If he did he would have found what he is looking for.
JesusLovesRoger 1 year ago
@yawnhockel It could just as easily mean that he hasn't received the full inheritance of the Kingdom of God - just as the Apostle Paul said in Philippians 3: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. (cont)
guitarfan01 1 year ago
@yawnhockel (2nd post) "...But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you." This is Php 3:12-15, and in Romans 8, Paul writes similarly: (cont again)
guitarfan01 1 year ago
@yawnhockel (3rd post) "We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently." Romans 8:22-25

I say the same.
griffariff 1 year ago
Okay, I really don't know about this video. Sure Bono has claimed from time to time to believe in the Bible and Christ but he has also said some pretty major things that are in complete opposition of that as well as done some pretty bad things too. If you want a the other side of the story, you might want to watch the series They Sold Their Souls For Rock N Roll. Also his lyrics can be Blasphemous. Listen carefully to the song Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, I think that's the name.

we've all lied or stolen something at least once in our lives.

Thats a very unpleasant truth to those who want to ridicule Christianity or the church so they don't have to answer the door.

here's the thing; all other religions are all about what you need to do make yourself right with God, to make yourself good enough.

MICHAELJACKSON722 2 years ago
You are the one that is confused, Jesus was immaculately concieved. God is not a man that he needs to marry a woman to bring his Son into the world. Mary did wed Joseph after The Messiah's birth, you are thinking with a man's mind, not the mind of God. Throw out your understanding, humble yourself know you are not God and read his Holy scriptures to find the truth. It is his Love letter to those who will be saved from this confused and perverse generation
dqddqd 2 years ago
For decades I tried to figure out which was the "right" religion. Then it occurred to me that a God mighty enough to create this universe wouldn't endow just one faith with access to Him. He would instead create a multitude of faiths leading souls in His direction. If "Jesus, Jew and Muhammed" AREN'T all true, then God is just playing a shell game with us with religious faith. I don't think He is doing that. Faith isn't about your church. It's about God.
riderpoet 2 years ago
@riderpoet I am the way, the truth and the life. No man shall come to the father but through me. Jesus' words not mine. One way to God not many different ways.
schwinn199 2 years ago
Jesus was pretty incredible, but I'm thinking maybe He didn't have all the information. After, he was the Son, not the Father. There were times when He asked God questions in the Bible, right? Doesn't that mean He didn't know everything? Hey, pardon me, I'm just thinking over here, instead of blindly drinking the coolaid... Maybe Christ's "way," Muhammed's "way" and Moses' "way" are all just the same way?
riderpoet 2 years ago
@riderpoet The bible says though shall have no other Gods but me and I am the way the truth and the life.
schwinn199 2 years ago
And the Koran says, "There is only one God, Allah, and Muhammed is His prophet." So, according to that book, I'm probably going to hell if I don't accept Muhammed and Allah. And according to YOUR book, I'm probably going to hell if I don't accept Jesus and His Dad. So what's the deal? How do you know which is right? God doesn't strike me as the type to play a shell game with us with religions as in, "step right up and pick a faith. Pick right and be saved, pick wrong and burn."
riderpoet 2 years ago
So instead, it follows that ALL the major faiths must be at least partially right, or God is playing a cruel con game with the people of His world. Which is exactly what Bono was trying to say. I'll say it again, God is mighty enough to create many, many paths to Him. I'm sure Jesus was and is one of those paths, but I have a feeling that Muhammed, Buddha and some others are also paths to God. And thinking like that doesn't threaten God. It only threatens the political power of religions.
riderpoet 2 years ago
But Jesus is the only one who lived a perfect life with no sin. He also was the only one to be resurected. Over 500 people saw him alive after his death. His body was never found.
schwinn199 2 years ago
I'm not denying anything about Jesus except that maybe He wasn't aware that God was offering salvation to people through a number of roads, and not just through Him. We're talking about a God that is powerful enough and smart enough to sneeze the entire universe into existence on a whim. Do you really think that He would limit the roads to Him to one man in Bethlehem, 2000 years ago? I have felt the spirit of God in synagogues and in mosques. Is God just faking it there?
riderpoet 2 years ago
It is Gods plan to reconcile all humanity to Himself through His only begotten son JESUS. He is the only one who paid the cost of sin( death on the cross) He rose on the third day! so that we can have peace and access to God. all others who are claiming greatness and wisdom are dead, but this Jesus is ALIVE!

For the same reason I say the invisible unicorn in my backyard is not alive. Dumbass. Was that a serious question?
xS1C 1 year ago
Oh, one of those kinds, huh! Well, let me put in a way you can understand it. What does a walk in Africa and China, has to do with whether God, lives or not?
shjtyu 1 year ago
What happens in Africa and China does nothing to disprove God's existence, but it only proves that if he is real then he does nothing for the people of Earth. I have only mentioned Africa and China to challenge believers on why they think their God is so powerful and loving. Clearly if he is loving, then he is not powerful, otherwise a thousand kids wouldn't be starving right now; or, if he is powerful, then he is not loving because he lets those kids suffer when he could easily prevent it.
xS1C 1 year ago
If people would stop exploiting africa of it's natural resources, the people would have the means to be self sufficient. The problem is not with God. Man brought about all the problems of this world long ago, before you and I were even close to being born. God will continue to allow these things to happen until the appointed time. We are only dealing with the repercussions and the reaping of man's crimes against God.
shjtyu 1 year ago
Pathetic.

Clearly, you expect it...so...guess again?
xS1C 1 year ago
I'm surprised that someone as clever as yourself, can't tell me this simple truth. Of course I expect it! The bible warns me to expect it and to also prepare for it, along with every man and woman. So, if we're gonna nuke each other, as you say, then you'd have to admit that there is good and evil in this world? And if good and evil exist, then what or who is the cause of it?
shjtyu 1 year ago
Yes as I have been saying this whole time there is good and evil in the world. And the answer is simple: Humans cause it. Evil and good are simply natural in the minds of humans...even children lie. It is our nature. And just because I am intelligent doesn't give me the ability to see into the future. It is not a simple truth at all. One day the world will end. That has never been a secret. But HOW it will end will always be unknown until it happens.
xS1C 1 year ago
So, YOU say you're intelligent! It has nothing to do with assumed intelligence. Einstein, was supposed to be one of the most intelligent men who've ever lived. For all his intelligence, if he died not believing and trusting in JESUS, eistein was the biggest fool who ever lived.

27[No] for God selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is foolish to put the wise to shame, and what the world calls weak to put the strong to shame. 28And God also selected (deliberately chose) what in the world is lowborn and insignificant and branded and treated with contempt, even the things that are nothing, that He might depose and bring to nothing the things that are,
shjtyu 1 year ago
You call Einstein a fool for not believing in a religion that includes talking inanimate objects and animals. Not only that, but your religion also does not answer all of your questions, but instead it tells you to simply don't think of or ask these sorts of questions. In my mind, the very definition of a fool is one who believes and puts their trust into something they do not fully understand. And spare me the Bible quotes. You do not seem to understand that they mean nothing to atheists.
xS1C 1 year ago
Tell me, Mr. Atheist, if I'm wrong there's nothing to look forward to. But, if you're wrong the lake of fire which burns forever awaits you. How do you think you'd feel, burning in a lake of fire for all eternity, when you could have avoided this horrific end to your life?
shjtyu 1 year ago
Another shining example of a weak human being. Your previous comment just proved it to me and I find myself in disgust. You just so strongly implied that you only believe in this ghost, no matter how RIDICULOUS it seems, because in the same book that has fairy tale elements that I would expect from a children's movie (talking animals) it says you will burn forever after you die. You cower in fear so much, that you will believe in ANYTHING to avoid something another person said MAY happen to you.
xS1C 1 year ago
On the contrary. I have complete confidence of not burning. My eternal salvation is secure. I am God's child. I shall live with HIM forever in heaven, where the streets are paved with gold. Hallelujah!
shjtyu 1 year ago
"in heaven, where the streets are paved with gold." Ha. What interest would your God have in gold? This is hilarious. This supports the fact that this was written by the people of earth. Thousands of years ago, gold symbolized great riches and wealth, which is why the imaginative creatures who wrote the book would state that.
xS1C 1 year ago
The fact that the streets are paved with gold is supposed to emphasize the very fact that the riches on this earth are the very lowest of dirt in heaven, thus the roads are made of them. I don't think we value the dirt and asphalt the roads here are made of very highly.
historybuff09 1 year ago
And let me remind you of a little something about your God. I could donates millions of dollars to the poor and hungry, but according to the Bible I would still burn in hell because I didn't believe in him. This is an example of a TYRANT. He would not care that I helped THOUSANDS of his people sustain life, he would only care about the fact that I did not care about HIM. I find it incredible that you do not find this selfishness sickening, and you actually bow to this power hungry monster.
xS1C 1 year ago
Your first priority is to belief in HIM, second would be to help the poor. You see, you have sinned and the only way to be forgiven of those sins, is through having faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Without faith in Jesus, your good deeds are like filthy rags. They count for nothing.
shjtyu 1 year ago 2
There is no evidence of God either you stupid fool! THE BIBLE IS NOT EVIDENCE. IT IS MERELY A BOOK. Just because something is written down does NOT make it true. "Without faith in Jesus, your good deeds are like filthy rags. THEY COUNT FOR NOTHING." Try telling that to a starving child after you see him finally eat. You snobby bitch. You think you can sit on your ass and do nothing for no one else, but still be better than me in God's eyes simply because you BELIEVE. You're filth of the earth.
xS1C 1 year ago
Where did the first of the human race come from?!
shjtyu 1 year ago
I don't know, and neither does the world's most knowledgeable scientist! But I can tell you one thing, I will NOT accept what is written in a two thousand year old book written by normal people JUST LIKE US as proof that we were created by some sort of God. You don't understand your feeling is instinctive. In all of time people have felt that something must be made by a God, but no one knows if anyone is right. Take the Greeks for example. They had a god for practically everything.
xS1C 1 year ago
(continued) Therefore, merely accepting what you read in a book as fact just because so many other people do is illogical. You have no mind of your own! You are only so passionate about YOUR religion because you have been surrounded by it your whole life, so when a person says otherwise it shocks you. You don't want to accept that you may be wrong, so you desperately turn to your Bible and try to believe it even though that very book describes a tyrannical God that supports genocide and slavery.
xS1C 1 year ago
I didn't "choose" my beliefs. I could SAY I believe in God, and I could go to church like a regular Christian, but in my heart I would never truly believe. Why? Because I am lucky enough to have common sense and logic. So either way, I am doomed for this "lake of fire" that your "loving God" created because I simply CANNOT believe. Trying to believe in God would be like trying to believe in Santa again. It is simply impossible, and I am grateful for that. I would hate to be as foolish as you.
xS1C 1 year ago
"As foolish as me?" "The fool has said in his heart, there is no God!" Your mind is blind and your senses have been dulled by satan. God has given to every man a measure of faith. So, there is no excuse for not believing. People choose to not believe. Your eternal soul is in jeopardy! The devil is laughing at you for not believing. It is one of his greatest tricks. To blind men to his exsistence and God's. May the LORD open your eyes to whats the true objective of man's exsistance.
shjtyu 1 year ago
I am afraid, my friend, that you are guilty as charged of throwing in your two cents into Pascal's Wager. You believe it better to 'believe' (or at least claim to believe) in order to avoid your river of fire. That wouldn't cut a great deal of mustard with 'God', should He/She/It exist. I'm sure that if such a true being did indeed exist he would be above condemning an honest man who couldn't bring himself to believe rather than rewarding an weak, blind fool who went with the safer bet. Amen. :)
ianmichaelocarroll 1 year ago
They say when you make assumtions about things which you know nothing about, you make an ass of yourself. God's way of judging is so far removed from man's/your way of doing things. You can't speak for HIM, only the bible can. Read it sometimes.
shjtyu 1 year ago
I find it funny that someone would put so much faith in a book written by stoneage peasants who feared ecplises, plagues, illnesses as being the retribution of a jealous, venegeful God. Only a slave would wish for it to be true, would wish to be in such an unhealthy subordinate relationship with a tyrannal leader who would judge and condemn you not only for what you do but for the thoughts that remain in your head which you cannot remove. Rather creepy, a lot like yourself, I might add. lol
ianmichaelocarroll 1 year ago
Oh, on the contrary, one of little knowledge. He (Jesus) doesn't condemn or judge me of anything. You are the one who shall be judge and condemned by your own words of unbelief. I wonder, what will you say when the flames of fire wash over your body in agony?

How do you not know this?
shjtyu 1 year ago
@shjtyu Typical. Your reply says everything to me, in that it is not an answer, but a deflection.
Anytime religions (Christianity or otherwise) are held up to a microscope, the ignorance and superstitions of it's members come to light. There is nothing wrong with wanting a moral lifestyle and a solid community of like minds, but in adopting that "I'm right cause the Bible tells me so" attitude, you only do yourselves harm, and alienate those around you who may have differing opinions.
GITMachine 1 year ago
Don't give me that crap! What do you believe or don't believe is the origin of man?
shjtyu 1 year ago
As I have said twice before shjtyu, I do not care what the Bible says. Just because a person or persons wrote that in a book thousands of years ago, does not make it true. This is why I find your senses numb. And fool, you cannot control what you believe. If a person put a gun to your head telling you to believe in the invisible unicorn on top of the white house, you would try your hardest to, but you would be unable to truly believe. Or maybe you would if there was an book about it? Probably.
xS1C 1 year ago
There isn't evidence of a unicorn, but the whole creation testifies of the exsistance of the Almighty God. There has to be a first of everything, right? So, where did the first human beings come from?
shjtyu 1 year ago
Don't be decieved. You have felt a spirit, no doubt but was it the Holy Spirit? The enemy is a deciever, A lion in sheeps clothes. Ask God for the disearnment to know the diference.

Paul Hewson rejects Jesus Christ. That is obvious.

Saint/Sinner Paul does not reject Christ Jesus. Do you actually READ and THINK and FEEL and IMAGINE and BELIEVE what Jesus taught? Or...do you just adhere to the Church orthodoxy?
TheChoice264 2 years ago
Funny how men today can read 1 book by 1 scientist and believe it as truth. Until a day when another scientist comes along and dispells that truth. It happens ALL the time. There are 66 books, written by many different people, over many , many years, with 365 phrophecies about the Christ which ALL came true in Jesus. God, help us walk in Your will, Grow in love for one another, and Grow in Knowledge through Your word.
